A Question of Technique

A Question of Technique[]

As Unagami begins his invasion of Ninjago City, Jay had managed to follow him out of Prime Empire and now reunites with his allies. Wu briefs Jay on their plan to lure Unagami to Borg Tower in hopes that Milton Dyer would be able to reason with him there. Acknowledging that it would be up to him to lure Unagami to the tower, Jay flies off on the Blue Dragon while the others begin to make their way to the tower on foot.

As Wu's group make their way through the city, they encounter a group of civilians fleeing from a pack of Whack Rats. Working together, Zane and Wu intervene and easily dispatch the NPCs before urging the civilians to evacuate the city. When the group are but a few blocks away from Borg Tower, they encounter a platoon of Red Visors, instigating a second battle that would be prematurely ended when Unagami and Jay's clash spills over into the streets, crushing the Red Visors.

Not long afterwards, Wu's group ran into the Police Commissioner, who provided an update on the police's efforts at containing Unagami's army. During the conversation, the Commissioner admitted that he and his officers were outclassed by the Red Visors just as another squadron marched towards them. At that moment, Rufus McCallister arrived and proclaimed that reinforcements have arrived! Introducing himself and his fellow gamers as "Champions of Prime Empire," McCallister explained that the police's efforts at dealing with the Red Visors have been ineffective because they were treating them like real opponents and not video game characters. As McCallister explained, in order to defeat technological creatures such as the Red Visors, one had to fight them with magnets, much to the Commissioner's disbelief.

In spite of the officers' skepticism, McCallister's claims of using magnets against the Red Visors surprisingly worked! Unfortunately, the Visors too were soon backed up by more of their fellows, this time equipped with jetpacks to more easily maneuver and overwhelm the ground based officers and gamers. As the tide began to turn, the Commissioner asked McCallister what they should do next, though the latter sheepishly admitted that he could never beat the airborne Visors before, prompting the Commissioner to order a retreat. Wu then stepped forward and murmured to himself that it was now time to test ancient wisdom against gamer techniques. Ripping into a Spinjitzu tornado, Wu rushed ahead and effortlessly destroyed all of the Red Visors, eliciting praise and surprise from all who were gathered.

With the path now cleared, Wu and his group made their way up the steps to Borg Tower as Jay and Unagami's battle in the skies drew ever closer.

Trivia[]

  • The events of the comic take place during "Game Over."
  • NPCs crumble into pixels after their defeat in the comic, which seemingly contradicts Tommy Andreasen's statements that their code was reassembled into genetic material upon entering the real world, meaning that they should no longer disintegrate.[1]
