Day of the Departed[]
On the Day of the Departed, the Ninja rushed to the Ninjago Museum of History's gift shop to procure lanterns to commemorate the holiday and to remember those they have lost. With lanterns in hand, the Ninja were given an early tour of the museum's upcoming Hall of Villainy exhibit by the museum's curator, Dr. Saunders. Following the tour, the Ninja all went their separate ways with their lanterns to commemorate the holiday.
After going their separate ways to settle their debts, Lloyd and his mother, Misako, lit their lantern inside the Corridor of Elders, watching as it rose past the statue of Garmadon, Lloyd's late father and Misako's late husband. Elsewhere, Kai and Nya brought their lantern to their old blacksmith shop in Ignacia, lighting it in remembrance of their parents. Zane brought his lantern to Birchwood Forest, the place of his creation, where he constructed a snow sculpture of his late father, Dr. Julien, and placed his lantern in the sculpture's hand before coating it with ice. Meanwhile, Jay brought his lantern to Ed & Edna's Scrap N Junk where he spent time with his adoptive parents while Wu sat in the ruins of the Monastery of Spinjitzu beside his lantern and a photograph of his father. As for Cole, he instead chose to pursue vengeance against Master Yang, leaving his father behind to light a lantern for his deceased mother alone. As a result of Cole's meddling however, the spirits of the Ninja's deceased foes were able to return from the Departed Realm, making their way to their respective plastic statutes in the Hall of Villainy to possess, turning all of Ninjago City's lanterns a sickly green, briefly affecting all lanterns across Ninjago as well.
After the Ninja defeated their old enemies and with the passing of the Yin-Yang Eclipse, the Ninja and their families released lanterns into the air from the now restored Temple of Airjitzu.
