The Brown Ninja never surrenders!
The Brown Ninja never surrenders![]
Shortly after the Ninja's escape from Kryptarium Prison, they find themselves engaged in battle against the Sky Pirates across Ninjago City. Elsewhere, Dareth is arguing with a news producer, begging her for an opportunity to put the ninja back on television - a request she vehemently refuses. Although the producer is cordial at first, pointing out that the ninja had just escaped from prison and had since lost their popularity, she soon loses her temper when Dareth addresses her as "Miss News," prompting her to kick him out of the studio.
Determined nevertheless to restore the ninja to celebrity status, Dareth calls up Jay to ask where he and the other ninja were and to call off their squabble with the "genie." Jay remains on call with Dareth, trying to explain their situation while fending off attacks from Bucko, informing Dareth that Zane had already been captured by Nadakhan's Djinn Blade. Unimpressed with Jay's responses, Dareth hangs up and produces his ninja hood, declaring it was time once more for him to don the mantle of the Brown Ninja!
As the Brown Ninja, Dareth quickly got to work fixing the ninja's reputation by setting up a hawker stand selling Ninja action figures. Unfortunately, the citizens of Ninjago had either grown disdainful of the ninja or laughed off Dareth for continuing to be a supporter, and over time, Dareth found himself losing hope. After several hours and marking down the action figures to being free, Flintlocke arrived at Dareth's stall and offered to purchase all of the remaining action figures. This cheered up the Brown Ninja for a moment, at least until Flintlocke explained that he intended to use the figures as target practice and also that he had swindled Dareth by paying him with pebbles.
Sometime later, Dareth began to try a new approach, by plastering posters depicting himself and the ninja together. Mere seconds after placing his first poster, however, the ground shook and the parcel of land was torn from the ground, rising into the sky to join Nadakhan's reconstruction of Djinjago. As the landmass rose into the sky, Dogshank and Flintlocke spotted the poster and wondered if there was a new member of the ninja now. For his part, Flintlocke immediately recognized the Brown Ninja as being the same man who sold him the action figures earlier, and Nadakhan dispatched both pirates to capture Dareth, intent on adding the Brown Ninja's powers to the Djinn Blade.
Back on the ground of Ninjago, Dareth found himself confronted by the two Sky Pirates, whom he initially mistook as fans of the ninja. When the pair made known their intention of capturing him however, Dareth began to run in panic, but tripped over his shoelaces just as Dogshank the pirates were about to ram into him. Perplexed by the Brown Ninja's reflexes, Dogshank hurled her anchor, only for him to effortlessly dodge the attack while tying his shoelaces! Once his laces were tied, Dareth ran to hide in a portable restroom, but was almost immediately confronted by Dogshank and Flintlocke, who were growing tired of chasing him. Before they could capture Dareth, however, the ninja intervened on his behalf to rescue their friend. While Nya and Lloyd fought Dogshank, Dareth accidentally knocked Flintlocke to the ground while exclaiming his joy at seeing his friends again.
Outnumbered and overpowered, Dogshank and Flintlocke retreat and Dareth decides to treat the ninja at a nearby cafe, during which the ninja explain to him their current conflict with the Sky Pirates. At the end of the ninja's story, Dareth boastfully declared that if he knew the pirates were villains this whole time, he could have easily taken them! After all, he declared while leaping onto the table, "The Brown Ninja never surrenders!"

Trivia[]
- The comic presumably takes place between "My Dinner With Nadakhan" and "Wishmasters", as Zane was already captured and the ninja already escaped from the Tiger Widow Island. However, Jay is still shown in the team, despite being captured by the Sky Pirates at the time. As such, the comic is considered non-canon.
- Although the cover claims there are 4 posters included in the magazine, there are actually only 3 posters unless one counts the list of Series 1 Trading Cards as the 4th poster.
