Overview
The following is a list of all the themes and soundtracks introduced in the pilot episodes of Ninjago.
Ninjago Main Theme / The Overture
Ninjago Main Theme / The Overture[]
The Overture is often played with a flute, and has had various renditions with horns, strings and other instruments. It serves as the most iconic and reprised theme in the series. The overture also serves as the theme for the Ninja in general, as only Lloyd, Nya, and Zane have individual themes.
The overture played in a small bit in "Built to Protect"
Triumphant renditions of the theme have been played during action scenes, while more mournful, sad versions have been played in tracks such as "Built to Protect" in Rebooted. Other tracks featuring versions of the theme include "Reforging The Golden Weapons" and "Tornado Of Re-Creation" from March of the Oni. The theme has appeared countless times from the pilot episodes up to season nine, and different versions of the theme appear at the end of the opening sequences of most seasons.
Skulkin theme
Skulkin theme[]
The Skulkin theme represents Samukai and the rest of the Skulkin. The Skulkin theme is often played using rock guitars, giving the army a mysterious and evil vibe. The theme wasn't used much beyond the pilot episodes, although it was reprised in the track "The Tinkerer's Story" in "Tick Tock" and later in "Day of the Departed" when Samukai was resurrected.
Kruncha and Nuckal's theme
Training Course
Training Course[]
This track is used when Kai first trains at the monastery in "Way of the Ninja." It was later played in "Green and Gold" when Lloyd overpowered the Venomari, "Wasted True Potential" when Wu fought the ninja at the monastery, and in "A Lesson in Anger" when Lloyd attempted to unlock his Oni Form.
Lord Garmadon's theme
Lord Garmadon's theme[]
Lord Garmadon's theme serves as one of two themes for Garmadon; it is often played through strings. The theme was reprised numerous times throughout the series. Garmadon's leitmotif is shorter than other themes, and evokes an evil and sinister vibe for the King of Shadows.
The theme was frequently reprised in Sons of Garmadon, which focused on Lord Garmadon's resurrection. The main notes of the theme were used as the basis for the Sons of Garmadons' theme, which is essentially a more fast-paced variant of Lord Garmadon's theme. "Garmadon's True Potential" exemplifies the use of the theme in season eight.
Wu's theme
Wu's theme[]
Sensei Wu's theme often played with a flute, and invokes an ancient and peaceful vibe. The theme has been reprised many times throughout the series, often in the presence of Wu. Tracks that Wu's theme include "Torchfire Mountain" and "The Golden Peaks".
Wu's theme from "Saving Faith" in Hunted, when he gets his memories back
In Sons of Garmadon and Hunted, Wu's theme was expanded upon with more notes. The theme received more triumphant renditions such as when Wu regained his memories, and when he first rides Firstbourne without using chains. The theme was brought back in Crystalized, with a similar rendition when Wu faced the Overlord.
The Dragons' theme
The Dragons' theme[]
The Dragons' theme serves as the theme for the ninjas' Dragons including Ultra Dragon. It has been reprised numerous times through the series, mostly in seasons one and two. The theme is a more majestic and triumphant motif, and is often played with horns. The climaxes of tracks such as "Dragon Ride" and "Return of the Dragons" exemplify the dragons' theme.
The Dragons' theme in Season 9
A new version of the Dragons' theme was reprised in Season 9, which focused heavily on the Dragons and their origins. The theme is different from the original, but used similar ascending intervals. This new theme was frequently reprised in the presence of the Dragons all throughout the season.
In Ninjago: Dragons Rising, both the original and the new Dragons' themes were frequently reprised to represent the dragons shown in the new series.
