The crabbed beast is a creature from the Land of Monsters that had attacked the Crossroads during a MergeQuake.

One Ninja Alone...? (non-canon)[]
In the first few days following The Merge, a Crabbed Beast emerged from one of the first MergeQuakes, materializing within the Crossroads. The creature's presence created a disturbance, causing the local populace to flee and attracting the attention of Rapton, who was startled by its appearance. The creature was ultimately forced back through its rift by Lloyd, who then sealed up the MergeQuake behind the creature.

- ↑ It's design and role in the story is heavily based on the tentacled beasts from "Writers of Destiny," and with an official confirmation being unlikely to happen, due to the writers' lack of involvement in the Ninjago Magazine, it is safe to conclude that it originates from the same realm as the beasts.
