Plot
Plot[]
The Invisible Master[]
Cole and Kai walk around the ship, discussing the Elemental Masters: Gravis, the Master of Gravity, Griffin Turner, the Master of Speed, and Karlof, the Master of Metal. Then Kai remembers Mr. Pale, who suddenly appears nearby.
A Cup of Victory[]
This is one of Lar's made-up stories that he told to people in Nom.
Kai learns he's about to face Lar, the Master of Water, in a trial match. He says he won't be able to fight at full strength due to his fear of water, but Lloyd encourages him, reminding him of one of Sensei Wu's lessons. The match doesn't go well for the red ninja: he fails to land a single blow and decides to take a breather. The other ninja from the stands suggest their next move, and Lloyd recommends "boiling some tea." Kai begins to think of Sensei Wu brewing tea and realizes what he needs to do. During the next round, he uses Fire Spinjitzu, which turns a stream of water into steam. When Lar loses sight of the arena, Kai easily navigates by the sound of his breathing and defeats his opponent.
The Record[]
It's time for Griffin Turner and Jay's trial match. Cole warns that the blue ninja's opponent can land up to 70 strikes per round, though he hasn't yet broken Wu's record of 90. Then the earth ninja adds that they should watch Griffin's left leg, as he can kick it up to 50 times per minute, a world record. The fight begins, and Jay immediately lunges at his opponent, who easily pushes back the lightning ninja. Cole says that Jay flew a full five meters after the kick, and the defeated hero asks what the world record is in this case.
Trivia
Trivia[]
- The character Lar is introduced. He is shown to be the Master of Water, as this book was released before Nya was revealed to be the Master of Water in Season 5.
- In chapter 4 of Way of the Departed, Seliel mentions that Lar had convinced the people of her village that he was the Master of Water. "He had even duped a local publisher to release fake stories about his 'legendary' battles," implying that his appearance in this book is just a fake story created by him.
