Smoke and Mirrors
Smoke and Mirrors[]
At the Monastery of Spinjitzu, the ninja are sitting in the lounge, listening to a report by Gayle Gossip about a recent string of robberies: across all of Ninjago, a thief or a gang of thieves have been using smoke to conceal themselves while they rob priceless artifacts, with the latest victim of this string of burglaries being the Explorer's Club. While all the ninja, except for Jay, voice their concerns over the robbery, the monastery halls suddenly fill with smoke as well, forcing the ninja to dive for cover. When the smoke clears, they discover that several of their weapons had been taken by the thieves! Unsure of who could be behind the robbery, Lloyd suspects Ash, the Elemental Master of Smoke and the ninja decide to pay their one time ally a visit.
Sometime later, the ninja confront Ash in his home and demand answers from him, to which Ash simply responds by laughing in the ninja's faces. As he struggles to contain his laughter, Ash explains that he found it hilarious that the ninja would ever suspect him of robbing them, reminding them that they fought together against Master Chen a long time ago. At that moment, Wu called Jay to notify him of a break-in in progress at the Ninjago Museum of History; the thieves were still on the loose! Meanwhile, outside the museum, a gang of thugs hastily packed up their smoke equipment into a getaway car, grumbling about the museum's alarms just as the ninja arrived on the scene to confront them.
As the thugs drive off, Kai furiously rushes into action, hurling a fireball at their getaway car and popping one of the rear tires. With their vehicle damaged, the thugs lost control and slammed into a nearby light post, ending the chase. The ninja then confront the thieves and demand to know the whereabouts of their stolen equipment, though the thieves refuse to talk and remain tightlipped. Or at least, all but one particularly prideful thug. In spite of his accomplices hushing for him to stay silent, the thief proudly admits to being responsible for flooding the Monastery with smoke and even reveals that they already sold the ninja's gear on the black market!
After a brief interrogation, the ninja learn of the warehouse where their gear was being stored at and hastily make their way over. As they approach the warehouse, the ninja discover that countless members of their old enemies are lying in wait, including Pythor, Stone Scouts, Nindroid Drones, Whack Rats, and Sky Pirates! As Pythor orders the others to attack the ninja, the heroes are forced to flee and barricade themselves inside another warehouse, only to discover that even more of their old enemies are in here as well! Fortunately, Ash arrives just in time to backup his allies, entering through one of the warehouse's windows to flood the storage room with a blinding smokescreen. Under the cover of smoke, the ninja and Ash make quick work of the villains, leaving their defeated foes lying unconscious in a pile in the warehouse. While the ninja begin to celebrate their victory while thanking Ash for his assistance, Jay spotted one last individual making off with the ninja's weapons!
As the ninja pursue and corner this hoodie wearing individual, they discover to their surprise that it was none other than their superfan, Christina! When they ask her about her presence in the warehouse, Christina sheepishly admitted that she just wanted something that once belonged to her heroes and in this case, it just happened to be their stolen weaponry. The ninja, however, manage to dissuade Christina from taking the weaponry, warning her that they were dangerous in her untrained hands. Instead, Christina decides to settle for a group photo of herself with the ninja, who then retrieve their weaponry and depart.

Trivia
Trivia[]
- The English version of the comic has the same name as the comic in issue 31. In the German original, the titles are different.
- This is the second issue to have Garmadon as the main character on the cover, the first being issue 38 of the regular Ninjago Magazine.
- The comic shows that Ash was alive still had the power of Smoke as of Season 12. However, this comic has contradictions with the series, so this information may not be canon.
- The comic is non-canon because it depicts Stone Scouts being active post Season 12 and Pythor's involvement, despite the fact the Ninja state in Season 15 that they have not seen him in many years.
- Pythor is erroneously drawn with the torso and tail printing found on Kapau's fake Anacondrai form.
- His scales are also purple once more when they should still be bleached, and they lack the pattering present along his head.
- Alternatively, the character was intended to be a fake Anacondrai but was erroneously given Pythor's minifigure's neck design, albeit without the aforementioned pattering.
- His scales are also purple once more when they should still be bleached, and they lack the pattering present along his head.
