Cat-Eye Jewel

Overview

“It has been true ever since the stone was created. Because the life of a cat is precious, and often dangerous, the stone protects them by giving each one eight extra lives. However, any cat who harvests the power of the stone will steal all of the lives it holds and become immortal. That is why we guard it so carefully.”

The Cat-Eye Jewel is an ancient gemstone protected by the Order of Felis. While the jewel can grant any cat nine lives, it can allow the cat in possession of it immortality.

History

History[]

Prior to Wu and Garmadon's journey[]

At some point in time, the Cat-Eye Jewel landed in the possession of the Order of Felis. In order to protect its sacred powers for the good of all cats, one of the Order's warriors, Komala, placed a spell on the jewel so that no human could steal its powers.

Eventually, Nineko learned of the jewel and its powers in her bid to gain immortality. In an effort to steal the jewel, Nineko transformed herself into a cat but was blasted away by Komala who arrived just in time. In order to further protect it from Nineko and other would-be thieves, Komala casted many more spells around the surrounding mountains so that no cat could climb it either, thus denying Nineko the ability to make further attempts at obtaining the jewel herself. However, these additional safeguards would not deter the sorceress. Although she was unable to obtain the jewel herself, Nineko turned to the aid of countless others, ranging from persuaded travelers to monsters she had summoned and enthralled from the farthest reaches of Ninjago in a bid to claim the jewel. Up to the time of Wu and Garamdon's journey, all of these efforts had ended in failure.

The Curse of the Cat-Eye Jewel (flashback)[]

After recusing Wu and Garmadon from one of the monsters she had summoned in the past and from falling off a cliff, Nineko offered to train the boys in the ways of Catjitzu, a martial art of her creation, in exchange for the pair bringing the Cat-Eye Jewel to her, claiming that it had been stolen from her by the Order of Felis long ago.

Although the brothers initially intended to uphold their end of the agreement, both reneged on the deal after learning the truth behind Nineko's story, prompting her to enthrall Garmadon with her Dark Magic to bring the jewel to her. Although Garmadon was successful in his task and Nineko gained possession of the Cat-Eye Jewel, her spell backfired on her as she did not specify in her orders to Garmadon that he was to get the jewel and bring it to her, only stating the former. As a result, a still enthralled Garmadon turned on Nineko to carry out his orders, tackling her and causing the jewel to fly from her grasp and into Wu's hands. In a desperate bid to claim the jewel, Nineko lunged at Wu, but in doing so, she slipped against the ground's uneven and wet terrain, sending her falling down one of the cliffs and into the ravine below. With Nineko gone, Garmadon was released from her spell and both brothers raced to see who could return the jewel to its shrine at the top of the mountain first.
