Ambushed!

Ambushed![]

The Ninja were attending a concert in Ninjago City's square. During the intermission, the singer promoted "Burger-Fizz," Ninjago's first cheeseburger flavored soda. Cole found the soft drink revolting, while Zane professed that he enjoyed it. All of a sudden, plant monsters began attacking the venue and kidnapping citizens with their vines. Cole was startled by the singer's screaming and spilled his can of Burger-Fizz on a monster that was approaching him from behind. When Cole turned around, he saw the monster writhing and screaming from the soda, and Cole pointed out that he was right to find it revolting, given that even monsters couldn't tolerate it.

Lloyd then called for the ninja to rescue the kidnapped citizens and to stop the monsters. As the ninja fought against the monsters, Cole wondered where they came from and Jay spotted a glowing flower that he suspected was central to the plant monster invasion. Although the ninja were able to easily repel the monsters, Zane cautioned that the monsters were multiplying at a rate faster than the ninja could defeat them, and sooner or later, the entire city would be overrun. Jay then decided to turn his attention to the glowing flower and approached it with hands charged with Lightning. As he destroyed the flower, the plant expelled a large cloud of pollen, putting Jay under some kind of trance.

Now enthralled by the plant's pollens, Jay turned on his allies and shocked them all with lightning. This gave the plant monsters enough time to capture the ninja, bringing them underground alongside all the other citizens they had abducted. Below the surface, Zane scanned their surroundings and explained to the others that the glowing flower's roots had spread far beneath the surface and created "pods" for the plant monsters to place the captured humans in. It seemed as though the plant's pods were capable of converting body heat from humans into energy for itself, which it could then use to create more plant monsters. Lloyd also noticed that the soil here was tainted with venom from the Great Devourer and reasoned that it must have mutated the plant. Kai lost his patience with the botany lesson and asked if anyone had brought herbicide with them, to which Cole suddenly remembered the reaction one of the plant monsters had to the Burger-Fizz and he wished now that he still had some left.

As it turned out, Zane still had a can of Burger-Fizz and was drinking it right now! Cole kicked the can out of Zane's hands, where it splashed over Jay and broke the plant's hold over him. Observing thing, Zane surmised that the drink's incredibly high sodium content was likely lethal to vegetation. Jay then assisted the other ninja in breaking free from their captors. Although the ninja escaped from their immediate captors, they were still vastly outnumbered by the plant monsters. Cole asked his friends to keep the monsters busy for as long as possible while he ran back to the surface to get some more cans of Burger-Fizz. Cole soon returned and sprayed the soda across the plants, immediately withering all of them, including the mother plant. With its destruction, all remaining plant monsters throughout Ninjago City withered to death as well. The ninja then began helping the remaining citizens escape from the withered plant pods as they heard an unearthly howling. Turning, the ninja saw the singer screaming about the condition of his hair, prompting Jay to facepalm.

Trivia

Trivia[]

  • The sub-tagline, "Can the ninja control the chaos?" is identical to that from Issue 140, "Mech Madness!"
  • The comic is set after the Final Battle as the Stone Army is defeated. Additionally, to fit into the canon, it can be considered that the comic takes place after Season 5 as Zane appears in his Titanium, Nya has become the Water ninja and there are no exact implications of its placement on the timeline. This would also mean that the Great Devourer's venom has remained under the City Square for years where it mutated a plant over the time.

Errors[]

  • Zane expresses his like for "Burger Spritz", a burger-flavored coke, although he has no taste buds, as revealed in "The Missing."
