The Mysterious Pyramid

All the villains in Ninjago City have been defeated, and now Master Wu's students are left with nothing to do. But to become true Spinjitzu masters, they must constantly train and remain vigilant. That's why the city's heroes, hearing about the pyramid's discovery on television, head into the desert. After all, only the Ninja can bypass all the traps and discover the secrets of the distant past hidden within.

Plot[]

Are you ready for a new mission?[]

The ninja spend their days playing video games instead of training. When Wu scolds them for this, the team decides to take on a dangerous mission to get back into shape, but they can't find a suitable one. Eventually, they see a report on TV by Gail Gossip, interviewing Clutch Powers, who has discovered a mysterious pyramid in the desert. The ninja quickly board the Earth's Gift and race to the pyramid.

On the way to the pyramid, the heroes encounter Bernie. However, escaping the giant bug isn't the end of their troubles: Cole uses up all his sunscreen, Jay loses his headrest, and Nya spots a strange cactus rushing straight at them through the window. Zane explains that it's the extremely dangerous Doom Cactus, just as the creature punctures the tires of the mobile base. The heroes rush into battle, but quickly realize their powers are ineffective against the monster. Zane's ice melts quickly, Kai's fire doesn't harm the cactus, Nya can't collect a drop of water, and Jay simply falls asleep during the attack.

Despairing, the ninja huddle together, awaiting the inevitable end, but it all ends abruptly. The wind dies down and the cactus falls to the sand: it turns out it was an ordinary plant caught in a whirlwind. The heroes realize they've just lost to the cactus and that Wu was right. The ninja are out of shape and can't explore the pyramid without help. But luckily for them, an expert is waiting right there, and they just need to convince him to join them inside.

How to Convince Clutch Powers[]

Having reached the pyramid, the ninja find Clutch in a tent. They try to persuade him to go inside, claiming there may be treasure or historical relics there, but the professor flatly refuses. No amount of persuasion works, and the heroes step aside to discuss their next course of action. Suddenly, Lloyd receives a call from Misako, and the Green Ninja leaves his friends to answer it. He explains to his mother that the team is at the pyramid and that Clutch refuses to help them. Misako asks him to wait and reports everything to the Explorers Club. When Lloyd returns to the tent, the professor is already standing with the phone in hand and learns that he will be expelled from the club because he refused to explore the pyramid they discovered. After hanging up, Clutch informs the heroes that he will help them after all.

Trap Training Course[]

While the six ninja are examining a mysterious pyramid, Clutch orders Dwayne to set up an obstacle course with traps nearby. The archaeologist then forces the heroes to navigate it, as the ancient structure is dangerous to enter without preparation. When Clutch shows the ninja a dilapidated suspension bridge, the plank beneath his feet collapses, and he decides to skip that part, but the heroes somehow find themselves on the other side and eagerly await the next challenge. Just as they reach them, Clutch introduces the next trap—a dark, dusty corridor. He shows them they must navigate it at a leisurely pace, ignoring the dirt and cobwebs. Zane warns that a black widow is now on his back, and the professor begins jumping in panic to shake off the venomous spider. Zane then laughs and says he mistook a scorpion for a spider. Professor Powers decides that no one else will enter the corridor and leads the team to the next trap: a staircase. Although he himself wants to walk slowly up the steps to avoid exhaustion, the ninja quickly climb up, ignoring him. The explorer realizes that the heroes are even more prepared than he is and allows them to enter the pyramid.

Trivia[]

• The first story in the book is a brief summary of the events of the episodes "Wasted True Potential," "Questing for Quests," "A Rocky Start," and "The Belly of the Beast." The final section reveals new details about how the heroes reached the pyramid after their encounter with Beohernie. The second and third stories take place during the episode "Boobytraps and How to Survive Them": "How to Convince Clutch Powers" retells and expands on the scenes in the tent, where the heroes try to convince the professor to help them, and "Trap Training Course" takes place immediately before the group enters the pyramid.
• According to the book, Clutch Powers received the call in "Boobytraps and How to Survive Them" because Misako learned from Lloyd that the professor didn't want to explore the pyramid and alerted the Explorer's Club.
