History

History[]

Background[]

The Edo period truly began as Edo magic developed in southern parts of Ninjago, where sorcerers there started utilizing the power it could grant them. However, the magic style was largely unstable, and had to be drawn upon and focused by its users. To achieve this, they developed a new architectural style that would come to be known as Edo architecture, which featured large towers and spires. These structures helped concentrate the power of the earth so that Edo magic could be easier drawn upon by its sorcerers.

However, Edo magic remained unstable in nature. While it was easy to use, it often proved to be unpredictable and disruptive. These characteristics of Edo magic eventually led to the destruction of its users, and therefore its own teachings. Due to this, very little information of the time period persisted to modern day, with it being evident only in Edo architecture and relics.

Way of the Departed[]

Edo era practices started making a resurgence as Nom began renovating its structures with Edo architecture. Edo relics from old Edo period towns were used in the renovations. However, this was all in line with the master plan of Clouse, who intended for a buildup of Edo relics in one location to increase the amount of Edo magic present in Nom. He plotted to wield this magic, along with the presence of Cole, to open the scar on Cole's forehead due to its hidden nature as a rift to the Departed Realm. This would enable deceased Edo sorcerers and their acolytes to return to Ninjago by possessing the bodies of Nom's citizens.
