Chapter 1: How Ice to See You
Chapter 1: How Ice to See You[]
Stuck at the Gate[]
Sir Fangar is stuck at the walls of Lion City. His great plans to take over all of Chima are so close and yet so far. His attack has been pushed back and he has no further forces to throw into battle. Except for one. Desperate times calls for desperate measures, so in order to win the battle, he orders his troops to awaken the Ice Bears from their icy depths.
Set to Defrost![]
None of Sir Fangar’s troops are happy about the decision to defrost the Ice Bears. There is a very good reason they were left frozen in the first place, but orders are orders. Want to see what happens?
Chapter 2: Thawing the Hotheads
Chapter 2: Thawing the Hotheads[]
Left in the Deep Freezer[]
Thousands of years ago, during the first uprising, the Ice Bears were part of the Hunter tribes. They were wild. A chaotic element to have in any army. Uncontrollable even for a commander as strong and clever as Sir Fangar. When they marched into to battle, they went berserk. They could not always tell who was friend or foe and were more of a liability. So when the tribes were unfrozen Sir Fangar chose to leave them in the ice. He knew his army was strong and now he even had the power of the freeze on his side. He hoped that this would be enough to be victorious. He was wrong. When it came to the ultimate battle, he needed that extra ‘oomph’.
Icebite[]
The fearsome leader of the Ice Bear tribe is Icebite and in a tribe where only brute strength counts, you know the leader must be a beast. Icebite is very strong and an accomplished fighter. He is not very tactical, but he makes up for it with his lack of mercy. When he knocks you, you stay down. But for all his hand-to-hand combat skills, Icebite prefers to do battle from his Claw Driller mech. Not to protect himself from the fight, no no, but to protect the fight from him. Icebite loves to fight and he doesn’t want it to be over too quickly. He is much better on the ground than in his mech, so in the mech he stays. He always ignores the order to retreat or re-group. He fights to the last man. And he’s always the last man standing.
General Icerlot[]
Icebite is the leader of the tribe, but General Icerlot is the commander in battle. His cold, strategic thinking is unmatched in Chima. While Icebite plunges himself into the chaos of battle, General Icerlot remains composed and aware. He is extremely loyal to Icebite and believes that Ice Bears will never lose a battle. His warriors feel this faith, which makes them just about impossible to defeat. General Icerlot loves an efficient fight and does not waste time shouting long orders. Therefore he has developed a system of shorthand codes. Meaning the Ice Bear army can react quicker and move faster than any other, making it a truly mighty foe for anyone.
Icepaw[]
Icepaw is an extremely rare kind of Ice Bear. In combat he relies not on strength, but on speed. He roars into battle on the Claw Driller’s Blaster Bike and defeats his enemies by speeding around and around them – making them dizzy. It is not that he could not get off his bike and knock them out cold; he just thinks the other way is more elegant. An elegant Ice Bear, now you have heard it all! Icepaw is always at the very front, first one into battle and first one out. Not because he runs away, but because he is the scout of the tribe. He is incredibly hard to capture. Even if you ambush him, he can fight himself out of almost any attack. If you did catch him, you couldn’t get much out of him anyway. He never utters a single word, but you can tell what mood he is in by looking into his eyes. If you dare…
Iceklaw[]
History is written by the winner. When the Ice Bears win, it is written by Iceklaw. He is the smartest of the Ice Bears and the official historian of the tribe. He can take the story of a victory and make it into the legend of a triumph. He also documents opponents, their fighting style, their tactics and their weaknesses. He knows all the moves and can spot a trap or diversion from miles away. In battle he functions as a consultant for General Icerlot, helping him figure out what the enemy is up to and what would be the best way to move forward. If confronted in a fight, he will not bow down, but show everybody that the pen is truly mightier than the sword.
Chapter 3: Mech the Force be with You
Chapter 3: Mech the Force be with You[]
Flag of the Frozen[]
The Ice Bears go into battle under the flag of Ice Storm. This is the name the tribe has given to their legend beast. According to the stories of Iceklaw, the beast could start a storm on the cold tundra with his mighty breath alone. Snow and ice would rise up into mighty storm clouds and hit the enemy, leaving them cold struck and blinded. Then Ice Storm would attack. Roaring and standing at full height on his hind legs, he would emerge from the cloud, striking fear into the hearts of the enemy and taking away their hope of victory. His mighty paws would knock down anyone who did not run. To this day it is still the tactics of the Ice Bears to hit the enemy like an ice storm.
A Grizzly Story[]
The Phoenix gave a new way of life to all the tribes of Chima including the Ice Bears. But it was against the very nature of the Ice Bears. The Ice Bear is a natural hunter and the Phoenix wanted them to leave that behind. To become peaceful, civilized creatures. Only one problem; the Ice Bears could hear the call of the wild. Feel the roar of their nature. That voice from the snowy mountains and icy tundras that called to them, commanding them to behave like the animals they were. Every fiber in their body fought the teachings of the Phoenix. But every time they did what came naturally, the Phoenix would stop and scold them for misbehaving. The Ice Bears grew tired of this. So when Sir Fangar rebelled, they followed him and fought by his side. But soon Sir Fangar could not control them. They refused his orders or directly disobeyed. They were no longer just animals. They were beasts.
Mean, Lean Ice Bear Machine[]
The Claw Driller has two arms. One has a sharp claw and the other a vicious drill. The drill can permanently disable any enemy vehicle by drilling into its vital systems. The drill can also quickly open locked gates and even bolted doors. The Claw Driller’s torso can spin round the waist allowing it to gain enormous momentum for a hit from the heavy, steel arms. With just a single spin they can knock over most enemy vehicles. The mech also features a detachable Blaster Bike that can shoot off into the battlefield and pepper it with freezing bolts of ice. The Claw Driller is a very powerful mech and when there is an Ice Bear in the cockpit, it is downright frightening.
Freezebie[]
The Ice Hurler Disc Shooter is basically a cannon that fires what the Ice Bears like to call freezebies. Flying freezing discs that can encapsulate even very large vehicles or whole groups of enemies in ice. Just like when you throw a frisbee, the most talented of the Ice Bears can make the discs fly around corners by tilting the disc hurler left or right. So beware, you are not safe, even when you are out of the line of fire.
Getting Personal[]
Even without their mechs, the Ice Bears have dangerous equipment. They have both freeze guns and good, old fashioned weapons like hammers and swords. But what they really enjoy, what really lights their fighting fire, is hand to hand combat. Or more precisely paw-to-paw combat. That is when they really feel their nature and hear the roar of their legend beast Ice Storm in their souls. This gives them a boost in fighting power unlike anything. The best advice when meeting an Ice Bear in battle is to defeat them while they are still in their mechs.
Chapter 4: Frost Bitten, Twice Shy
Chapter 4: Frost Bitten, Twice Shy[]
Best Fiends Forever![]
When the Ice Bears are awoken from their icy sleep, the Brown Bears also wake up. Actually they do more than wake up. They jump out of bed and leap into action. Laval and Cragger have never, ever seen them like this. They even dug out mechs that nobody knew they had. Very, very unusual for these sleepyheads. Why did they react so strongly? To answer the question, we must go back a few millennia. The Ice Bears and the Brown Bears are, as you probably know, both bears. Way, way back, they descend from the same forefathers. They are of the same species, the same blood. There is a strong connection between them, but even the closest related can drift furthest apart. Like brothers that always fight, even though they should love each other. The Brown Bears’ love of sleeping and the Ice Bears’ overly energetic, hyperactive nature probably does not help either.
The Fast and the Furious[]
Nobody has ever seen anything like it. A pack of Brown Bears charging. Fully geared up in mechs and moving fast and furious. The only thing Brown Bears had ever charged before, were pots of honey. Even then they seemed half asleep. But there they came. Just when the overwhelming force of the Ice Bear attack had broken the ranks of the guardians of Chima and all seemed lost. When even the most hardened battle veteran could not see any way to turn the battle, it happened. It all went pretty fast from there. The Ice Bears did not stand a chance. Guess thousands of years in a dreamless sleep cannot compete with effective napping in the sun.
