History
History[]
Prior to Wu and Garmadon's journey[]
At one point in time, the medallion was created in Djinjago for unknown reasons. One day, a Djinn chariot carrying the medallion made its way into Ninjago and crashed into a traveling puppet stand, destroying it entirely. The proprietor of the stand, a human named Tanabrax, collected the medallion, having decided that it would serve as payment for the loss of his stand. However, the powers of the medallion slowly corrupted Tanabrax, who became increasingly obsessed over it and its dark powers, spending every moment to learn about the medallion and to find a way to harness its powers.
After fully understanding and learning all he could about the medallion, Tanabrax tested its abilities on a pair of petty thieves, transforming them into his first Puppets. Over the years, the medallion would further twist and corrupt Tanabrax, transforming him into a monstrous, living shadow and forcing him to relocate underground. Undeterred, Tanabrax would continue to use his medallion to transform countless villagers into puppets, all enslaved under his will as he plotted to conquer Ninjago.
The Lair of Tanabrax (flashback)[]
Tanabrax continued to wear the medallion when he was confronted by the Sons of the First Spinjitzu Master, who had learned that people in the village they had been staying at had been mysteriously disappearing. In his first confrontation with the brothers, Tanabrax managed to use the medallion's powers to steal Wu's soul and transform him into a puppet.
Later, Garmadon returned to Tanabrax's lair to rescue his brother and the other transformed villagers, removing the medallion from Tanabrax in the ensuing struggle. Once Tanabrax was no more, Garmadon managed to use the medallion's powers to reverse the effect's of Tanabrax's spell, restoring the puppets to their original bodies. Afterwards, the medallion was given to Obachan, who sealed it away in a vase and buried it deep below the ground, believing that no one would ever find it again.
