History

History[]

Background[]

Long ago, a Sphinx that resided in the Valley of the Sphinx was worshipped by the local peoples who prayed to the mythical beast to provide for their daily needs. The black pyramid was constructed by the villagers in honor of the Sphinx, who then moved into the pyramid and created an infamous maze to serve as a challenge for travelers to prove themselves worthy of receiving a wish from the Sphinx. Over countless generations, however, knowledge about the Sphinx and her pyramid would mostly be lost, leaving the recent generations' understanding of the pyramid largely limited to whatever was written in ancient scrolls.

The Maze of the Sphinx (flashback)[]

After days of traveling in their quest to the Northern Ocean, Wu and Garmadon found themselves inside the Valley of the Sphinx, where they were graced by the presence of the massive pyramid in the center of the valley. From one of the locals, Sage, the brothers learned of the legend of the Sphinx and sought an entrance to be granted their wish.

After entering the pyramid's maze, the brothers braved many challenges as they traversed the deadly maze, encountering another lost explorer named Shezada, who had been trapped inside the maze for weeks. Together, the trio would make their way through the pyramid's many obstacles and adversaries, eventually fighting their way back to the Sphinx's chamber where they were granted a single wish. After granting the wish, the Sphinx opened up the way out from the pyramid, finally allowing the trio to leave, being the first in countless centuries to successfully do so.
