Aboard Destiny's Bounty, Kai trained his ninja skills while his sister, Nya, worked to familiarize herself with the controls of their new home; Wu and the other ninja had left the ship to their care while they searched for any signs of Serpentine. Unbeknownst to the two, however, Skales, Lasha, and a platoon of Venomari lay in wait nearby, planning an attack on the Ninja's ship. Lasha suggested that they could board the ship from the side and take the ninja by surprise, though Skales silenced the scout, stating that he was the general and so he devised their plan of attack. And what was Skales' original plan? The Serpentine would launch their attack by boarding the ship from the side to take the ninja by surprise, of course!
The Serpentine launch their attack on the Bounty, triggering the ship's alarms in the process as they board it. As he confronted Kai in battle, Skales boasted that his combat skills had improved since the last time they tangled. However, Kai was still able to give the Hypnobrai general a run for his money, noting that while Skales' abilities may have improved, they have not improved enough. Kai's overconfidence unfortunately gave Lasha an opening, and the Venomari Scout struck the red ninja from behind, giving Skales an opportunity to slither away to resume their true objective of finding the book of lessons!
After defeating the Venomari with the Bounty's hidden traps and activations, Kai rushed off into Wu's quarters where he was confronted by Skales and Lasha. When the serpents demanded the book of lessons, Kai responded by striking them both with a burst of Spinjitzu. The red ninja then stepped towards his foes, but it would seem he had greatly underestimated their recovery time; as he approached, Skales and Lasha rose to their feet and grabbed Kai before hurling him across the room! With Kai down, Skales stole the book of lessons and retreated with his forces, declaring that next time, the ninja would all fear the Serpentine!
Some time later, Wu and the other ninja returned to the Bounty, recounting in great detail their mission to Kai and Nya. Upon realizing their friends' glum expressions however, Wu stopped to ask them what may have been the matter. After the siblings explained how they were attacked and that Skales had taken Wu's book of lessons, Wu simply smiled and asked his students not to be concerned, as he wasn't in the slightest; as it turned out, the book Skales had napped was just a decoy, and the real book of lessons was hidden elsewhere in the Bounty!
Meanwhile, at the Serpentine's underground fortress, Skales and Lasha delivered the book of lessons to Pythor, declaring that with the secrets contained within, they would learn all of the ninjas' techniques and know how to counter them! Rather than praise his subordinates, however, Pythor's pleased look quickly disintegrated into one of great displeasure. Turning now towards them, he declared that both Skales and Lasha were complete idiots, as they had failed to notice a piece of paper stuck to the bottom half of the book. Instead of the book of lessons, they had brought back the book of lessons: how to dance! And to add further insult to injury, the interior of the book said nothing at all beside, "This book belongs to...Cole the best ninja!" Infuriated, Pythor hurled the book back at Skales and stated in a low tone that he would like to have a word with him and Lasha. In response, Skales began insisting that he had little to do with obtaining the book before he and Lasha both began to flee from Pythor's wrath.

- The comic likely takes place between "The Snake King" and "Tick Tock", as Lloyd isn't present on the Destiny's Bounty and Wu didn't go to the Realm of Madness yet.
