Prior to Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitzu[]
At some point in Ninjago's history, the Sybex Tribe had artifacts that included the chest vortex.
Sometime later, an archaeologist of the Explorer's Club found the relic and placed it in the Club's collection.
The Explorers Club[]
While Lloyd, Nya, and Zane were searching for the second Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu, Lloyd knocked down the chest vortex causing it to activate and suck in artifacts. Eventually, Lloyd stopped this mysterious object by placing a glass cube over it.

When operational, the chest vortex has the power to swallow objects as big as a stuffed chicken. However, it can be shut down if an individual places any object over the chest vortex covering it up.

- According to Tommy Andreasen, it is possible that while Ghost Butler Ducklesworth mentioned in "Unsinkable" was real and alive, his body was sucked into the chest vortex but his spirit remained.[1]
