Game for a Game!

Game for a Game![]

Shortly after Jay's mysterious disappearance, Lloyd and Nya find themselves wandering the streets of Ninjago City one evening in search of clues regarding their missing friend. On every street corner, the pair see that virtually everyone are playing Prime Empire - the strange arcade game that Jay had been playing right before he vanished inside of The Mechanic's headquarters. As the two pass by Laughy's, Dareth's karaoke bar, they discover their friend standing outside in a slump. "Business is bad," Dareth moaned, "Everyone prefers playing Prime Empire." Dareth then remarked that he's been trying to find a Prime Empire cabinet for his bar, hoping it would restart business, but to his dismay, he could not find a single seller despite the game being available just about everywhere! Lloyd then spotted a poster advertising a video game convention for the next day and suggested that it could be a starting point for their investigation. The next evening, the five remaining Ninja made their way to the convention.

Shortly after entering, the ninja ran into Rufus McCallister and learned from him a rundown of the history of Prime Empire, how it was created by the legendary programmer Milton Dyer and a bit about the game itself. As the ninja discuss amongst themselves about the possibility of Dyer being an evil mastermind, Dareth approached the group and explained he was seeking a copy of Prime Empire. This prompted a nearby man to offer what he claimed to be a copy of the first beta version of the game, leading to a brawl between the ninja, McCallister, and Dareth when McCallister attempted to purchase the drive.

As the group brawled, a group of Henchmen working for The Mechanic took advantage of the chaos, and following the orders of their employer, stole the beta drive. In response, the ninja, McCallister, and Dareth began pursuing the thieves in some of the convention's go-karts before transitioning the chase to be on foot. Thanks to their earlier head start, the Mechanic's henchmen were able to lay out traps in efforts to delay their pursuers, for example running up escalators and rolling tables down behind them. Eventually, the ninja pursued the henchmen into the convention's warehouse, but the clever goons were attempting to block the exit by throwing down packages after packages. At first, the ninja attempted to stack and reconfigure the packages into specific shapes to fit through the delivery conveyor, but Kai and Nya wound up loosing patience and simply smashed their way through the rest with Spinjitzu.

With the way now clear, the ninja cornered the henchmen and dispatched them with Spinjitzu. After recovering the beta version of Prime Empire, the ninja returned to the Monastery of Spinjitzu and gave the drive to P.I.X.A.L.. Unfortunately, it turned out that the game contained on the drive was not any version of Prime Empire at all and was a complete fake! As the ninja groaned at this discovery, Nya mused to herself that if only Jay were here, at the very least he would be happy about having a new video game.
