Into the Tunnels
Into the Tunnels[]
After receiving a map to the Vermillion Swamps from Skales, Lloyd, Cole, Jay, and Zane traveled through the maze of sewer tunnels aboard Destiny's Shadow. After some time of searching aimlessly, Jay grew frustrated and complained that he couldn't read the language on the map. Zane then took the map from his friend, suggesting that he could translate. Following Zane's instructions, the four ninja seemingly arrived at their destination; all they had to do was ascend a ladder.
Rather than emerging inside a swamp however, the four found themselves inside an abandoned factory of sorts, filled with scrap metal and a curious incubator they had retrieved previously for Dr. Saunders. Examining the incubator, the Ninja realized that Dr. Saunders, now since revealed to be the villainous Krux, had requested it to hatch more Vermillion eggs. In fact, they seemed to be hatching right now! As the Ninja watched, the sides of the egg shaped incubator opened and released hordes of Vermillion snakes, which then slithered into the room's derelict machinery and old cars, forming two makeshift Buffmillion armors and two monstrosities using the old cars as shell coverings.
Surrounded, but hardly ready to back down, the four Ninja quickly formulated a plan and attacked their foes. Jay and Cole used some of the nearby parts to construct mechs for themselves, holding off the Vermillion with flamethrowers while Lloyd and Zane attempted to short-circuit the room's generator. Although Zane attempted to explain to Lloyd which wires to connect, the latter hastily connected the green and red wires together the moment Zane mentioned them, triggering an explosion that destroyed the generator and severely damaging the room's structural integrity.
When Lloyd recovered moments later, he slowly asked Zane what had happened. In response, Zane explained that he had been trying to warn Lloyd not to connect the green and red wires, as doing so would cause an explosion; however Lloyd acted without letting him finish his sentence, and he was going to say afterwards that connecting the red and blue wires would have short-circuited the generator as intended. As the room now began to collapse upon itself, the Vermillion abandoned their armors and slithered away, with the Ninja taking the hint to make a mad dash for the manhole they had entered from.
Escaping back into the tunnels, Cole noted that at the very least, they had destroyed the incubator with the explosion and the four high-fived in celebration of this small victory. Returning to Destiny's Shadow to continue their search for the Swamps, Zane studied the map and explained that it marked multiple breeding sites across the sewers that Krux had been using to raise Vermillion. The room they had just destroyed was one of the smaller sites, and Zane surmised that the biggest site on the map must have been the Swamps themselves. Armed with this knowledge, the four now made their way there.

Trivia
Trivia[]
- The comic directly mentions the events of issue 20 and shows the incubator retrieved by the Ninja for Dr. Saunders in that comic. Since the comic from issue 20 is considered non-canon, this comic is also considered such.
- This comic is another where the world is treated like the LEGO Playsets, with Jay and Cole using pieces to assemble mechs for themselves.
