Plot

Plot[]

Nya and Kai joined the others and Lloyd explained Zane will find Cyrus. Jay and Cole will rescue the workers, and he will get Wu. Kai and Nya are tasked with finding the Time Twins.

Meanwhile, Wu fought some snakes and claimed his strength returned and the effects of the Time Punch have reversed. However, Misako, Garmadon, and Morro emerge from Vermillion eggs wearing Vermillion armor to tell him he failed them, then Acronix and Krux appear, with Acronix reminding Wu that he was the latest failure and then the ninja told him he shouldn't have faced Acronix alone, and that they could've help her. However, this is a hallucination; Wu is tied up in a cell.

Zane treks through the swamp and tells P.I.X.A.L. to scan for Borg. He forgot she's still offline and scans it himself. Meanwhile, Jay and Cole hid behind a rock and went pass the Vermillion. They entered through the skylight and are greeted by Karlof and The Royal Blacksmiths. Karlof explained they took the builders and metal so they could force them to make armor, weapons, and vehicles for the Vermillion Warriors.

Cyrus told Krux that he completed the apparatus but it won't work without all four Time Blades. Acronix informs his brother the third Blade will be arriving. When Cyrus tries to sabotage it, Machia took him with them.

Lloyd found Wu's cell, but it was empty. He saw Blunck and Raggmunk with Wu and fought them. However, Raggmunk tried to get Wu away from him while Blunck was defeated.

Since Karlof is too heavy to hold, Cole thought of using the metal to build a ladder instead. The workers started to construct one and Cole asks Lou where the armor design came from. He responded that it came from a blacksmith.

Nya asks for the map, and realizes Kai isn't trying to find the twins—he's trying to find their parents. When they reaches the blacksmith shop, Kai sees his father, Ray, forging more Vermillion helmets and attacks him, calling him a traitor. Ray realizes that his attacker is his son when he uses his elemental powers just as Nya tries to stop him. Realizing that his son and daughter are here, Ray attempts to talk Kai down, but he refuses to listen.

Lloyd tripped Raggmunk and tries to save Wu before he could fall down a cliff. When Jay checked on the ladder, it collapses, and the Vermillion went toward the sound.

The twins, Machia, and Cyrus wait for the Pause Time Blade atop a mountain. When it lands, it freezes them and the ninja briefly. Acronix tries to get Krux to admit technology is great, but the latter claimed they won't need the BorgWatch to get the fourth and final Blade: the Reversal Time Blade.

Cole and Jay defeat the Vermillion, but they saw more coming and ordered the prisoners to escape through the doors. Meanwhile, Raggmunk and Blunck were able to take Wu back.

As Kai continues to battle his father, Maya arrives and stops the fight, where Nya embraces her mother after being apart for so long. Still angered at his parents for helping the Time Twins, Kai refuses to accept his parents. However, Ray and Maya explain why they've been helping the twins and that they were forced to as punishment for creating the Time Blades. Ray explains how forty years ago, when the twins had betrayed the other Elemental Masters, Master Wu suggested that they forge four Time Blades from Chronosteel to absorb the twins' power. Ray and Maya successfully completed them, but were exhausted from the work, which is why they weren't present during the final battle. After Wu and Garmadon used the Time Blades to absorb the twins' powers and opened the vortex to lose them in time forever, the twins both went after them. However, Wu also saw a sign in the future telling him exactly when Acronix would return forty years later: the blimp passing Borg Tower. Not only did Wu see the blimp, so did Krux as he wasn't sent forward in time with Acronix. Knowing he had decades to plan, he took the identity as Dr. Sander Saunders and used the Vermillion eggs from the Great Devourer to create a legion of warriors and kidnapped Maya and Ray and forced them to work for him in preparation for Acronix's return, threatening to hurt Kai and Nya if they refused. Ray then explains the reason his blacksmith stamp was on all the Vermillion armor was that it was a message for hopes that someone would figure out where he and Maya were. He then tells his children of the Time Twins' ultimate plan: to control all of time.

After the twins return from their destination, Machia scold Blunck and Raggmunk for losing Wu. At the same time, Lloyd and Zane meet up and see Jay and Cole being outnumbered, so they join in and help.

Back at the blacksmith shop, Ray and Maya tell Kai and Nya about the Time Twins' ultimate weapon: the Iron Doom, a special transport armor to take the Vermillion throughout time and that Borg was forced to design the special apparatus to power the machine that draws the temporal energy from the Time Blades. Kai and Nya then realize that the pause they felt before was from the third Time Blade arriving, meaning that all Krux and Acronix need is one more Time Blade so that their weapon will be fully operational. However, Ray and Maya inform their children that Wu found the final Time Blade after the Time Twins disappeared and instructed them to hide it in a location that only a combined Element of Fire and Water could reach.

However, they try to get their children to leave before Krux and Acronix could force them to retrieve it, but are too late as the brothers arrive with their generals and a powerless Wu. Refusing to do their bidding, Krux and Acronix threaten to harm Ray and Maya as well as Wu. Acronix then points out that the Reversal Blade is the only thing that can undo the effects of the Forward Blade's Time Punch on Wu and stop his aging, meaning they have to retrieve it no matter what.

As the other ninja defeat the horde of Vermillion, they see Krux and Acronix's ship take off just as more Vermillion eggs hatch and form more warriors.

Trivia

Trivia[]

  • The title is a pun on the term "cause and effect," with the word "pause" being added because the episode focuses on the Pause Time Blade—which can freeze time.
  • Lloyd asks Blunck, "Didn't your mother teach you not to fight with your mouth full?" This is ironic when one considers the reveal from the previous episode that all Vermillion are the children of the Great Devourer.
  • This is the only episode in which Krux's face is shown (albeit in a flashback) with neither his fake glasses and mustache or his eye detailing.
  • Ironically, despite Cole possessing super-strength through his elemental power, Jay is asked to carry Karlof up through the skylight with Airjitzu, with the result being Jay failing because Karlof is too heavy.

Continuity[]

  • Karlof appears for the first time since "The Corridor of Elders," twenty-eight episodes prior. It's also revealed that he retired as an Elemental Master.
  • Kai and Nya are reunited with their parents and it is revealed Krux forced them into servitude. This fulfills the setup in "Day of the Departed" when Kai and Nya wondered if they would ever find out what happened to their parents.
  • It is revealed that the apparatus being built by Cyrus Borg is a means of allowing the Iron Doom to function.
  • Garmadon and Morro make brief appearances in Wu's vision, where those closest to him blame him for the mistakes he's made.
    • Wu's vision shows that he feels guilty for losing those around him, rather than those around him feeling animosity towards him. This is made more evident by the fact even though Wu made amends with Morro at the end of "Day of the Departed," and Garmadon in "The Corridor of Elders," Wu feels guilty for their fates.
  • The Royal Blacksmiths sing their song, "Revenge Will Be Mine," which they first sang in "Day of the Departed" after Kozu said the same line.
  • This is Lou’s final speaking appearance in the series.

Errors[]

  • Acronix appears to use Krux's voice, when he first speaks in Wu's dream.
  • When Zane says, "I've lost the signal," he is in a running animation but does not move.
  • In the scene showing Karlof jumping and hugging Jay is in slow motion, in the bottom right corner a civilian's hat flashes from brown to gray twice.
  • Ray appears to mispronounce The Great Devourer, as "The Great Devour".
  • Maya's mouth is not in sync when she says "Wu" after Acronix and Krux reveal him.
