History

History[]

Past[]

At some point after the creation of the Realm of Oni and Dragons, the Firstbourne was born as the first mortal dragon.[6] She mothered the first generation of dragons including Thunderfang[8] and Estian the Nomad[9] thus from came the entire dragons species, earning her the title of Mother of all dragons and her status as the matriarch of the Arc Dragons.

At some point the Firstbourne's people would go to war with their mortal enemies, demons wielding the power of Destruction known as the Oni. The Firstbourne fought in the war alongside the other Arc Dragons[10] until one day a child was born of both species. While the two sides continued fighting to control the child and his great power he befriended the Firstbourne, then together they made the Dragon Armor with the former's metal and the latter's fire breath and Dragon Ivory. Afterward, they sought to stop the war in the Realm of Oni and Dragons, but the child realized the war could not be stopped and left the realm to find a new home after creating the Realm Crystal and would eventually become the First Spinjitzu Master. The Firstbourne remained in the realm and protected the First Spinjitzu Master's Dragon Armor, retaining hope that he would one day return for it.

Much later, Iron Baron attempted to hunt for her, but she took his leg and arm as a result. But at the same time, Iron Baron was able to take the Dragonbone Blade from her. Since then, Baron has nursed a vendetta against the Firstbourne and leads his Dragon Hunters in search for it to get revenge.

Green and Gold (flashback)[]

When the Ultra Dragon returned to the Realm of Oni and Dragons, she welcomed it home alongside Stormbringer, Slab, a Fire Dragon, and a Wind Dragon and flew with it to her nest.

Hunted[]

How to Build a Dragon[]

During the ninjas' captivity, Jay remembers what Wu told him the first time he met him and decide to make a mech that looks like a dragon, which the Hunters will believe is the Firstbourne to help out. Over the next few days, Cole and Wu build the dragon with parts smuggled out by hiding them in dragon dung and get them before disposing of it.

Later that night, Wu flew the Dragon mech before a shot from Iron Baron knocks the tail off and the real Firstbourne appeared at Dead's End to rescue her dragons. The ninja initially confused her for their mech until they realize the truth and were shocked to see her up close.

The Dragon Hunters prepared to attack her, but the Dragon Matriarch was quicker and retaliated with Fire and Ice breath, burning down the village and freezing Iron Baron's chain rifle and several hunters in the process.

As she was firing among the camp, Wu and the ninja provide a distraction for Kai to free the dragons before they get out themselves. Iron Baron yelled that the dragon was punishing them for hunting her offspring. The freed Dragons then flew to their matriarch and were able to escape the Hunters.

Lessons for a Master[]

Iron Baron forced Wu to lead him to Firstbourne's nest, where the sacred Dragon Armor is guarded. Eventually, the arrival in the nest and locate the armor. Iron Baron rushes to procure it, and does so just as the Firstbourne awakens and rises up before him. Baron hastily throws on the armor and commands the Firstbourne to kill Wu. However, Wu discloses that he lied about the armor having control over the Firstbourne, and revealed that she instead sensed the good in his father's heart, which allowed him to tame her.

Upon sensing the evil in Iron Baron, who rips the armor off, the Firstbourne unleashes a stream of molten metal and encases him in it. The Firstbourne notices Wu and senses the good in his heart as she did with his father. Wu soon puts on the armor and allies with the Firstbourne and her family of dragons. He flies the Firstbourne out of the nest and reunites with the ninja and Dragon Hunters. After the ninja board dragons of their own, they fly off to return to Ninjago.

Green Destiny[]

The ninja fly back into Ninjago through a portal in the sky, with Wu leading upon the Firstbourne. They went down to where Lloyd, Nya, and Dareth were fighting the [[Sons of Garmadon)] and sent the bikers fleeing away. After the team evacuated the people in the surrounding areas, Wu and Lloyd flew the Firstbourne up to Borg Tower, where they confronted Lord Garmadon. The three began fighting, with the Firstbourne eventually intervening and unleashing a stream of molten metal. Garmadon was incapacitated, but broke free and unleashed a burst of Destruction. Wu was sent flying towards the streets far below and was saved by the Firstbourne.

As Lloyd continued fighting his father, Wu flew the Firstbourne over to the Colossus and helped the ninja and their dragons to defeat it. After the successful battle to overthrow Garmadon and his forces, Wu said his "goodbyes" to the Firstbourne, as she and the other four dragons would soon return to the Realm of Oni and Dragons itself.

March of the Oni[]

The Darkness Comes[]

The First Realm was attacked by the Oni and the Firstbourne barely managed to escape with Faith. They traveled to Ninjago and fell unconscious. Wu helped them get better and Faith told Wu about the Oni's invasion.

Endings[]

Faith told Wu and Misako about what happened in the Realm of Oni and Dragons. The Oni attacked the realm and the Hunters try to defend themselves with the help of the dragons, but only Faith and the Firstbourne managed to escape.

After the ninja were victorious, the Firstbourne is fully healed and flew above the monastery as the ninja and their allies celebrate.

Firstbourne's name is based on the term "firstborn," as she was the first dragon. Her title "mother of all dragons" is probably based on the title "Mother of Dragons" used by Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones.

Trivia

Trivia[]

  • When she's using an Elemental Power, she can glow to the color of the element (when she used Fire she was glowing into a red-orange color, but when she used Ice she was glowing into a white-light blue color). This is mainly seen in How to Build a Dragon.
  • She is chronologically the first dragon to guard a golden artifact made by the First Spinjitzu Master, a similar duty that her descendants (Rocky, Shard, Wisp, and Flame) would do in Ninjago as the guardians of the Golden Weapons.
  • Firstbourne is portrayed as Kai's dragon in set form even though she is ridden by Wu in the TV series.
    • This may be due to the fact that due to her being red, which is Kai's color.
  • According to Tommy Andreasen, it is possible that Firstbourne is immortal, as she was able to live for thousands of years.[14] However, due to the nature of her birth and dragons from the times of the first war against the Oni, such as Egalt and Rontu, being shown in in Dragons Rising. It is more apt to describe her as having longevity rather than immortality.
  • Firstbourne is the strongest Arc Dragon[15] and can be considered their leader.[16]
    • Despite this, she has never been shown communicating with human speech like other Arc Dragons or the Dragon Masters.
      • It is still possible she could be capable of human speech and telepathy and only chooses not to or does so only to individuals she fully trusts.
    • She is one of the few Arc Dragons that lack a Crown of Horns.
  • Firstbourne, despite being said to be the first dragon in existence, the seven Source Dragons predate her, and are likely the 'source' of her power, as the seven Source Dragons are where all elemental powers originate. Firstbourne is likely the first dragon to be born from the Source Dragons.[6]
  • The connection between Firstbourne and the Source Dragons will be unveiled in the future.[17]
  • Doc Wyatt was unable to answer three specific questions about the Firstbourne, stating that the answers would contain spoilers. The questions were: - Was the Firstbourne created by the Source Dragon of Life? - Is the Firstbourne an ancestor of the First Spinjitzu Master? - Can the Firstbourne reproduce asexually?[18]
    • This probably means that these questions will be addressed in the future.
  • When asked who would win if Firstbourne were to fight Thunderfang with both in their primes Doc Wyatt stated, "I guess it depends on circumstances-- I want to say Firstbourne, but does Thunderfang have any advantages (sneak attack, etc...). I guess I'd say odds would be 6 out of 10 in favor of the Firstbourne".[19]
  • She's the first dragon to defeat a main antagonist, followed by the Golden Ultra Dragon and the Arc Dragon of Focus.
    • She is also the only dragon to independently defeat a main antagonist, whereas the other two only did so by being commanded by the ninja.
  • It's unknown where she was during the events of Dragons Rising Season 3 or if she was aware Thunderfang had been released by the Forbidden Five and later defeated by the Ninja.
