Overview
Hibernus was the Elemental Master of Ice during the Serpentine War. At some point after the war and shortly before his death, he gave his powers to Zane.
History

Serpentine War[]
In the Elemental Alliance, Hibernus fought against the Anacondrai in the Birchwood Forest. The Alliance was betrayed when they were attacked by the Benton, who had been manipulated by Chen.
After the War, Hibernus used a Sacred Flute and escorted the Hypnobrai tribe into their tomb inside the Glacier Barrens.[2]
Battle for All Time[]
Shortly after winning the war, the Alliance was betrayed by the Time Twins, the two Elemental Masters of Time. This left the Alliance with no choice but to fight back. In the ensuing battle, Hibernus attempted to blast ice at Krux, but he was frozen in time and struck by Krux.
With the Alliance having been overpowered, Hibernus watched as Wu told Maya and Ray he has a plan to defeat the Hands of Time. When Wu and Garmadon defeated the Time Twins at the monastery with Time Blades forged from Chronosteel, the Master of Ice restrained Krux while Wu and Garmadon let the blades be lost in the temporal vortex. However, the twins chose to be lost to time and, after fighting off their restrainers went into the vortex as well.
Lost in Time[]
Immediately after this, future versions of Krux and Acronix landed at the monastery in the Iron Doom, confusing the Elemental Masters at first. The Masters fought the twins and their army of Vermillion to keep them out of the monastery. When they were outnumbered, "Ray" (Kai) and "Maya" (Nya) came to help. The Vermillion suddenly separated into snake form and fused inside the Iron Doom.
The Masters watched as "Ray" and "Maya" summoned the Fusion Dragon to defeat the Iron Doom. The Masters fought the Iron Doom as a distraction. When "Ray," "Maya," and Wu followed the twins into the vortex, Wu told the Alliance to drink Obscuritea to maintain the timeline.
After the Battle for All Time[]
Hibernus visited Dr. Julien's workshop in the Birchwood Forest while ill and stayed for the night. He took a particular interest in Zane and passed his powers on to him.[3] Sometime later, he perished.[1]

- Like several other members of the Elemental Alliance, Hibernus' name is finally revealed in the Strike of the Serpentine book - a decade after his debut in the show.
- It is revealed in the fourth episode of Sons of Garmadon, "Snake Jaguar," that he had given Zane his elemental power.
- Dan and Kevin Hageman have revealed that this explanation is borrowed from a fan's idea.[5][6]
- His outfit reuses the collar design for Garmadon's Rebooted outfit.
