William Toughbutt, who was surprised and disgusted to see the ninja put on trial, presided their case, noting them breaking Aspheera out of Kryptarium Prison and stealing her staff. Their lawyer, Dareth, then made a speech about the many times the ninja saved Ninjago City, which was enough for William Toughbutt to not sentence them to life imprisonment and instead gave them a five-year sentence, leading to a protest by the many witnesses in the courtroom, as well as ignoring Dareth's pleas for community service.
