Comic (English name needed)[]
In the initial moments of the Oni's invasion, the Ninja were provided with a new Destiny's Bounty, courtesy of the mayor, to combat the growing Oni cloud. As they set sail, Jay noted they had Rufus McCallister to thank for keeping a copy of the ship's blueprints. Nya, who was steering the ship, asked for Cole to handle communications, noting that more distress signals were coming in by the minute and it would take them a while to reach the police station. As Cole fielded the first call from traffic control, he was asked to "Ask Cole to slow down with his Earth Driller," leading the Ninja of Earth to realize that someone had stolen his drill. In response, Zane called in remotely for his bike, stressing that they could find out who had stolen Cole's drill faster on it than on Destiny's Bounty.
As the pair sped off in search of the drill, they noticed that the Oni cloud was spreading faster than before, with Cole noting that he would rather not get close to the tendrils of darkness that were emerging from the cloud. Rounding a corner on the freeway, the two spotted the drill below, heading towards a storefront. As they approached the drill, the driver declared over the intercom that he had come to save everyone and would provide a safe route out of the building. With that, the driver drilled a massive hole right through the store walls as Cole and Zane watched on, completely befuddled.
While the storekeeper cried about the massive hole in his store and patrons fled, the mystery driver sped off in another direction with Cole and Zane in hot pursuit. With Zane stepping on the gas, they were able to pull up side by side to the drill, discovering that the driver was none other than Rufus McCallister himself! Although Cole tried to shout for him to stop driving, McCallister was unable to hear Cole over the loud rumblings of the drill; to make matters worse, his mind was elsewhere and was busy thinking about how he could be a real superhero with the drill.
Continuing along his way, McCallister spotted a school bus stranded atop an overpass with the tendrils of darkness inching their way ever closer to the vehicle. Desperate to save any possible students, McCallister drilled through one of the support beams, bringing down the bus and also dropping debris that struck Cole in the head as he and Zane made their approach. Concerned with the continued spreading however, of the tendrils, McCallister decided to confront them head on with the power of the Earth Driller, shocking Cole and Zane who derided his decision as foolhardy. As McCallister attacked the tendrils with the drill, he discovered to his surprise that not only did it have no effect, but the mass of darkness seemed almost alive, lifting the driller up and hurling it away! As the two ninja watched McCallister's fall, Zane attempted to attack the cloud with his bike's blades, but to no avail as well.
Left with no other options, Zane deployed the Falcon drone from his bike, sending off Cole to rescue McCallister as the cloud continued to close in around them. Piloting the drone, Cole swooped in and rescued McCallister as the cloud closed in around the drill. While flying back towards Destiny's Bounty, McCallister expressed his wonderment over Zane's drone and began asking Cole if there were any blueprints or anything he could look at. Cole refused however, citing the former's theft and joyride with his drill. In response, McCallister remarked that Cole's drill was not really a suitable collectable, as it was used, leaving the Earth Ninja absent for words aside from letting out an exasperated sigh.
Trivia
Trivia[]
- The comic takes place during "The Darkness Comes".
- In the comic, Rufus McCallister was able to steal Cole's Earth Driller and tried to use it against the Oni cloud. However, it is directly shown in the episode that the Earth Driller works like a regular car and can be used only with the car keys. Since the car keys definitely belonged to Cole at that time, Rufus wouldn't be able to use the vehicle. As such, this comic is considered non-canon.
