“I know how that feels. To be judged unfairly. So, um... I just wanna say that I forgive you. And... I'm sorry. When I said "I wish you weren't my father," I didn't really mean it. What I... What I should've said is I wish we didn't fight all of the time. I wish I could've spent more time with you. And that you could've seen, like, everything I've been through, but you weren't there. I wish we could get that time back, and... I need my dad. I just... I need my dad.”

Lloyd Garmadon (pronounced Luh-Lloyd by Garmadon) is the Green Ninja and leader of the Secret Ninja Force. He is the son of Lord Garmadon and Koko, and the nephew of Master Wu. He drove the Green Ninja Mech Dragon.

History

History[]

Early life[]

Lloyd was born to Lord Garmadon and Koko, sometime before the family arrived to Ninjago. When Garmadon declared his intentions of conquering the city, Koko decided she didn't want Lloyd to become an evil conqueror like his dad so she reluctantly left Garmadon and moved with Lloyd to an apartment in Ninjago to give him a normal life. She got a job at a copy center and kept her former life a secret from her son while Lord Garmadon stayed behind and carried on with his plans to conquer Ninjago. As he grew up, Lloyd was discriminated and bullied by the citizens of Ninjago for being the son of the evil Lord Garmadon and got blamed for everything his father did until his paternal uncle, Wu recruited him as part of his Secret Ninja Force, leading him to meet and befriend Kai, Nya, Jay, Cole, and Zane.

The LEGO Ninjago Movie[]

On the day of his sixteenth birthday, Lloyd is awakened by his father, who doesn't (or pretends he doesn't) know who Lloyd is. Garmadon claims that he butt-dialed him and claimed that his son is still a baby with no teeth or he is around seven years old. Lloyd corrects him and says he is sixteen, Garmadon hung up after congratulating Lloyd for finally having a full set of teeth. Koko arrives at their apartment and Lloyd gets up and does the dishes while trying to ask his mother to let him skip school for the day but Koko refuses since this are "the best years of his life" while Lloyd tries to tell her about how "judgy" people are but Koko reassures him that he just has to let people know the real him. Koko then reminds him of what to do if Garmadon attacks and wishes him a happy birthday before sending him off to school and he reluctantly obeys her.

As he waits at the bus stop, the other teenagers start texting about how much they hate him before the bus arrives. When the bus comes, Lloyd has to sit alone on one side of the bus and everyone else sits on the other side, causing the weight to nearly tip over the bus.

Once he arrives to school, everyone stops what they are doing and whisper amongst themselves about how his father always ruins everything while Lloyd passes by until Zane walks up to him and talks to him about some argument he had with his mother. Kai then walks up to Lloyd and hugs him with Zane joining in, squeezing them very tight.

Nya soon arrives on her motorcycle followed by Cole and Jay. Nya is showing off the paint job she made on her motorcycle; a portrait of The Lady Iron Dragon when a group of cheerleaders led by Chad walk up to them and start chanting their new song; "Boo Lloyd!" to Lloyd, who tried to take it well and said that they were going to be a success. Once Chad and his cohort left, Lloyd and his friends headed off to their Social Studies class.

Sometime later, word of Garmadon's latest attack on the city reached the high school. As if on cue, everyone in the class but Lloyd's friends turned to him and collectively groaned, sarcastically thanking him for his father's misdeeds. Used to this kind of behavior though, Lloyd and his friends all simultaneously asked for bathroom passes and raced for their lockers. In reality, Lloyd and the others were the Secret Ninja Force, the protectors of Ninjago City; in fact, Lloyd was also the team's fearless and respected leader. Upon arriving at the warehouse where they stored their mechs, Lloyd ordered his friends to shout out their callsigns, with Kai going first and Lloyd going last. Once all were ready, the six left the warehouse to prepare their counterattack against Garmadon's forces, with Lloyd ordering Kai, Cole, and Zane to take downtown; Jay to take the air; and for Nya to take the waterways. As for himself, he would be confronting his father as usual.

As Lloyd made his way to his father, he caught a glance of General #4 and his crabmen dangling a school bus full of his classmates precariously from the edge of the highway. Taking a detour, Lloyd fired a barrage of missiles at the crabmen, defeating them but inadvertently knocking the bus fully off the ledge in the resulting explosion. Moving quickly though, Lloyd managed to catch the bus with his mech and gently lowered it to the ground where he was met with a chorus of cheers from onlookers, briefly captivating him. Kai restored Lloyd's focus however by alerting him over the comms that Garmadon was nearing Ninjago Tower.

Seconds later, Lloyd caught up with Garmadon and his Shark Mech, ordering his father to stand down and surrender for the Secret Ninja Force had him surrounded. Garmadon refused to back down however, taunting the Green Ninja for being too slow and incapable of catching him as he hid behind a building, unaware that the tail of his mech was exposed from behind. When Lloyd pointed this out, Garmadon laughed and asked if the Green Ninja could see him, why didn't he shoot him yet? Lloyd obliged in response, landing a direct hit on the Shark Mech. Irritated with these constant games of cat-and-mouse with his father, Lloyd demanded to know why he wanted to conquer Ninjago so badly. In response, Garmadon began to tell his story: he lost something very dear to him in this city sixteen years ago, something he should never have given up. Although Lloyd believed his father was referring to him, his hopes were shattered when Garmadon revealed that the thing dear to him was a guitar he had in college. In frustration, Lloyd asked his father to try again to which the latter realized there was something else he left behind in Ninjago City: a man he knew sixteen years ago. As Lloyd's eyes once again widened, expecting to hear his name, Garmadon revealed that the man was a sushi chef who made the best sushi the warlord had ever had! As Lloyd's heart sank yet again, he implored for his father to think of anything else there could be in Ninjago City that he left behind. After much prodding, Garmadon revealed that he also had a son whom he left in Ninjago City, which upon hearing, Lloyd's eyes widened as he quietly asked for his father to continue. Unfortunately, the next words that would come from his father's mouth would leave Lloyd utterly devastated and furious; rather than speak of how much he loved the son he left behind, Garmadon instead began speaking of how much he didn't miss or want his son, angering Lloyd into activating his mech's mega missile mode and utterly annihilating Garmadon and his forces.

Once the dust settled, Lloyd watched with hate gleaming in his eyes as Garmadon revealed he had survived by activating his emergency shielding. Yelling through gritted teeth, Lloyd made it clear to his father that he would never win and instead he ought to just disappear for good. In response, Garmadon briefly deactivated his shields to hurl a bomb at Lloyd who attempted to catch it, but instead fumbled badly because he was never taught how to catch by his father. When Garmadon and his forces made fun of Lloyd's poor catching, Lloyd angrily attempted to hurl the bomb at them but instead flung it behind him because he was never taught how to throw either. After some brief final remarks in which Lloyd vented his frustration and resentment towards his father, the latter dismissed the remarks as "weirdly personal" and left, leaving Lloyd and the Secret Ninja Force victorious once more.

Following their victory over Garmadon's forces, Lloyd's friends tried to comfort him after his emotional outburst, with many of them sympathizing with him. The exchange though would be kept brief however, as they soon noticed that Destiny's Bounty had returned, and with it, Master Wu. Wu then approached his students, and after hearing about their latest victory over Garmadon, warned that they will never be truly about to defeat the warlord until they were able to unlock their innate elemental powers. When Wu began showing each ninja their power, Lloyd asked his uncle what his was, to which Wu simply replied with, "Green." "Green?" Lloyd repeated incredulously. "Green." affirmed Wu, much to Lloyd's confusion and disappointment. Sensing his nephew's disappoint however, Wu asked Lloyd to come with him while he ordered the rest of the Secret Ninja Force to practice spinjitzu for three hours.

As they conversed, Lloyd expressed his concerns over what his father was planning deep inside of his volcano lair. Although Wu understood his nephew's concerns, he warned that no weapon could defeat Garmadon, not even the Ultimate Weapon, unless they could harness the strongest weapon of all time: the one inside all of them. Lloyd however stopped listening to his uncle after hearing the words, "Ultimate Weapon," and began to pry about it, though Wu sternly told Lloyd that his hands were the wrong hands for such a weapon. Although he was disappointed with the conversation, Lloyd nevertheless thanked his uncle and ran off home, where his mother was worried sick about him.

The next day, Garmadon attacked Ninjago City once more with a new mech. Lloyd and the Secret Ninja Force once again responded to his attack and Lloyd ordered his comrades to patrol the same areas as the prior day. Although Jay offered to confront Garmadon this time, Lloyd rebuffed him and stated coldly he would do it himself. After locating his father, Lloyd immediately activated mega missile mode, intending to end the fight before it could begin. Unfortunately this time however, Garmadon had vastly upgraded and improved his strength, shrugging off all of the missiles as if they were nothing more than tickling feathers. In response, Lloyd attempted to unleash his mech's full payload but was stopped by Garmadon and he and his mech were flung out into the sea. Rising out of the water, Lloyd watched hopelessly as his father scaled Ninjago Tower and planted his flag atop the skyscraper in victory. As he looked to the side and spotted Destiny's Bounty however, Lloyd came up with an idea.

As Garmadon proclaimed his victory and successful conquest of Ninjago, Lloyd confronted him with the Ultimate Weapon. Although initially reluctant to fire it, Lloyd ultimately used it after tolerating enough of Garmadon's goading, closing his eyes as he expected to to annihilate his father. To his surprise however, nothing happened. Or at least, nothing immediately. Believing he had failed to use the Ultimate Weapon properly, Lloyd turned it around to examine it, unaware that the weapon's beacon of red light was summoning something from beyond the horizon. As the ground itself began to shake, Lloyd watched in horror as a monstrosity beyond comprehension arrived in Ninjago City, destroying all in its path: Meowthra.

In horror of the destruction he had inadvertently unleashed, Lloyd desperately sought to find a way to turn off the Ultimate Weapon, but Garmadon's generals dogpiled him and stole the Ultimate Weapon for their master. Now restrained by the multitude of generals, Lloyd could do nothing but watch helplessly as Garmadon used the Ultimate Weapon to lure Meowthra into destroying the Secret Ninja Force's vehicles. After enduring Garmadon's vicious mocking for some time, Lloyd finally snapped and unmasked himself, addressing Garmadon as "dad," surprising the warlord and his minions. With a deathly glare, kicked the Ultimate Weapon from his father's hands, shattering it on the ground below. In a voice just barely loud enough for Garmadon to hear, Lloyd growled under his breath his wish that Garmadon wasn't his father before leaping off the tower to escape, leaving his stunned father behind.

After escaping from Ninjago Tower, Lloyd wandered across the ruined city, littered with the remains of the Secret Ninja Force's mechs. Fortunately, to his relief, all of his friends survived and had regrouped back outside of their warehouse. However, they were most definitely not in a forgiving mood and were all quick to bash Lloyd for ignoring Wu's warnings against using the Ultimate Weapon. Jay and Zane in fact twisted the knife even further, with the former flatly saying they were the only people in Ninjago who didn't hate Lloyd, but now they all do while the latter declared he would delete all data in his memory of ever being friends with Lloyd. At that moment, Wu revealed himself and declared he would journey alone to the Temple of Fragile Foundations to retrieve the Ultimate Ultimate Weapon, which was the only thing that could defeat Meowthra. In response, Lloyd pleaded with his uncle to allow him and his friends to participate in the journey alongside him, a request Wu would agree to after much insistence.

As they all journeyed onward to the Jungle of Lost Souls, Lloyd seemed eager to redeem himself in the eyes of his friends and followed Wu the closest out of everyone in the long and arduous journey. Some time later, Wu began to teach a lesson to the Secret Ninja Force, but ended it prematurely after sensing the presence of his brother. Heeding his uncle's orders to hide, Lloyd climbed up a stick of bamboo and hung upside down from it, believing that he had successfully hidden himself from view. Later, as Wu's fight with Garmadon took them across the treacherous Bridge of Fallen Mentors, Lloyd and the others carefully watched from behind and Lloyd scrambled to save his uncle as he fell from the bridge, plunging into the waters below. Though he was relieved that Wu survived, Lloyd became disappointed once more when he realized that he and his friends now had to contend with his father as their new master.

With Garmadon in tow, Lloyd and the Secret Ninja Force pressed onwards to the Canyon of General Unhappiness, with Lloyd silently leading the way. While his friends began asking his father question after question about himself, Lloyd mostly ignored the ongoing conversation, refusing to partake in anything that had to do with his father. On the few moments he did partake in the conversation, it was to express his frustration and incredulity that his friends were even entertaining Garmadon to begin with. For his part, Jay didn't hesitate to make it known to Lloyd that the rest of the Ninja respected and liked Garmadon, but none of them liked him. After finally arriving at the Canyon, the group found themselves ambushed by the Fired Generals who had been driven insane as a result of their traumatic experiences from being literally fired by Garmadon and now craved vengeance against him. As the Secret Ninja Force fought to protect Garmadon, Lloyd tried fruitlessly to lead his friends, emphasizing for them to use the elemental powers they all innately possessed; unfortunately, no one listened to him and they were overrun by the generals, who then captured Lloyd and his father and brought them back to their lair.

As the victorious generals carried Lloyd and his father to their lair, all of the scorned generals (save for Olivia) failed to recognize Lloyd, only referring to him as a 'random kid.' As the two were carried off, Garmadon began complaining about his former minions to Lloyd, remarking that he was being treated like he's the worst guy in the world, but he was glad Lloyd didn't have to ever experience anything like this before in his life. In annoyance, Lloyd snapped back that contrary to his father's beliefs, every day of his life was just like this because of Garmadon's actions; because Garmadon keeps destroying people's lives, trying to conquer Ninjago, and he never taught Lloyd how to throw or catch. Horrified by Lloyd's lament, his father suggested for him to fire people out of a volcano the next time they make fun of him, much to Lloyd's dismay as he let out a sigh and a backhanded insult to his father.

After the Secret Ninja Force infiltrated the lair and saved Lloyd and his father from being fired into a volcano, Garmadon ordered the rest to start building an escape vehicle while he and Lloyd would throw the required pieces to them. When Lloyd once again demonstrated his inability to throw, Garmadon declared it would be time for some father-son bonding, turning on a song by Jim Croce while teaching Lloyd how to throw. Eventually, thanks to his father's tutelage, Lloyd developed his aiming and throwing, even succeeding at nailing Cole right in the face with brick after the latter requested it. To Lloyd's surprise, he found this experience of bonding with his father, whom he had nothing but contempt for only moments before, to be actually enjoyable! Lloyd's moment of happiness though had lowered his guard, allowing Olivia to tackle him off the Ninja's vehicle from behind. As the wicked general leaned over him, raising sword over her head for the killing blow, Garmadon ran her over with the vehicle and immediately rushed to his son's side.

Concerned, Garmadon desperately asked Lloyd if he was okay. Lloyd affirmed he was feeling fine for the most part, but admitted there was a slight numbness in his right arm. Turning to the side for his father to have a look, Lloyd remained unaware that his entire right arm had been ripped clean off, though the expressions of his father and friends was not really brewing a sense of comfort in him. Slowly, Lloyd turned his head towards his right side and immediately began screaming and freaking out as he realized his arm was missing. Fortunately though, the Secret Ninja Force were able to retrieve Lloyd's missing arm and Garmadon popped it back into place, after which, Lloyd and and the others boarded the helicopter they just built to escape the Canyon of General Unhappiness and complete their final leg of the journey to the Temple of Fragile Foundations.

Soaring through the air, Lloyd and his father continued to bond, making small talk as they talked about the latter's piloting. After playing around with the helicopter's functions though, they ultimately crashed into a goat and made a crash landing down onto the mountains below, landing just short of the Temple of Fragile Foundations. Wasting no time, the group began ascending the massive set of stairs leading to the ancient temple, during which Garmadon expressed familiarity with the location, much to Lloyd's surprise. Within the home, Cole pointed out a series of family portraits hanging against a wall. As they all looked through the portraits, one in particular caught Lloyd's eye: one depicting his father fighting alongside an orange haired woman - Lady Iron Dragon, or as Garmadon revealed, Koko - Lloyd's mother! Lloyd then listened on to Garmadon's recollection of how he and Koko met while the rest of the Ninja searched for the Ultimate Ultimate Weapon.

At the conclusion of Garmadon's story, the ninja called for Lloyd and his father to one of the bedrooms, inside of which they had discovered a chest containing the Ultimate Ultimate Weapon. All eyes focused on Lloyd as he slowly opened the golden chest, revealing inside of it to be...a pile of parts. While the others were quick to voice their disappointment, Lloyd realized that there were six parts, each representing one of each of the six ninja's innate elemental powers! Believing to have discovered their elemental abilities, the group packed up the parts and began walking through the halls of the Temple of Fragile Foundations, planning to return to Ninjago City to defeat Meowthra. Lloyd walked alongside his father and the latter spoke glowingly of the wonderful experience he has had embarking on this journey together with his son. Lloyd smiled at his father's words, turning towards him as Garmadon expressed he had realized something important: he and Lloyd shouldn't have to fight one another anymore, but instead, they could be father and General #1! Wait, what? Lloyd froze and his smile faded as he realized his father's words. When he declined Garmadon's offer of conquest and suggested that he could instead be a hero, Garmadon seemed just as equally disappointed, regrettably noting that no one could ever possibly see him as a hero, and if he couldn't change for Koko all those years ago, how could anyone to expect him to change now? In spite of Lloyd's pleas, Garmadon snatched the chest holding the Ultimate Ultimate Weapon and attempted to flee.

In the ensuing chaos, the ninja fought Garmadon for control over the chest, even managing to reclaim it and hurled it amongst one another to keep it away from Garmadon's hands. Unfortunately, when Nya threw the chest to Lloyd, he stumbled and failed to catch it. In response, Garmadon sadly noted in realization that he had forgotten to teach his son how to catch before grabbing the chest and escaping from the Temple of Fragile Foundations. To further worsen matters, the conqueror's departure destabilized the entire mountain, causing it and the temple that rested upon it to both begin collapsing. During their initial panic, Lloyd ducked for cover behind an overturned table alongside Kai and Cole but soon recalled upon Wu's final words before being swept away by the current: "Find your inner peace! The power is inside you!" Glancing around towards his friends, Lloyd now realized and understood what his uncle had meant. Rallying them up together, Lloyd explained that none of them required the Ultimate Ultimate Weapon to access their elemental powers, but rather, the powers truly were inside each and every one of them, and to access them, all they had to do was to let go of fear and find inner peace! With Lloyd's help and encouragement, each member of the Secret Ninja Force awakened their elemental powers and together, the six used their newly discovered abilities to escape from the crumbling temple and landing atop of Destiny's Bounty, captained by none other than Master Wu himself.

Upon returning to Ninjago City, Lloyd led the Secret Ninja Force in a charge towards Garmadon and Meowthra, fighting against the Shark Army as they made their way to the pair. After sneaking and fighting their way through Garmadon's forces, they arrived before the giant cat, but it was too late; Garmadon had already been eaten by the massive feline. While the townsfolk cheered Garmadon's seeming end and the Ninja discussed amongst themselves their next course of action, Lloyd solemnly approached the belly of the beast alone, unmasking himself and revealing his identity to the world. Stepping slowly and quietly towards Meowthra, Lloyd gently patted her nose before speaking indirectly to his father, expressing how he knew that when others saw him, all they saw was a monster, but he had come to learn there was more to Garmadon than that. Letting go of all the years of repressed anger and contempt, Lloyd apologized for wishing that Garmadon wasn't his father, admitting that in truth, he just always wished his father had been around in his life growing up and that somehow they could get that time back. Unbeknownst to Lloyd, Garmadon wept tears of lava as he listened to his son's words, burning Meowthra's stomach as they fell from his face and upsetting her stomach. With a sudden roar that startled Lloyd, Meowthra spat out Garmadon, reuniting the father and son. Tearfully, Garmadon sheepishly asked Lloyd if he meant every word he said to "Meowthra," to which Lloyd affirmed with a laugh. Koko then ran over to her son from the onlooking crowd and warmly embraced him, wrapping him up in a tight hug.

After being released from his mother's embrace, Lloyd turned to his uncle and said he understood now the meaning behind his power of "Green": green was the color of life, connecting all living things like how Lloyd connects his loved ones together. With a smile, Wu affirmed Lloyd's understanding of his powers and added that while some powers could not be seen physically, they were the most important powers of all.

Sometime later, Lloyd helped his mother and Nya establish a reintegration program for the former members of the now disbanded Shark Army. Garmadon also rejoined his ex-wife and son, with the three of them now able to finally spend time together once again as a united family. And perhaps, most of all, Garmadon finally taught Lloyd how to catch.

Appearance

Appearance[]

Lloyd wears a mainly-black Ninja outfit, with some green details to show his element, which is green/energy of life. His eyes, unlike his series counterpart (at least until Season 8) are green. He has slightly different hair from his TV show appearance, as it is a shaggy, pale blonde cut. He has brown, thick eyebrows instead of black like in the TV show canon up until Season 8.

Personality

Personality[]

With Garmadon, an evil warlord as his dad, Lloyd is often seen as an outcast at school; the only friends he has are the members of the Secret Ninja Force. Although he gets angry at his father for not caring enough about him, he attempts to establish a good relationship with him throughout the movie.

Lloyd shows great compassion and leadership to his teammates, such as leading them into battle and helping them unlock their powers, thus making him a true friend and a great leader to the other Ninja. Lloyd deeply cares about his teammates and believes in each of them as they train and fight together as a team.

Since his element is Green, he can connect with his friends and his family and bring them all together in harmony.

At the end of the movie, Lloyd finally reconnects with his father and is happy to have his father in his life and can spend as much time with him than he ever wanted.

When Lloyd saves his father, his family, and the people of Ninjago from Meowthra, he is now a hero to everyone in Ninjago.
