Extended: Three original adventure stories from the LEGO NINJAGO world aligning with the TV Show storyline. In the first story, a famous reporter, Gayle Gossip, runs an investigation to solve the mystery of strange events occurring in Ninjago City: unusual water activity and the odd behavior of water animals. Narrated by Nya herself, the second story introduces a mother-daughter conflict when Nya's mother arrives to help her daughter regain control of her powers. In the third story, the ninja set out on a mission to uncover the source of a power signal that is disrupting marine life and Nya's powers. When the vessel gets attacked by a deep-sea creature, help comes from an unexpected side.^[1]

The Ninja have rescued Misako and Master Wu from the Island of the Keepers, where they had foiled a plot from their old frenemy, Ronin, and learned about the legend of Wojira. Since then however, Nya's power over water has been in flux, dampening her confidence. As the ninja fight to stop Miss Demeanor and her gang in a rural village, Nya's powers go haywire and nearly flood the entire village, allowing for Miss Demeanor to escape. Nya wonders now if her fluctuating powers may be related to the legend of Wojira.

Gayle Gossip soon arrived to the village to report on the incident, asking a little boy what he had witnessed. The boy explained that Nya had created the flood before claiming to have helped Zane cross a bridge over a deep canyon filled with "jaguar-gators" which were "jaguars crossed with alligators that breathe fire." Gayle then interrupted the boy by suggesting that she heard his mother calling him. The boy ran off calling to his mother, happily declaring that he would be on tv. Gayle then received a phone call from the news director instructing her to head to Ninjago Harbor to report on something that was attacking the port.

After arriving at the port, the fishermen there claimed that they were attacked by a giant octopus. Gayle didn't believe them and asked instead if they were sure it wasn't Nya. The fishermen denied it, stating instead that they had been assisted by Zane and P.I.X.A.L. and that they had saved the ninja from the octopus; Gayle was unconvinced by their story and returned to the television station.

Using the restroom at the station, Gayle noted with dismay that the toilet was spouting like a fountain and the plumber working on it explained that he had received multiple calls about similar issues across all of Ninjago, even including the Monastery of Spinjitzu. Gayle then took off to the monastery, bringing the plumber with her. The monastery was empty when Gayle, Vinny, and the plumber arrived, and the three decided after some time to simply leave. As they prepared to leave, the water from a nearby creek burst out from its banks and Gayle shouted for Vinny to start recording. Unfortunately, the two were soon overtaken by the wall of water and nearly drowned until the water dissipated. Despite surviving the wall of water, a very angry herd of frogs soon emerged from the creek and began hopping towards the three humans, chasing them far off into the distance.

Mom Knows Best[]

Nya noted that as the Master of Water, she is more than capable of handling herself and surely she would've eventually figured out on her own the reason behind her fluctuating powers. She expressed annoyance over Master Wu's call for Nya's parents to come and provide assistance, especially Maya, her mother, as the latter had essentially taken over her life. As for part of her grumbling, Nya recounted how Maya threw out her favorite breakfast cereal and instead made her drink a green blend of various fruits and vegetables and later interjecting in Nya's morning training routine and suggesting for her to follow Maya's routine instead. Why? Because "mom knows best."

Nya later ran into Kai in the halls and asked him if their mother was making his life more difficult too, but Kai replied that he actually loved spending time with their mother. After this, Nya ran to her room to scream into her pillow, but balked when she found her mother already there, laying out clothes atop of Nya's bed for Nya to wear. Frustrated, Nya stormed off to the kitchen and hid behind the pantry. Unfortunately, Maya and Wu entered the kitchen to brew a pot of tea. Fearing that she would be discovered, Nya lost control over her powers again and caused the water in Wu's teapot to burst out, splashing him with water. Wu calmly stated, "Nya, this is not how I like my tea." and Maya jokingly added that Nya owed him a new tea pot now.

Nya later felt a strange pulse of energy coursing through her, triggering her powers and causing every pipe and faucet in the monastery to burst. Zane and P.I.X.A.L. soon returned and informed everyone that they had tracked the energy pulse to the Tartarus Trench and Wu advised the ninja to investigate it. Although she was unsure of whether or not she should join her allies on the expedition, the other ninja encouraged her to go, with Wu making the final push by asking Nya if she would rather stay at the monastery with her mother instead. Horrified by the alternative, Nya immediately began packing her bags. Maya however advised against Nya's intention of joining the expedition, but Nya snapped at her and stormed off. Prior to joining her friends, Nya privately regretted lashing out at her mother and wondered if Maya had really only wanted to help her. Nya, Zane, P.I.X.A.L., Jay, and Lloyd then boarded the Hydro Bounty and began their dive into the Endless Sea

Secrets of the Deep[]

Aboard the Hydro Bounty, Zane continued to act like a pirate, much to Jay's displeasure and annoyance. To add to the confusion, someone had been completing chores across the submersible when the ninja weren't looking and Jay suggested it had been a ghost butler he dubbed "Ducklesworth." After hearing a crash, the ninja followed the sound but came across a dead end. Nya paused and wondered aloud that if she were a former ninja, where would she hide? Glancing upward, Nya sighed with annoyance as she caught sight of her mother clinging onto the ceiling.

Nya demanded for the sub to be turned back so they could drop Maya off back at the monastery, but Zane revealed that it was impossible to turn back now for they were already miles beneath the Endless Sea by now. The Hydro Bounty was then struck by a giant crash and the ninja rushed to the deck, where they discovered that the sub was trapped in the clutches of a giant octopus. Nya prepared to attack it with her power over water, but stopped when she noticed that everyone else were watching her with careful eyes. After P.I.X.A.L.'s efforts to escape from the octopus' grasp failed, Maya asked Zane to accompany her and the two each suited up in an APS suit to confront the octopus inside its watery domain.

Maya ordered Zane to distract the octopus, and he complied by telling it stories of piracy and adventure. When the octopus was finally sufficiently annoyed, it let one tentacle off the Hydro Bounty to smack Zane aside. Maya took advantage of this opening to start tickling the octopus until it finally let go of the Bounty completely to swim away and flee. As the two returned onboard the ship, they saw on the scanner that the octopus was returning. The ninja then hastily drove the Bounty away to escape from the octopus' clutches. After a moment of celebration, the Bounty began shaking again, its windows illuminated by a bright light coming from outside. P.I.X.A.L. informed the others that someone was firing at them, but she did not know who. Nya though was confident that regardless of whatever enemy was lurking outside, as long as she was with her team (including her mother), she knew that they would be able to tackle and overcome any challenge!
