Dark Forces! is the 18th issue of Legacy Edition of the Ninjago Magazine. It includes 112218 Lloyd vs. Overlord.

Following the Nindroid crisis, Ninjago City has enjoyed a long period of peace. On this day, a group of Serpentine declared their intentions of conquering Ninjago, but were almost immediately stopped by the Ninja. While Lloyd moans that the peace was boring and that they were left defeating small fry like this trio of Serpentine, Jay joked that the snakes thought they were a big threat like the recently defeated Overlord. Unamused, Kai told Jay that he would much rather prefer fighting Serpentine any day than the Overlord.

Unbeknownst to the Ninja, the Overlord's essence had dripped into the sewers where his spirit reformed and materialized once more, seeking a new host to continue his eternal plans of conquering Ninjago. Drifting through the sewers and back into the streets of the Ninjago City, the Overlord possessed the first vessel that passed by: Rufus McCallister. Now in possession of a host body to sustain his spirit while he regained his strength, the Overlord made his way to his host's place of business, Ninjago Doomsday Comix, where a long line stood outside in wait; a new Starfarer comic was releasing today.

Upon seeing the line of customers and the camaraderie that had for his new host, the Overlord devised a new plan of infecting the city with Dark Matter. Doing his best to act like McCallister, the Overlord informed the crowd that the newest issues would soon be available for them all as he entered the shop, summoning forth his Stone Army to infuse each issue of the comic with dark matter. Later that day, the population of Ninjago City began to turn evil as a result of their exposure to the dark matter infected comics, slowly shifting the balance towards evil. Fortunately, Dareth, who was out grocery shopping, recognized the symptoms thanks to his experiences during The Final Battle. He then immediately called Lloyd who assembled the Ninja and headed towards Doomsday Comix to confront the Overlord once more.

As they confront the weakened Overlord, who was still in possession of McCallister's body, the spirit declared that victory was within his grasp this time, for his followers had helped to combine scrap metal and dark matter to create a giant monster! Faced with the massive creature, Lloyd ordered Kai to return to the Monastery to get Nya and her Samurai Mech while the rest fought against the Overlord's forces. Although the ninja were able to keep the Stone Army at bay with their Elemental Powers, they found themselves helpless against the giant monster which now leaped into the air, preparing to crush the ninja with its massive body. Fortunately, Nya arrived just in time with her mech to combat the creature, dispatching it in short order. With his plans ruined, the Overlord curses the ninja for defeating him once more as his spirit withdraws from McCallister's body, vowing to return again one day.

in the aftermath of the battle, Cole asked Lloyd if this had been enough excitement for him. In response, Lloyd sheepishly admitted that all the destruction inflicted upon the city along with the hundreds of civilians left confused and scared of what had happened was not worth it. Instead, perhaps doing something boring might not be so bad after all, he decided!

  • The Serpentine attacking Ninjago refer to themselves as being Fangpyre, but they use the Legacy models of Mezmo and Rattla, who are Hypnobrai.
