Garmadon mentions the Sushi Chef during an attack on Ninjago City to Lloyd. He also appears at the end of the movie talking to Garmadon when Koko, Lloyd, and Wu are huddled around a cake, supposedly celebrating Lloyd's birthday.

He shares a striking resemblance to Hattori Hanzō from Kill Bill: Volume 1. Both characters own sushi restaurants and have a connection with the movie's main antagonists.
In the movie he has a printed apron on black legs whilst his minifigure in The LEGO Ninjago Movie Series has dual molded legs to represent his apron.
