Lloyd

Overview

For other uses, see Lloyd (disambiguation).
“During the fight, I was trying to force things to go the way I wanted, to control it all... But now I realize, I need to let go sometimes.”

Master Lloyd Montgomery Garmadon is the legendary Green Ninja and the current Elemental Master of Life. Lloyd has held the title of the Golden Ninja and is a Conduit for the Source Dragon of Energy, as well as the current leader/master of the ninja, serving as the mentor of Arin, Sora, Wyldfyre, and Frak. He is the son of Garmadon and Misako, the nephew of Wu, and the grandson of the First Spinjitzu Master.

Once a bratty kid who sought to follow in his father's footsteps, Lloyd changed his ways by helping the ninja and embracing his destiny as the Green Ninja. As the ninja trained Lloyd, he artificially matured into a teenager and fought in several conflicts such as being the Final battle, the Battle for New Ninjago City, and the Second Serpentine War, which ended with Lloyd having to banish his father to the Cursed Realm; accidentally freeing Wu's old pupil, Morro.

Morro soon had possessed Lloyd and claimed the Realm Crystal to free the Preeminent, eventually succeeding. With the help of the ninja, Lloyd escaped Morro's possession in a trade and helped battle him and defeat the Preeminent.

Lloyd led the ninja against the Sons of Garmadon, who resurrected his father. Lord Garmadon is resurrected as an evil warlord, and nearly kills Lloyd in a battle that strips him of his Elemental Power. Lloyd then led the Resistance against his corrupted father and his followers and regained his Element in a confrontation with his father. When the Oni invaded Ninjago, Lloyd and Garmadon discovered that the secret to defeating them was the Golden Armor. With the Golden Weapons rebuilt, Lloyd, the ninja, Wu, and Garmadon combined their powers into an ultimate Tornado of Creation, vanquishing the Bringers of Doom.

A year after the Great Flood, he and his teammates and allies would band together to fulfill the final prophecy of Quanish the Elder and stop the Overlord once more.

Following the Merge, Lloyd became separated from his friends. He later takes in Arin, Riyu, and Sora to train them to be ninja. Lloyd would later become a Conduit for the Source Dragon of Energy and used the Dragon Cores to stabilize the world and free the Source Dragon from Imperium.

The following year, Lloyd had been receiving haunting visions of events to come during the Blood Moon. Following a defeat at the hands of Ras and Cinder, Lloyd accompanied the Ninja to the Wyldness to find Egalt and Rontu to learn Rising Dragon that can counter Shatterspin. When Riyu's Matriarch was murdered, Lloyd and the ninja infiltrate the Tournament of the Sources to find the culprit, meeting up with old friends and allies in the process. Later on, Lloyd was gifted the Source Dragon of Motion's Dragon Icon by her personally as a token of gratitude. He later took Frak in as his third student.

Appearance

Appearance[]

Lloyd has mid-length, blond tousled hair, and brown arched eyebrows. His eyes are visibly green, and occasionally glow when he uses his powers. As of Sons of Garmadon, Lloyd had grown up further and has an updated design and a deeper voice. Lloyd is usually seen with a smirking expression. Whenever he lost access to his powers in Hunted, his green eyes returned to their original black color. When he is driven to his breaking point, such as in "The Spider's Design," his eyes take on a purple hue, unleashing his Oni side. During the beginning of Sora and Arin's training, Lloyd reveals that he has started to grow facial hair (albeit essentially impossible to notice).

Previously, Lloyd had thin black eyebrows and normal eyes. Initially, Lloyd was a young boy with a blond "bowl-cut" hairstyle. After the Grundle incident in "Child's Play" exposed him to the aging effects of Tomorrow's Tea, Lloyd became a teenager with a slightly deeper voice and a new, tousled hairstyle.

As a child, he wore black clothing, a purple sash around his waist, with white rib-like markings on his shirt, resembling the appearance of his father, Lord Garmadon. However, the illusion is negated by Lloyd's normal-looking face and hands, as well as the small green number "5" on the upper left side of his shirt that foreshadows him being the fifth and the well known Green Ninja. While leaving Darkley's Boarding School for Bad Boys, Lloyd stole a black hood and cape to make his outfit look more menacing.[5] After moving in with the ninja, he wore it periodically, primarily during his time in the Serpentine's captivity. When his destiny as the Green Ninja was revealed, Lloyd mainly wore the green gi of the Chosen One (ZX). Also, here are Lloyd's appearances in other ninja suits.

When possessed by Morro's spirit, Lloyd's hair darkened to black and his skin became pale with visible shadows surrounding his eyes, similar to Morro’s own appearance. His suit took on more of a darker shade of green and had more black accessories including a hood. Between "Winds of Change" and "The Temple on Haunted Hill," he adorned the Allied Armor of Azure.

As of "Curseworld, Part I," Lloyd once again has civilian attire consisting of a green shirt, gray pants, and a dark green jacket with his dragon symbol on the back. He wears a black fedora with a green stripe with it in Skybound.

When he fought Morro and was freed from the Cursed Realm, he wore his father's gi.

In Skybound, he was briefly turned into an old man after making a wish to Nadakhan to become "wise like Wu" in "Wishmasters," referencing Wu's remark to Morro in "Winds of Change," "with age comes wisdom." He became an elderly man with a similar appearance to his father and uncle, with white hair and increasingly more apparent wrinkles and age lines. This change was reversed as a result of Jay's wish in "The Way Back," which caused the majority of events in Skybound to be undone.

In "The Jade Princess," Harumi gave Lloyd a white hooded jacket to wear over his ninja gi as a disguise.

In "The Gilded Path," Lloyd wore an outfit similar to what some of the fishermen in Ninjago City wear, after burning his ninja suit. Harumi called his appearance "a beggar in rags."

In "Racer Seven," Lloyd wore his avatar in an attempt to disguise himself from the Red Visors. It consisted of a green jacket with a right gold sleeve, unzipped to reveal his chest, green pants, gold boots, and a brownish-blonde Mohawk.

In "Farewell the Sea" and "The Shape of Nya," as a window washer, Lloyd wore a white t-shirt, green overalls, and a white and green cap.

In "The Fifth Villain" and "The Council of the Crystal King," Lloyd disguised himself as The Mechanic to infiltrate the Crystal King's Council. His disguise consisted of a black bowler hat, a faux mustache, a mechanical arm and a red coat.

In "Roots", Lloyd unleashed his full Oni form, which consisted of a golden body similar to other Oni with four arms, white long horns, large glowing pink/purple eyes and golden gloves, while in the sets, his Oni form has two arms, green eyes, and gold horns.

From "Return to Imperium" to "I Will Be the Danger", Lloyd donned the disguise of an Imperium citizen under the alias of "Doyll Donmagar".

During certain episodes of Season 2 at the Tournament of the Sources, Lloyd donned a white kimono with dragon buckles connecting a chain across his shoulders, green markings, and a green headband.

Age

Age[]

The ninja's ages are not specified.[6]

Ninjago: Physically, Lloyd was in his late adolescence, like the majority of his fellow ninja. As of "Day of the Departed," he was chronologically in his early teens, making him the youngest of the ninja team.[7] Prior to the Tomorrow's Tea, he was a short legged child. In Chapter 4 of The Splinter in the Blind Man's Eye, it's stated that he was less than 10 at the time of "Rise of the Snakes." In Dragons Rising Season 4, it is established that the Tomorrow's Tea made him skip his tweenager years, specifically the time period in which he would have had mid-legs.

Dragons Rising: The Merge occurs sometime after Crystalized, and the main events of the series take place an unknown amount of years later. Children before the Merge grew into teenagers, which may imply that he and the other five ninja, excluding Zane, are now young adults in their 20s instead of teens. However, as mentioned above, the creators do not specify ages.

Possible estimations: Initially, Lloyd may have been a young boy of about 9–11 years old, 5–6 years younger than the ninja.[8][9] After using the Tomorrow's Tea to save his friends and destroy the Grundle, Lloyd was caught in the blast that reversed the Mega Weapon's de-aging spell. While the ninja returned to their normal ages, Lloyd was aged into his teens along with them (who were at least 16 years old) but was still mentally a kid.[10][11] As he may have been aged around 2 years older, he would then be the same physical age as Nya.[12] Alternatively, he may have been around the same physical age as the other ninja.[13] As of Season 8, he was mentally close to the older ninja's ages.[14] According to Jillian Michaels, during an interview with Brent Miller, Lloyd was 10 years old when he was first introduced and became 14 years old after using the Tomorrow's Tea.[15]

Personality

Personality[]

Lloyd is the wise leader of the team and is fully dedicated to the way of the ninja. Once a mischievous and easily distracted child trying to follow in his evil father's footsteps, after becoming the Green Ninja, he has since grown into a quiet and mature young man. He is deeply fond of his friends and family and will stop at nothing to defend them, even prioritizing their safety over his own. He is goodhearted and at times naïve, making him an easy target of deception by his enemies. Lloyd is one of the calmer and mellowed members of the team. He has been through much tragedy in his life, but has taken it in stride and channels his losses into becoming a better ninja and eventually a master to his own students, like his uncle before him.

Throughout his life, one constant of Lloyd's personality was his love for his father, Lord Garmadon. It was a desire to follow in his evil parent's footsteps that drove him to enroll in Darkley's School for Bad Boys—and later, to unleash the Serpentine upon Ninjago.

However, his attempts to become the next evil overlord of Ninjago were largely stymied by his inherently good personality—Lloyd's idea of "evil" was stealing candy, pulling pranks, and overseeing Ninjago from within a treehouse fortress, with his best attempt at an evil laugh being a rather melodramatic "Muhahahaha!" Lloyd's lack of true evil was evidenced by the fact he was expelled from Darkley's as he "lacked the amoral ambition to be one of tomorrow's masterminds"; That is also showed in his demeanor around his Serpentine "minions;" he usually went along with whatever ideas they concocted, and was quick to call a retreat if the battle turned even slightly against his allies. He also displayed extreme naivety about their warlike society, expecting Skales to hand over the Hypnobrai Staff to Slithraa simply because the latter outranked him.

After being betrayed by Pythor and taking up residence on the Destiny's Bounty, Lloyd's true nature began to emerge. Having been turned from the path of evil by Master Wu's guidance, he turned his thoughts to stopping the Serpentine threat (partially out of guilt for releasing the first three tribes in the first place). He retained a mischievous streak for a time (as seen when he assisted Master Wu in teaching the Ninja about the destructive power of rumors), but quickly grew out of it after being forced to clean up the messes his pranks left. He also dedicated his life to helping the ninja in any way he could, but his lack of combat talents and inexperience with battling the Serpentine meant that he was relegated to the ship during their missions. This desire to help led to Lloyd's capture when he blew his cover at the City of Ouroboros.

The revelation that he was destined to become the Green Ninja further increased Lloyd's eagerness to help—to his chagrin, this only meant that the ninja had even less incentive to take him on missions. He was also forced to confront the fact that he was now destined to fight his father, Lord Garmadon, for the fate of Ninjago, causing him to alternate between regret and hostility towards the four-armed villain. Despite this, Lloyd continued to love his father, being saddened when Lord Garmadon had to leave the ship for good. His fate also forced Lloyd to stop enjoying his childhood the way he wanted, as training consumed much of the time he would use to play with other kids or enjoy things like videogames and comic books, something that he clearly disliked.

Lloyd underwent his most dramatic personality shift yet when he was aged to a teenager by Tomorrow's Tea. He became much more serious and calmer than before, dedicating himself to his training and becoming a true valuable asset to the ninja team. However, his misgivings about confronting his father only grew stronger, forcing Master Wu and Misako to constantly remind him that he had no choice. Despite this, Lloyd was unable to overcome his love for his father, leading to him failing to destroy Lord Garmadon when the latter was vulnerable. It was only when the Overlord took complete control of Garmadon's body was Lloyd able to discard his misgivings and access his full power.

After the battle with the Overlord, he became somewhat cocky about his abilities, and after being made a fool of while sparring with his father in front of a class and his fellow ninja, he nearly unleashed an energy blast on him in anger, but quickly calmed down. He was at first reluctant to learn how to further harness his power over the elements and not rely too much on them, but eventually, he became more willing to listen to his father's teachings after having to use his power to save him. After the Overlord almost managed to get fully revived by stealing his golden power, Lloyd realized such power was too much for him carry on his own, so he made the decision to share it with the other Ninja, not only giving their elemental powers back, but also ensuring no one would be able to use the Golden Power for evil ever again.

Upon his search for Zane alongside his friends, he underwent yet another dramatic change that would shape his fate: the role of becoming a leader. Even when the others were down from either loss or current circumstances, he always rallied them with supporting words that gave them newfound strength to continue on and, eventually, succeed. This was seen where Lloyd managed to gather his friends after they got separated due to the loss of Zane and decided to go together rescue him. This quality came to the point of rallying and leading both the Elemental Masters, the people of Ninjago and the Serpentine against Chen's forces in the Second Serpentine War, which then sprung a new challenge of his role being tested by Morro. Ultimately, after receiving some final words of wisdom from his father, he let go of what remained of his childish desires and embraced his chosen path of becoming a wise and powerful master, like his father before him.

After wishing to be as wise as Wu to Nadahkan, Lloyd was able to incorporate his uncle's immense wisdom, not only in combat, but also in a matter of forward perception, as he came to realize that Jay's last wish was their last hope, as long it was said from the heart. This led him to save both Jay and Nya, even if that meant he and Cole would be captured by Nadahkan.

When Wu gets struck by the Forward Time Blade by Acronix and started to age rapidly, Lloyd became the acting master, a role that he struggle a lot to come to terms with, especially when he would try to emulate his uncle, instead of doing things his way. This is evidenced how the Ninja wouldn't listen to him, even if he would use the exact same words Wu would have used. However, a year after Wu's disappearance at the end of the battle against the Time Twins, Lloyd fully settled into being leader, with the addition of taking over the role of the ninja's master.

After meeting Harumi for the first time, Lloyd immediately felt an attraction towards her. This would cause him to act awkwardly at her presence, especially in their interactions. His feelings for her only got deeper after he, while in a misguided attempted to save her, ended up discovering Harumi would occasionally give food to the poor. However, the major difference in their respective status was an obstacle to any potential romance that could have started between them, something that left Lloyd very sad. This would then change after the Palace was attacked by the Sons of Garmadon, resuting in the emperor and empress' respective deaths. Harumi was taken in by the Ninja, especially to protect her. This allowed Lloyd to get even closer to her and his feelings grow even more.

However, it would later be revealed Harumi was manipulating Lloyd, taking advantage of his feelings for her to infiltrate the Ninja and use him to get the last Oni Mask. Being betrayed by Harumi caused Lloyd no small amount of grief. The revelation was hurtful and left Lloyd conflicted about what to do, leading to him being captured and used on Harumi's ceremony. Being the kind person he is, it is rare for Lloyd to be cold to someone... but he made an exception for Harumi, however, as is shown when he glared at her after she attempted to trick him once again after being arrested, resulting in him closeing the police transport van doors on her in "Dread on Arrival" (he would coldly glared at her the second time after escaping from her in Primeval's Eye). This heartbreak was so deep that Lloyd started to seclude himself from enjoying any quality time with his friends. However, his mother managed to convince him to not let Harumi harden his heart and turn him like her, an advice that he took to the heart.

Lloyd was heartbroken when he assumed that Kai, Zane, Jay, Cole, and Wu were killed by the Colossus, shedding a few tears. But, refusing to give in to despair as Harumi intended, he remained determined to defeat the Sons of Garmadon and avenge his friends and uncle. However, the loss of his Elemental Power made Lloyd begin to doubt his usefulness to Ninjago, and to the Resistance. Luckily, with Nya's encouragement and the hope of seeing Zane, Cole, Kai, Jay, and Wu again, Lloyd has seemingly overcome this doubt. Skylor's powers returning also gave Lloyd hope that his own would come back, and that is something Lloyd looks forward to.

While lowing low with the Resistance, Lloyd started to undergo a special training from Mystake to help him regain his confidence as a leader, teaching him how to guide and inspire others, a lesson that allowed him to give hope to the citizens of Ninjago, even if that meant to confront his previous loss against his father. But the most important lesson she gave him was the ability to "endure": to survive long enough until his friends would return to Ninjago from the First Realm. This lesson would then becoming the key to defeat Garmadon, as resisting him instead of fighting him is what deprived the latter of his powers and allowed him to regain his.

With the Oni invading, Lloyd is forced to set his father free so he could help them. However, having this evil version of his father around caused distress to him, as Lloyd came to fully face the fact the one standing in front him was not the man he used to know, the one that loved him and sacrificed himself to save Ninjago. The distress got even worse after Cole falling into the darkness and Garmadon told him to simply shrugged it off, resulting in an outburst from Lloyd.

After Oni's invasion and the full return of Master Wu, Lloyd had more time for fun and did not have to worry about the duties of a master, which was reflected in his character. Like the other ninja, he became lazier, not even having a problem farting into the tub in the presence of Master Wu and still pretending it did not happen. His characteristic manifestations include scratching the top of his head when he is nervous. It has also been shown that he cannot bear to meditate and needs to act. The emotional pain left by Harumi also took a toll on him, where he showed extreme distrust of all princesses and claimed that they were all equally treacherous. However, he finally admitted that Vania was not bad and got rid of this distrust. He does not like to trust people who may be traitors, which turned out to be dissatisfied with the police hiring Ronin to catch the Kryptarium inmates. He is also very hasty when it comes to his loved ones, as evidenced when Wu and Misako got lost on an uncharted island. Lloyd was immediately determined to save them without thinking. He is also very helpful in the case of housework, which is shown when he was washing clothes in "Shintaro" or washing dishes in "The Call of the Deep." It's also very easy to persuade him to stop as long as he can have fun, which turned out when he went to play video games with Cole instead of washing clothes. Lloyd also has a sarcastic sense of humor, Which is more prominent in Season 11 onward.

He is also very talkative when he is alone or talking to someone who does not understand him, such as when he was with Akita, whom he thought was just a wolf, as he spoke about his most personal life events, such as Harumi's betrayal. This shows how much he dislikes being alone, possibly coming from his trauma of losing his friends during his father's invasion.

Lloyd's greatest fear is of becoming like his father, a great twist of irony, considering he initially wanted to be like him. After being confronted with the possibility of losing his friends and family at the hands of villains, Lloyd's anger caused his dark powers to come to the surface, with one time even leading him to adopt an Oni form. However, as soon Lloyd saw himself as an Oni, he quickly repressed it, feeling a great deal of disgust towards it. However, he did heed Garmadon's reproach about resisting his oni form, acknowledging it might have worked. He might have let go of this fear after he reconciled with his reborn father. Lloyd also takes pride in his heroics as he was offended that the New Ninja called him old and when the Source Dragon of Strength didn't consider him much.

After the Merge, Lloyd went through a hard time, being all alone and without knowing how his friends and uncle were, a feeling that got better after reuniting with Kai. Soon enough, he encountered two kids and a baby dragon being held hostages by the Claws of Imperium, leading him to become the formers' teacher, after witnessing Arin's great potential in Spinjitzu and Sora's elemental power. However, becoming a teacher revealed itself as one of Lloyd's greatest challenges. Not only he struggled in finding the best way to teach them (all while confronting with the same problems Master Wu had with him and the other Ninja), but he also struggled to balance his role as a teacher, leader and keeper of the monastery. This came at the cost of neglecting the personal distress of his students, especially Arin, who slowly started losing faith in him as he started to prioritize other things over finding his parents, a vulnerability that Ras was able to exploit and resulted in Arin leaving the Ninja to search for his parents. Realizing his neglect, Lloyd started to prioritize his loved ones, as shown when he went to search for Arin, instead of locating the Forbidden Five. He also realized he couldn't choose the path his students would follow, with the only thing he could do is to be there for them whenever they need him. That also included coming to terms with them eventually deciding to retire from being a ninja, a possibility that almost came to pass with Arin.

After becoming a conduit to the Source Dragons, Lloyd started to be plagued by terrible and intense visions that haunted him even in his sleep, something that led him to become sleep-deprived. Even if he learned how to control those visions better, their unpredictable nature still causes him to be nervous whenever he feels them starting to happen.

  • Life: Lloyd is gifted with the powerful element of Life, allowing him to release and use life energy attacks to his advantage. He initially was weak with the ability but grew to master it to the point that he was able to battle his father in hand-to-hand combat. He was unable to use his powers for a prolonged amount of time after "True Potential" and throughout most of Hunted, but was able to regain his powers after the Liberation of Ninjago. Despite Lloyd losing access to the four original ninja's elements (Fire, Earth, Ice, and Lightning) after giving up his Golden Power, Lloyd can use his power to charge certain batteries (as shown when he fixes the mech in "The Message") due to his powers being "all of [their] elements rolled into one," as described by Cole in "The Oni and the Dragon."
  • Lloyd using power during

Lloyd using Golden Power power during the Final Battle

Golden Power (formerly): When he became the Ultimate Spinjitzu Master, Lloyd's powers reached their full devastating potential. He gained the ability to levitate in mid-air, incredible strength that allowed him to knock around the far larger Overlord, and the ability to summon the Golden Dragon from pure light energy. At the end of his battle with the Overlord, he charged his powers within the villain's supersized mouth, creating an explosion of light that utterly obliterated the dark dragon and purified his father.[17] With this power, he can also utilize the four elements of Creation (Fire, Earth, Ice, and Lightning) at will.[2] He lost this ability after giving it up for the ninja to restore their Elemental Powers.[18]
  • Elemental Powers (formerly): Due to him previously having the potential to unlock Golden Power, Lloyd originally used the four Elements of Creation (Earth, Fire, Ice, and Lightning) which he manage to defeat several Stone warriors. During the Tournament of Sources, Lloyd was given the powers of his opponents, such as Fusion, Light, Propulsion, Shockwave, Size, and Wind. However, he lost these to Nokt.
  • Draco-Ergokinesis: Being granted dragon energy by the Source Dragon of Energy, Lloyd became a conduit of his power with the ability to manipulate dragon energy. He was able to channel the life force of a Source Dragon, allowing him to activate the Dragon Cores and consequently end the MergeQuakes.[19][20] Since then, he became closely connected to the Source Dragons, receiving visions from them and being able to contact and communicate with them sometimes. It is also worth noting that he was able to tap into this power for the second time by finding the calm inside him for dragon energy unlike Destruction, which is tapped to through anger.
    • Visions: Due to becoming a conduit, Lloyd experiences visions as a Source Dragon does, although he cannot control these visions on choosing what he wants to see.
    • Ergokinesis: Being empowered by the Source Dragon of Energy granted Lloyd the power to use his Energy.
    • Vivokinesis: Through currently unknown means, Lloyd is able to use Life.
  • Oni heritage: Through his father, Lloyd is part Oni, giving him several abilities.
    • Black Cloud resistance: Due to him having Oni blood in his veins, Lloyd was able to transverse the darkness without becoming petrified.[21]
    • Destruction: With the blood of an Oni in his veins, Lloyd is able to tap into the dark power of Destruction he inherited from his father. It was tapped into during a conflict with Harumi within the Crystal Temple.[22]
      Lloyd using Destruction against

      Lloyd using Destruction against Harumi

    • Oni Form: When overwhelmed by his father's "demise", Lloyd transformed into his Oni Form to combat the newly transformed Overlord. He only reverted to normal upon seeing his reflection in the crystal.[23]
  • Leadership Mastery: When Lloyd was found to be the Green Ninja, he started leading the Ninja in Season 2, protecting them from his father's threats, lead them to the Temple of Light, and preparing them for the Final Battle. As of Season 4, Lloyd continues to take on the role of the leader; he notably managed to convince Kai, Jay and Cole to reunite following Zane's sacrifice. When Master Wu was hit by the Time Punch in Season 7, he shyly suggested that he should lead the Ninja, while Cole, Kai, and Jay doubted his skills, Lloyd understood that being a leader is about resilience and trust. It's these qualities that have helped the Ninja but have also made himself better. Lloyd's resilience has gotten him and the Ninja out of difficult situations as it's prepared them for many dangers, from crimes to cataclysms, and it has united the team time and again, especially when the Merge occurred. His trust has brought hope to many citizens and it's built resistances against evil forces, many people have come together to fight alongside Lloyd and the other Ninja due to this skill, turning enemies into allies: this has lead the Ninja to defeat many villains. When the Merge happened, Lloyd felt a feeling of despair in his leadership skills, as he denied being called a Master, but soon accepted the thought of being a teacher. He soon accepted this during the Tournament of the Sources, coaching the team through their battles, and disrupting the plans of the Forbidden Five.
  • Master Combatant: Initially, Lloyd had no outstanding combat skills, being about as strong as a boy his age with no special training. After his destiny as the Green Ninja was revealed, Lloyd began developing some capability in hand-to-hand combat. Lloyd's skills began advancing more rapidly after the ninja defeated the Great Devourer and secured Dareth's dojo as a training site as he began to tap into his power, as he was able to defeat all the Ninja in sparring, take down large enemies with just a single energy blast, and was even to defeat some of the Stone Army on his own. Over time, Lloyd has shown to defeat many enemies on his own, even when they had more power, Lloyd found a way to gain the upper hand in every fight. His most prominent: was fighting the Overlord, despite having a broken leg he was able to defeat him. Then in Crystallized, Lloyd was able to overpower the Overlord (with the help of Garmadon and Harumi), and in the end, defeat him once more with (Kai, Jay, Cole, and Zane's help). Lloyd was able to fight Morro on his own despite traveling to and from different realms, but Morro took the upper hand. He was able to take out Sky Pirates and fight Nadakhan skillfully despite being an old man but was later defeated. Lloyd went toe-to-toe with Aspheera for the Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu many times, taking the upper hand, but was overpowered each time. He fought off Blizzard Samurai, the Ice Behemoth, and Boreal (in the first half of their fight) alongside Akita during their journey to the Ice Emperor. Later, he held his own in the first half of the fight against the Ice Emperor, despite him being empowered by the Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu. Lloyd was able to escape the Crystal Island on his own and temporarily take out the Crystal Council despite them having the Golden Weapons. Years later after the Merge, Lloyd's skill improved as he trained Arin, Sora, and Riyu in his techniques, fought Ras during the Ritual of the Blood Moon (only by catching him by surprised), mastered Rising Dragon, and helped fight Nokt. During the Tournament of the Sources, Lloyd was proficient in using other Elemental Powers during his own battles and was also able to go toe-to-toe with Nokt despite still being injured during his fight with Zeatrix. He manage to fight off an attacker bot, but was force to use a crate to defeat it. Even when powerless, he managed to briefly fight off Chaos-empowered Wolf warriors, but still struggled to defeat them. He also matched Zarkt in a one-on-one fight but lost against Drix, and later went toe-to-toe against Rox in a mid-air fight, mostly catching her by surprise to overpower her but was defeated when she took him by surprise.
    • Art of the Silent Fist: Under Master Garmadon, Lloyd learned the Art of the Silent Fist. He used it to defeat his reborn father much later on in "Green Destiny."
    • Sword Mastery: As Lloyd's primary weapon is often swords, he is skilled in using many types of blades.
    • Martial Arts: In Dragons Rising, Lloyd developed himself to be a teacher, as he trained 3 students of his own in martial arts. Despite his initial struggles and doubts, he would become a very capable master. The most prominent example of his teaching abilities was with Sora, whom he coached through the battles with Nokt and Cinder, telling her that she has to be herself and despite his inner doubts, his leadership and teaching skills ultimately succeeded.
  • Video games: Lloyd is excellent at video games, beating all of Kai's high scores in Fist to Face 2,[24] and later fought well within Prime Empire.
  • Sewing: On a far lesser note, Lloyd also seems to be somewhat skilled at sewing, assisting his former fellow students in creating several ninja garbs in "Double Trouble."
  • Acting: Lloyd is able to act, albeit poorly, failing to get into the character of a Sky Pirate.[25] However, he was able to act as the Mechanic well enough that none of the Crystal Council detected his deception until he was exposed by Harumi.
  • Stealth: Being a ninja, Lloyd is able to sneak into places without being noticed.
  • Dragon Form: In Dragons Rising Season 4, Lloyd was able to take on a more draconic appearance which granted him more abilities, such as fast flight and the ability to empower the other Ninja after he completed the Ritual of Unrooting.

But after so many years apart, it is a lot of work getting used to being father and son again.

On top of that, Lloyd’s gold ninja power has made him a target of the Digital Overlord and a potential danger to the world.

Lloyd sometimes misses being just a normal boy, but when you’re the golden ninja, it’s hard to just go out and play catch with Dad (you wind up throwing the ball straight through tree trunks).[27]

Tournament of Elements

Lloyd is the son of Lord Garmadon and has been both the powerful Gold Ninja and, most recently, the Green Ninja. He has served heroically alongside the Ninja team, even confronting his own father to save Ninjago.[28]

Possession

Lloyd is the son of Lord Garmadon and has been both the powerful Gold Ninja and, most recently, the Green Ninja. He has served heroically alongside the Ninja team, even confronting his own father to save Ninjago.[29]

Skybound

The loss of his father, Garmadon, hit Lloyd very hard, but after their final meeting Lloyd channeled those feelings and started on a new path. He remains committed to the job that Wu has given them and he’s less and less interested in all the promotional work the ninja are doing. He’s beginning to think they might be taking their eye off the ball…[30]

Rise of the Snakes (Museum)

From unsuccessful super-villain to the Ultimate Spinjitzu Master, Lloyd has traveled the furthest of all the young ninja. The son of Master Garmadon and Misako, he sacrificed his childhood to embrace his destiny, finally becoming the Green Ninja and, for a short while, the all-powerful Golden Ninja. As a Master in training, he is wise beyond his years and, like his Uncle Wu, represents the way of the ninja. Though he is more the quiet type, Lloyd is the natural leader in the group.[31]

As son of Lord Garmadon, it’s hard to follow in his father’s evil footsteps. This young boy will go to comical lengths to prove he is just as bad as his dad. With Wu’s help and the support of the others, Lloyd will learn that living in a parent’s shadow is a choice and you can choose to become anyone you want to be.[32]

Legacy of Green Ninja (Museum)

Now the Green Ninja, Lloyd has turned his back on his father’s dark path. He accepts the importance of hard work and trains with the ninja every day, embracing the motto, "a Ninja Never Quits." But while he grows stronger, he comes to understand that he’s destined to face his father in the ultimate showdown.'[33]

Rebooted (Museum)

Now under the strict tutelage of his father, Garmadon, Lloyd will learn that being the most powerful ninja in all the land isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be. His great powers make him a target for the Digital Overlord and the Nindroids. Before the battle is over, Lloyd learns that his burden is easier to manage if he relies on the strength of his friends.[34]

Tournament of Elements (Museum)

Lloyd knows he has a target on his back and everyone in the tournament is gunning for him – which is why he needs his friends more than ever. He has to control his fears, though it’s difficult for him. Lloyd’s leadership is tested as he fights to keep the team together, and after learning about his father’s dark history, he uses the lessons of the past to guide him.[35]

Possession (Museum)

Lloyd’s grief allows the cursed spirit of Morro to possess him, turning the powerful Green Ninja against his friends. They struggle to free him from Morro’s control and succeed in time for Lloyd to meet his father in the Cursed Realm. There he discovers that he must destroy the realm – and his father – to save the NINJAGO® world. “There comes a time when every boy must become a man,” Garmadon tells Lloyd. “What sort of man, is up to him.”[36][37]

Skybound (Museum)

The loss of his father, Garmadon, hit Lloyd very hard, but after their final meeting Lloyd channeled those feelings and started on a new path. He remains committed to the job that Wu has given them and he’s less and less interested in all the promotional work the ninja are doing. He’s beginning to think they might be taking their eye off the ball… When Lloyd comes to make his wishes he is full of good intentions, but discovers that isn’t enough.[38]

The Hands of Time (Museum)

Lloyd’s ongoing growth as a leader takes on added importance after Wu is knocked out of action by Acronix’s Time Punch. But Lloyd doesn’t have a lot of experience leading, which means he’s going to make mistakes. Also, his friends aren’t quite ready to drop either the “Temporary” or the “in-Training” parts from Lloyd’s “Temporary Master-in-Training” title. But by applying what Wu taught from his sickbed, Lloyd slowly earns the others’ trust and respect. By the time Wu is lost in time aboard the Iron Doom, the ninja are prepared for a new master to lead.[citation needed]

Sons of Garmadon

The son of Master Garmadon and Misako, he sacrificed his childhood to embrace his destiny, finally becoming the Green Ninja. As a Master in training, he is wise beyond his years and, like his Uncle Wu, represents the way of the ninja. Though he is more the quiet type, Lloyd is the natural leader in the group.[39]

2019 (The Legacy of Lloyd)

Did you know Lloyd is the Green Ninja and Master of Energy. From annoying (and highly unsuccessful) super-villain wannabe to the Ultimate Spinjitzu Master, Lloyd has worked harder to unlock his potential than any other young ninja. As the son of Lord Garmadon, odds were against him from a young age. After a rough childhood, he was finally ready to accept his destiny and become the Green Ninja and, for a short while, the all-powerful Golden Ninja. As a Master-in-Training, he is wise beyond his years and, like his Uncle Wu, represents the way of the ninja. Favorite NINJAGO® Legacy weapon Double Katanas = Double combat power! Lloyd – the Elemental Master of Energy!

As the grandson of the First Spinjitzu Master who created the NINJAGO® realm, it was Lloyd’s destiny to become the Green Ninja. However, as a mischievous kid, he nearly took the wrong path in life, trying to be like his evil father Garmadon instead.

It was Lloyd’s wise uncle Wu, brother of Garmadon, who helped him to change his ways. Lloyd reunited with his mother Misako and trained hard to unlock his Golden Powers, becoming the Ultimate Spinjitzu Master and helping the rest of the ninja heroes protect NINJAGO world from Overlord and other enemy threats. The youngest of the ninja team, he has proved himself to be a brave leader who appreciates his friends and believes in the power of teamwork. Wearing his distinctive green ninja outfit, Lloyd minifigures can be found in many LEGO NINJAGO playsets ready for unlimited, exciting role-play adventures.[40]

2020

Though born the son of Master Garmadon, Lloyd chose to follow a different path in life and fulfill his destiny to become the Green ninja and ultimate Spinjitzu master. A wise and inspirational leader.[41]

Master of the Mountain

Due to his past history with princesses (i.e. Princess Harumi), Lloyd find himself suspicious of Princess Vania. He is convinced that she is deceiving the ninja and planning some betrayal. But this time, Lloyd is wrong. Vania is a good princess and a fierce and loyal friend, and Lloyd must come to terms with his own mistrust and let go of his suspicions.[42]

Etymology

Etymology[]

Lloyd's first name is a pun on his father's "Lord" title, while his surname is the same as his father's first name, Garmadon, which is a pun on the word "Armageddon."[45]

In real life, the name Lloyd has Welsh origins and means "gray" or "gray-haired."

Behind the scenes

Behind the scenes[]

  • Lloyd's original concept design was "More nerdy," wearing glasses.[46]
  • Lloyd's original teenage form is almost exactly that as Garmadon's younger form, except his hairpiece is blonde instead of dark brown. Lloyd's child form is almost exactly like Garmadon's Rise of the Snakes flashback child form, with the difference being Lloyd's hair color, which resembles more like child Wu's.
  • Lloyd's elemental symbol is the Chinese character "斗," meaning "fight." The only exception was during his time as the Golden Ninja when his robes donned a different symbol, the medallion that helped the ninja find the Temple of Light.
  • The father-son relationship between Lloyd and his father Garmadon is quite similar to that between Luke Skywalker and Anakin Skywalker.
    • Lloyd and Garmadon also both use Anakin Skywalker's hairpiece, prior to Sons of Garmadon.
  • Jillian Michaels was originally going to be recast when Lloyd got older in "Child's Play," but she convinced them to let her audition to voice the older Lloyd as well.[47]
    • Older Lloyd was more vocally challenging for Michaels.[48]
    • Andrew Francis is credited as "Lloyd Older" in "Wrong Place, Wrong Time," the episode following "Child's Play," even though Francis did not voice a character in the show until 2015. It's possible he was the one selected to replace Michaels and his name was left in the credits by mistake even after she ended up keeping the role.
    • Michaels was eventually replaced by Sam Vincent in Sons of Garmadon. According to Tommy Andreasen, she auditioned for Lloyd in that season as well, but they did not think her voice worked well for an older Lloyd who had a love interest.[49]
  • When Lloyd was the Golden Ninja, his 2013 minifigure had a golden face and thicker eyebrows, but in the show, his face is exactly the same as normal.
    • His Legacy Golden Ninja minifigure has a golden head, but normal eyebrows. However, he comes with a yellow head in 71742 Overlord Dragon.
  • Four of Lloyd's pre-movie face prints

Four of Lloyd's pre-movie face prints

Lloyd's DX variant never appeared in the show, but was released as a minifigure in an exclusive Target gift set, 5004076 Minifigure Gift Set.
    • This minifigure used an exclusive face print that was more accurate to his face in the show than the regular sets. See here for more information.
  • Despite his voice actor being a singer, Sam Vincent confirmed that Lloyd will not be singing.[50]
  • In the original story, it was going to be Lord Garmadon who released the Serpentine and not Lloyd.[51]
  • In the cut scenes of Shadow of Ronin, Lloyd wears his Techno robes with plain bright green sleeves, whereas the actual suit and minifgure is equipped with dark green sleeves.
    • In the icons for Lloyd (Elemental) and Lloyd (ZX), he is incorrectly depicted with what seems to be Cyrus Borg's LEGO face, while in the Lloyd (Jungle) icon he is shown with Cole's eyebrows.
    • Lloyd's child variant holds what seems to be a small wooden sword.
    • Lloyd can also lift things without touching them.
  • He is one of the few male characters to have had a female voice actor at some point, the others being Brad, Gene, Skales Jr., Wu (as a baby), Leroy, Sammy, and Ginkle.
  • It was Bragi Schut's idea to give Lloyd more humorous moments from Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitzu onward.[52]
  • According to Tommy Andreasen, a scrapped idea for Crystalized featured Lloyd in his Oni Form managed to destroy the Overlord, but Garmadon actually dies in that season, which causes him to become lost in his Oni Form and take the throne of the Overlord. However, the Ninja were able to save him.[citation needed]
    • This idea was likely scrapped as Tommy Andreasen wanted to do a happy ending instead of a sad one since he's not going to be involved in the show after Crystalized.
    • Additionally, he also stated that he wanted Lloyd to use Golden Power against the Overlord's Darkness instead of using Destruction because he wanted to put emphasis on the Balance.
    • Andreasen later noted that he had Lloyd defeat the Overlord using the Golden Ultra Dragon instead of in his Oni form because he wanted "emotional impact over the spectacle" and wanted to have a battle where "was carried by the powers of his friends rather than fighting alone".[53]
Trivia

Trivia[]

  • Lloyd was the first character to have his full name spoken in the series, as Wu referred to him as "Lloyd Montgomery Garmadon" in "Never Trust a Snake." Lloyd was called by his full name once more in "Endings," this time by the First Spinjitzu Master. It was also later stated in The Splinter in the Blind Man's Eye and "Ninjago City vs. Ninja."
  • Lloyd is the only one, out of all the ninja, to naturally have more than one elemental power.
  • He is right-handed.[54]
    • Lloyd is shown dual-wielding many times in the show, meaning that he may at least be semi-competent with his left hand.
  • Lloyd's role as a hero is foreshadowed by the small green "5" on the black shirt he wears in his early appearances. The color of the "5" refers to his destiny as the Green Ninja, while the number itself refers to how he will be the fifth member of the ninja team.
  • Before he grew older, the sleeves of his ZX gi were slightly rolled up around his wrists and his pants wrinkled around his heels, indicating the suit was too large for him at the time.
    • This could perhaps have been foreshadowing his accelerated aging in "Child's Play."
  • Initially, Lloyd is a mediocre pilot, as seen when he had to fly the Destiny's Bounty in "All of Nothing" and "The Rise of the Great Devourer." He seems to have improved following his training as the Green Ninja, as he could control the Ultra Dragon and his own Elemental Dragons with ease.
  • Lloyd was kicked out of Darkley's Boarding School foreshadowing the fact that he was perhaps never cut out to be a dark mastermind and hinting at his heroic role in the future.
  • One reason Lloyd was aged up in the episode "Child's Play" was because the product designers wanted to have him on a spinner.[55] However, it is unknown why this was the case when Chokun, another character with short legs, had a spinner.
    • Another reason, according to the Hageman Brothers: "We wanted him to go through some real trials and thought it best if he were older."[56]
  • Lloyd is the official leader of the ninja, succeeding Wu, who led the team before Lloyd's arrival.[57]
    • He most likely took on the role of leader sometime during or after Rebooted, but it was solidified further in later seasons.

  • In Tommy Andreasen's opinion, Wu and Misako have been in a romantic relationship since the Second Serpentine War.[58][59] He has also stated Lloyd most likely would approve of the relationship, as "He was left a long time without a family, and he appreciates what he has and honors lost.[60]
  • He is one of the only mortals to be sent to the Cursed Realm without being cursed himself, and he is the only person to have returned alive.
    • The other is Clouse, though he was reduced to a ghost when he escaped.
  • He has Oni and Dragon blood like his father, uncle, and grandfather, with his human blood coming from his mother.
  • The original four ninja's Elemental Powers are dependent on Lloyd. Meaning that when Lloyd loses his Elemental Power, the other ninja do too. This may be because he shares his Golden Powers with them. However, Tommy Andreasen said that it is possible that as of Sons of Garmadon, this is no longer the case because Lloyd is getting older and his powers are getting stronger and more independent, and that is why after losing his powers in Sons of Garmadon, the other ninja's powers are still working.[61]
  • Tommy Andreasen stated that at this point (after dispersing his Golden Powers), Lloyd is around 20% more powerful than the other ninja.[62][63]
  • Lloyd is the first and only one of Wu's students to achieve the rank of master.
  • He is one of seven current Elemental Masters to have a known last name: the others being Jay, Griffin, Skylor, Zane, Zeatrix, and Frak.
  • He is the only Elemental Master who has a known middle name.
  • Both Lloyd and Garmadon have been possessed by a villain at some point (with Lloyd being possessed by Morro and Garmadon being possessed by the Overlord).
  • Lloyd is the only one of the ninja to met the First Spinjitzu Master.
    • However, he comes to believe that it was merely a dream and forgets about it right after.
  • His greatest fear is becoming like his father, shown in the Mirror of Dread.
    • Ironically, when he a child, becoming like his father was originally his greatest dream.
    • However, he was shown to fear failing Wu in "Beyond the Phantasm Cave" suggesting this might have become his current greatest fear, which would make sense since he figured out in Crystalized that Garmadon had good in him.
  • By unleashing most of the Serpentine tribes and Pythor, who subsequently reawakened the Great Devourer in Rise of the Snakes, Lloyd provoked most events of the series except for the villains' resurrection in "Day of the Departed," the return of the Time Twins, and the events of Season 10 onward.
    • By the destruction caused by the Great Devourer in Season 1, Harumi begun to plot against the ninja, which led to the events of Seasons 8, 9 and 15.
    • The Great Devourer's venom led to the Stone Army being reawakened in Season 2.
    • As Lloyd unwillingly gave away his Golden Power to the Overlord in Season 3, and then giving the rest to the four ninja, the Overlord had his Nindroids go to space for the Golden Weapons in order to become the Golden Master. This ultimately led Zane to sacrifice himself to save Ninjago.
    • When Zane ended up on Chen's Island because of Ronin, the ninja had to participate in the Tournament of Elements to save him in Season 4.
    • By going alone to the Ninjago Museum of History ultimately led to him being possessed by Morro in Season 5, which as a result, caused the Ghost Warriors to be unleashed, and subsequently, the Preeminent.
    • Because Nya flooded the Preeminent using her True Potential, not only did it lead to the death of all of the Cursed Realm's inhabitants, it led to Clouse escaping the realm and unleashing Nadakhan, and as a result of Djinjago's destruction, it led Nadakhan to exact revenge on the ninja in Season 6. It also led to Harumi to form the Sons of Garmadon to resurrect Garmadon in Season 8.
    • Finally, it led to the four original ninja and young Wu ending up in the Realm of Oni and Dragons at the end of Season 8 and throughout Season 9.
  • Lloyd is the only ninja to be part of all 4 Resistances as of Dragons Rising: Season 3.
  • Lloyd's very existence was caused by the Overlord, as it was the latter's influence through the Great Devourer that convinced Garmadon to sign his name on Wu's letter to Misako, thus causing Misako to choose Garmadon.
  • He did not know what a VCR is up until "Would You Like to Enter Prime Empire?"
  • He was likely around 5 years old when Misako dropped him off at Darkley's.[64]
  • It's unclear whether he and Garmadon knew each other before Garmadon was banished to the Underworld, as Garmadon was banished approximately 10 years before Season 1, around the time Lloyd was born, yet in "The Green Ninja", they seem familiar with each other and talk as if they had met before.
  • Lloyd has injured two of his limbs throughout the series. In "Return of the Overlord," he twisted his ankle, and in "Dead Man's Squall," he broke or dislocated his arm.
  • There are a few times in Hunted when Lloyd used Master Garmadon's teachings against the resurrected Lord Garmadon.
    • In "Spellbound," Garmadon told Lloyd that "Chen grows strong by taking from others. But real power does the opposite. It empowers those around you. Like the way you've empowered me." Lloyd used a similar sentiment against Garmadon in "Radio Free Ninjago," where he said that "fighting me may make you feel powerful, but you're about to see what real power is."
    • In "Green Destiny," Garmadon lost his power when Lloyd defeated him by indirectly fighting, as Garmadon is fueled by combat. This is a reference to when Garmadon taught his son the Art of the Silent Fist in the episode of the same name from Rebooted.
  • In "The Mask of Deception," Lloyd briefly watched Harumi in her room, which goes against "Only One Can Remain," in which Kai and Jay spied on Skylor in her room and Lloyd called it an invasion of privacy. He later invaded on Wyldfyre and Roby's romantic moment before being dragged away by Sora in "Elements of Betrayal."
  • Lloyd is currently the only character who controls the element of Energy from his own.
  • In his original Character Card and in a video on LEGO's YouTube channel[65], Lloyd's dominant element is listed as Lightning, though according to Tommy Andreasen, this is not canon to the TV series.[66] However, Lloyd was shown using the Nunchucks of Lightning in Zane's dream in "Never Trust a Snake," and the Golden Weapons made green lightning when they revealed that he was the Green Ninja.
    • This supposed connection parallels Lord Garmadon, Lloyd's father, whose Destruction is represented as lightning on the cards, a strike of lightning appeared when he was banished to the Underworld, and was shown to be able to generate lightning in "The Green Ninja."
  • Lloyd's Rebooted description may be a reference to the supplementary comic Night of the Nindroids, in which Lloyd really does throw a ball through a tree trunk.
  • Lloyd always appears with the Oni Mask of Hatred in the Sons of Garmadon sets.
  • Lloyd's green eyes from Sons of Garmadon onward are connected to his powers, as his eyes become black when he loses them. This was originally hinted at in the first chapter of Way of the Departed, where Cole says "Lloyd’s eyes have started changing after Master Wu went missing. He trains alone so intensely, and he is really connecting with his powers ... whatever it is."
    • Tommy Andreasen also said, "Strange things happen to your body when you hit puberty. I guess that’s especially true for an Elemental Master."[67]
  • In The Splinter in the Blind Man's Eye, Lloyd says that the worst thing that he experienced (as of Season 10) was being possessed by Morro, seeing into his mind and harming innocent people. However, it is considered as "could-be canon" as mentioned by co-creator Tommy Andreasen.
  • Lloyd has blond hair while both his parents have brown hair, which is a common real-life phenomenon. Due to recessive genes, children can inherit hair colors from their grandparents, and Wu also being blond would mean the gene is at least on Lloyd's paternal side. According to Tommy Andreasen, however, this isn't meant to be thought hard about considering the show's many fantasy elements.[68]
  • Similar to Kai and P.I.X.A.L., Lloyd has had his appearance used in non-Ninjago sets.
  • The Lloyd t-shirt torso from 40429 Ninjago World was later featured in 60291 Family House, a non-Ninjago set.
  • When asked if, despite his change in appearance, Lloyd would eventually look like his older self seen in Skybound when he became older, Tommy Andreasen said, "You will have to wait and see."[69]
  • In "Unsinkable," Lloyd is revealed to like mint-flavored candy. It also reveals that Lloyd's love of candy from "Rise of the Snakes" still exists.
  • According to the Character Encyclopedia New Edition, Lloyd's camouflage in The Island is made of mud and plants.
  • According to Mark Oliver in an interview with Brent Miller, if Lloyd had a sister, he would name her Vulgaria.[70]
  • When asked whether Lloyd has reached his full potential, Andreasen stated that "Lloyd’s potential is … complicated."[71]
  • Lloyd is comparable to Luke Skywalker from Star Wars, as both start out in the series as naive and immature, but develop over the course of their respective journeys (becoming a ninja for Lloyd and becoming a Jedi for Luke) and are well skilled with bladed weapons and supernatural powers by the end of their on-screen adventures. Both share similar physical traits, and both also share fathers who were corrupted by evil, but both of them redeemed themselves in the end, the only difference being that Garmadon lived while Darth Vader ultimately sacrificed himself to save his son as his form of redemption.
    • Lloyd is also comparable to Naruto Uzumaki from Naruto. Both start off as mischievous and bratty kids who were both raised without any parents and wanted to be like their fathers (Minato Namikaze for Naruto and Garmadon for Lloyd), who both are born from powerful families (the Uzumaki clan for Naruto and the First Spinjitzu Master's lineage for Lloyd), and later developed over time to become powerful ninja destined to protect their respective worlds from powerful evil forces (the Overlord for Lloyd and Kaguya Ōtsutsuki for Naruto). The only difference is that Lloyd stared off wanting to be evil and didn't want to be a ninja while Naruto wasn't evil and wanted to be the Hokage (the strongest ninja). Both are/were voiced by women (Junko Takeuchi (japanese) and Maile Flanagan (english) for Naruto and Jillian Michaels for Lloyd), with the only difference being that Jillian Michaels was replaced by Sam Vincent in Season 8 onward while Junko Takeuchi still voices Naruto to this day.
    • Lloyd is also comparable to Link/The Hero of Time from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Both were raised without any parents, they both wear green clothing, have blonde hair, and had to give up and miss out on their childhoods as destined heroes to protect their respective worlds from powerful evil forces (the Overlord for Lloyd and Ganondorf for Link). The only difference is that Link got to relive his childhood after being sent back in time by Zelda.
    • Lloyd is also comparable to Tommy Oliver, the Green Ranger from the Power Rangers franchise. Both share the color green as their designated color and started off as antagonists for the heroes (Tommy for the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Lloyd for the Ninjas). The difference is that Tommy got brainwashed by Rita Repulsa to become her servant to destroy the Power Rangers while Lloyd chose to be evil voluntary first and Tommy was a major threat to the Power Rangers while Lloyd was a rather minor threat for the Ninjas. Both Tommy and Lloyd switched sides to fight side by side with their new teammates. The other difference here is that Tommy got freed from Rita's spell after Jason Lee Scott, the Red Ranger, destroyed the Sword of Darkness and Lloyd just only got convinced. Both also had multiple colors during their series and became leaders and mentors of their teams (Lloyd was both the Green and the Golden Ninja, while Tommy became the Green Mighty and White Mighty Morphin Rangers, the Red Zeo and first Red Turbo Ranger, and the Black Dino Thunder Ranger).
  • Lloyd also shares similarities with Jim Lake Jr., as both were chosen at a young age to become heroes and protect worlds/realms (the Realms of Creation for Lloyd and both the humans and trolls for Jim), grew up without their father and have complicated feelings towards them, serve as the leader of their team (the Ninjas for Lloyd and the Trollhunter team for Jim), both of their mother became aware of their duty and helped them in their adventures, both of them made a sacrifice which included betraying their teams (locking away his friends while going after Garmadon alone for Lloyd and stopping his friends from preventing him to go into the Darklands all by himself to rescue Claire's little brother and kill Gunmar for Jim). Moreover, both of their greatest fears are to lose their humanity, which happened at some point (when Lloyd unlocked his Oni form, he briefly lost control of himself, and Jim was corrupted into a beastly troll by the Green Knight after pulling the Onyx shard further into his heart to buy his friends time to escape). They were both also possessed/controlled and forced to fight their friends against their will but in the end, were rescued by their friends. Both of them were also killed and almost instantly brought back to life by their loved ones.
    • Lloyd shares similarities with yet another character from the "Tales of Arcadia" franchise, Draal the Deadly. Both of them had a complicated and distant relationship with their father but later managed to fix it. Both of them were possessed by a main antagonist (Morro for Lloyd and Gunmar for Draal) for nearly an entire season and eventually freed from their possessor and expressed deep shame and guilt for harming their allies and friends even though it wasn't their fault. Both of them broke free from their possesson inside a cave/tomb of an ancient being (the First Spinjitzu Master for Lloyd and Merlin for Draal) and ironically, the Tomb of the First Spinjitzu Master is very similar to the Geode Caverns. Unfortuneatly, the difference is that while the Ninja were able to rescue Lloyd, Draal sacrificed himself to protect Jim from Gunmar and Angor Rot.
  • Lloyd often picks his nose and eats the boogers.[72] The worm uses present tense, and it is never denied he still does it.
  • In "Chaos Unchained", it is implied that his Dojo hood is permanently stained due to years of remaining unwashed or still has not been washed to this day.
  • It has never been explicitly stated that Lloyd possesses the elemental essence of Creation, yet he has dragon blood and had inherited the power of Destruction from his father and once held the might of Golden Power.
    • In the past, Lloyd had the abilities to use the four elements of creation,[1] which can be combined to make the power of Creation, perhaps indicating that he used Creation.
  • In "Dragon Form", the Overlord stated that he and Garmadon's powers were a gift from him, implying that Lloyd's Oni powers were enhanced by Darkness, albeit through the Great Devourer's venom as he inherited that from his father. However, it is unclear if the venom has an effect on Lloyd.
  • According to Chris "Doc" Wyatt, Lloyd might tap into his Ultimate Spinjitzu Master form in the future.[73]
  • Lloyd's Ultimate Spinjitzu Master form is more powerful than the powers granted to him as a Source Dragon conduit.[74]
  • According to Tommy Andreasen, Lloyd would've destroyed the Overlord[75] and end up being lost in the darkness of his Oni side forever if he hadn’t found empathy in himself.[76]
  • Lloyd is the only ninja whose both of their parents performed Spinjitzu.
  • When asked if Lloyd will outlive the other ninja Chris "Doc" Wyatt, stated "We don't know whether Lloyd's natural lifespan would take after his mother's or his father's, but let's be honest-- with the kind of dangerous life he leads, is his natural lifespan the main issue?".[77]
  • Chris "Doc" Wyatt revealed that Lloyd isn't currently the strongest Elemental Master in the Merged Lands.[78]
  • Despite dying in "The Shatter Dragon," Lloyd's soul did not move on to the Spectral Lands but instead stayed in Thunderfang's possession until the latter was killed by Arin, releasing his and the Oni's souls.
  • According to Chris "Doc" Wyatt, Lloyd does keep in contact with the relatives on his mother's side, but he has one cousin that he wishes would stop contacting him.[4]
