Synopsis[]

What happened to the four-headed Ultra Dragon in LEGO® NINJAGO®? The Legacy of Spinjitzu mural has stirred up memories for all the ninja. For Lloyd as well. He still relives that one fateful day years ago in his dreams, when he had to face the Venomari and needed the help of both Ultra and the Golden Dragon. But some battles even a ninja can’t win… And maybe that’s for the best?^[1]

Plot[]

Lloyd is dreaming in the Monastery about the fate of the Ultra Dragon.

One day, while on Lloyd and "Ultra" are on patrol, they spot some members of the Venomari Tribe attacking a local village, setting the houses on fire and stealing their food. Lloyd jumps off of Ultra's back and summons his Golden Dragon, and the two split up to defeat the Serpentine more effectively. Lloyd and Ultra foil the attack and fly back into the air. When Lloyd is about to jump back on the Ultra Dragon, it disappears in the clouds, and Lloyd follows it to the Spirit Coves.

When he arrives, Lloyd notices that Ultra is homesick. He tells Ultra to return to the Realm of Oni and Dragons. Ultra then flies out of the Coves and opens a portal to its home realm. The mini-movie ends with the Ultra Dragon flying with the other dragons, including Firstbourne.

• This episode shares a name with a song written by Lianne La Havas and a type of sunflower.
• The Legacy sets that appear in this episode are 70679 The Ultra Dragon, 70666 The Golden Dragon, and 70670 Monastery of Spinjitzu. In addition, this is the only episode that has three Legacy sets.
  • While Wu, Pythor, and Garmadon appear in 70679 The Ultra Dragon, they do not appear in this episode.
  • While the Overlord and a Stone Scout appear in 70666 The Golden Dragon, they do not appear in this episode.
  • While Wu, all the other ninja, and Wyplash appear in 70670 Monastery of Spinjitzu, they do not appear in this episode.
• When the Ultra Dragon zapped Spitta after attacking the village, Spitta briefly turned into Wyplash, playing as a cartoon trope of a character's skeleton showing while being electrocuted.
  • Spitta as a skeleton is bent backwards so that the stud on his head is not visible.
  • This technique was previously used on a group of Stone Swordsmen in "The Last Hope" and on Jay in "Funny Guys," and it would later be used on Cole in "Krag's Lament" and on Jay in "Sweatin' to the Goldies."
• This is Tommy Kalmar's favorite Tales from the Monastery of Spinjitzu short.^[2]

Continuity[]

• The dream sequence in this episode takes place between the events of seasons two and three, as Lloyd mentions that the Venomari were "defeated by the Stone Warriors," implying that the Serpentine were hiding by this point.
• In Lloyd's dream, he uses his movie design but has black eyes, this is because he received his green eyes after Hands of Time when he became closer with his element.
• Lloyd's Golden Power appears differently than in Seasons 2 and 3. As he only appears as the Golden Ninja in the short when he summons the Golden Dragon. While in "Rise of the Spinjitzu Master," "The Surge," and in "The Art of the Silent Fist" he is always in his golden gi.
• The petals seen at the beginning of the episode are the same petals used to bring Lloyd back to Ninjago in "Endings."
• This short marks several reappearances:
  • The first appearance of the Spirit Coves. The episode also confirms that the Spirit Coves are real, as Wu was unsure of their existence when he mentioned them in "Snakebit."
  • The first time the Golden Dragon is seen since "Blackout."
  • The first time the Ultra Dragon is seen alive since "Rise of the Spinjitzu Master" (excluding its non-canon appearance in LEGO Ninjago: Shadow of Ronin).
  • The first time Lasha is seen since "The Curse of the Golden Master."
  • The first time Spitta is seen since "The Day Ninjago Stood Still."
• Although neither Nya nor Harumi appears in the short, their themes are used in the short.
  • The "Training Course" track from the first episode of the series is also used.
• The episode reveals why the Ultra Dragon was absent following season 2. However, the dragon was mentioned as an alternative form of transport in "The Surge," implying that it was still with the ninja by then. It is possible that Ultra's departure happened shortly before or during the episode, or that Brad Tudabone wasn't aware that they left.

Errors[]

• When Spitta is struck by Lightning, he changes into Wyplash with a belt and shoulder pads, which should not be there because his skeleton is under the skin. It can be assumed that the same model as for Wyplash was simply used, but without the hat.
  • However, even if the skeleton did not have shoulder pads and a belt, it would not fit the true design of Spitta, as his skull has a completely different shape, no red pupils and, in particular, four yellow eyes instead of two.
• When the Ultra Dragon stops the fire in the village, the Lightning Dragon's head can be seen using Ice.
