Monstrosity[]
To Become a Monster[]
Following The Merge, Kai found himself stranded in the Land of Monsters. In order to simply survive, he had to fight his way through hordes of monsters or use his wits to outsmart and evade them. One day, he witnessed a battle taking place between Daidan and a Daidarabotchi, and after watching the former attempt to destroy one of the latter's eggs, Kai intervened on behalf of the colossal monster.
Fallen Master[]
After his journey led him to the Cave of Change, Kai fought against the Fire Master, now long transformed into part of the centipede monster himself. Although the transformed Fire Master was able to defeat Kai and imprison him within a cocoon, Kai managed to escape and with the help of the Fire Master's former mech and companion, Rusty, he slew the Fire Master.
False Light[]
Many days of rough wandering later, Kai had begun to all but lose hope of ever escaping. As he sat along the shorelines of a large lake, Kai was entranced by the illusions generated by the Gimon-Ogu. Although he and Daidan, who had spotted Kai and arrived to rescue him, waded deeper into the lake under the monster's enthrall, Rusty was not deceived. In response to Rusty's resistance, the monster simply began to attack him with its tentacles, succeeding in as far as bringing the sentient mech into its gaping jaws. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a mistake, as Rusty triggered his self-destruct mechanism, greatly wounding the sea monster and dropping its illusions. Although greatly injured, the monster was determined nevertheless not to lose its potential prey, managing to ensnare Daidan with its tentacles as she and Kai escaped to the surface. The sea monster, however, would be slain only moments later by Kai.
Kai's Monstrous Journey[]
The Forest of Teeth! (flashback)[]
Daidan and Kai were attacked by a horde of Jungle insects as they soared in the skies above the Forest of Teeth. After crashing into the forest below, Kai encountered an adolescent jungle insect named Fuzz and saved his life after noticing the latter was being attacked by the living forest. In gratitude, Fuzz hopped on Kai's back and empowered him to effortlessly cut through the living forest.
The Ruins! (flashback)[]
Traveling through the Forest of Teeth, Kai and his allies encountered the Monster pig. After a much one-sided battle, Kai managed to fell the beast with a powerup from Fuzz and assistance from Bolsen, a bounty hunter who was also trapped in the Land of Monsters. As they fought however, a horde of jungle insects descended upon Daidan and captured her, flying her to the home of their queen atop a nearby mountain.
Queen of Monsters! (flashback)[]
With Daidan brought before her, the Queen of Monsters began to feed on the dragon's life force. Her feast would be interrupted however, by the arrival of Kai and Bolsen, who had ascended the mountain to rescue their friend. Undeterred, the Queen exerted her enthrall over Bolsen and commanded him to protect her from Kai's attacks while Fuzz commanded Kai and empowered him into defeating Bolsen. Impressed with Kai's strength, the Queen agreed with her son that Kai would serve better as her enforcer than Bolsen, allowing the bounty hunter to snap out of the Queen's enthrall. After Kai ripped Fuzz off of his back, Bolsen whispered to Kai the location of the Queen's weak spot and together, the two rushed forward to attack and slay the Queen of Monsters. With her death, Fuzz claimed that he too was just an enthralled servant of his mother's and fled deeper into the jungle to escape the wrath of the two travelers.
