My set number 14 is the Rogue's Mech Dragon Rider, and being a huge fan of the character, I'm super happy to have a chance to do a full-on Ja... I mean Rogue set!
Back in 2022, I was sitting at the Build Through meeting for the Elemental Dragon vs The Empress Mech, and first thing I did upon building the models I put the Empress Mech on Jiro and said jokingly "Hey we need to make a dragon mech rider!" Turns out the sentiment was shared by many people on the team when we had our 2025 brainstorm session, so this concept was sold pretty effortlessly
We explored several types of dragon could be and this raptor-inspired direction was a clear win when we tested with kids, and personally I think the final head design also brings some more dinosaur DNA to it as the bulky lower jaw reminds me of a T-Rex, which I think it's a pretty cool mix haha
Bipedal dragons are always a structural challenge but I lucked out as our dragon master Dimi has previously dealt with most of the foreseeable issues when designing Jiro and Thunderfang already! I kind of just took all the learnings from him and his models and it went pretty smoothly, so I had a lot of time polishing the details on this guy. The medium size of the model also makes this guy super posable, especially with the mech on the back to balance things out!
The mech was also super fun to design, I tried to bring every idea I have to differentiate it from the previous EVO mechs we got over the years, and I'm really happy with how the shoulder cape and the geta feet! (credits to Niek for the brilliant idea) And yes it's compatible with other mech rider sets!
As always shout out for our graphics designer Angel who did all the amazing graphics and Benjamin who did the building instruction on this. Teamwork![2]
