Overview

“I'm just so worried about him. Arin could be stuck alone with Ras and the Forbidden Five. That's like a greatest hits of warriors, and who even knows where Jay could be? He's out there, alone, and without his memories.”
Nya, Kai, and Wyldfyre are following up on that lead from the Explorer's Club. Zane is tracking all the gate paths. We're doing everything we can, Lloyd.”
Lloyd and Cole

Plot

Plot[]

Rox recounts a tale from the distant past in the Realm of Oni and Dragons, where a war erupted between the two races. Following the war, Thunderfang, the general of the Dragon army, emerged as an infamous figure. He possessed storm powers, which he amplified by consuming the souls of his enemies. Thunderfang believed that his numerous victories in battle granted him the right to ascend to the status of a Source Dragon. However, when this aspiration was rejected, he retaliated by unleashing the Winds of Chaos upon the City of Temples, intent on annihilating the devoted followers of the Source Dragons. Fortunately, the Arc Dragon of Focus intervened, wielding powers that countered Thunderfang's chaos. In a climactic battle, the Arc Dragon triumphed, banishing Thunderfang to the depths of the First Realm, where he has remained shackled for millennia. Yet, Rox asserts that even those who are bound may one day be free.

At the Crossroads, Sora rides Riyu while he pushes a cart full of pies with his mouth. Lobbo flies over to them and Sora talks to him about how Arin is still missing. She hands Lobbo a slice of a pie which causes him to have a total system shutdown. She continues handing pies to others, but when they eat the pies, they spit them out, run away and scream. She tastes her own pie and vomits into a trash can before throwing the rest of it away.

In a flashback, Jay gives Nya a rose and hugs her. In the present, Nya and Kai bicker about him popping his lips while they walk towards an area said to have a lightning user in its vicinity. While Nya expresses her worries about Jay's lost memories, Kai continues popping his lips, causing them to argue even more. Wyldfyre eventually gets their attention and points to a lightning bolt in the sky. Kai stops Nya from rushing in, reminding her of Jay's shattered goodness and tells Wyldfyre to stay back.

At the Monastery of Spinjitzu, Lloyd laments to Cole about Arin and Jay's unknown whereabouts and how it worries him. Cole reminds Lloyd that they are trying as hard as they can to find them. He tells Lloyd he is heading off to the Land of Lost Things to search for Arin and Jay with the Finders. He assures Lloyd that they will find them and brings up Master Wu. Lloyd wonders why Wu caused the Merge and if Wu is departed.

Cole leaves and Lloyd walks outside to see Frak practicing on the training course. Frak breaks off a piece of the course and Alfonzo Frohicky commands him to stop. Frak apologizes and asks Lloyd if he did something wrong. He tells Lloyd he channeled his rage and hate. This leads to Lloyd explaining to him how there is more than one source of strength, adding how physical strength alone is not always the best way to fight. Seconds later, Sora and Riyu arrive at the Monastery, and she asks Frak to help her make pies since Frak taught Arin. Frak accepts and is elated to do so.

In the Forest of Spirits, Nya and Kai stumble upon Lightning-Tides performing their Lightning-Tide Community Ceremony. The Tides, which were stacked in a pyramid, fall over. They start to attack Kai and Nya, believing they ruined the ceremony.

Back at the monastery, Frak and Sora take out their pies from the oven. Sora takes a bite out of her burnt-looking pie and immediately spits it out. Frak tries to comfort her when the pie deflates. Frak starts to make another pie, and they talk about puppets. Sora assured Frak that the puppet Intelligent George talked about is nothing to worry about. Zane walks in on them and says he has had no luck finding P.I.X.A.L. or Arin. The oven dings and they open it to witness Sora's pie explode. Zane then suddenly rushes to the hangar bay and Sora and Frak follow him. Zane replays the pie explosion, much to Sora's dismay. Zane explains how the pie explosion reminded him of random variables of the portal gates he had not accounted for. Using that data, he discovered the general area Arin may be located.

Meanwhile, Kai and Nya are in a jail cell made from a rock while being tried by the Lightning-Tides of the Court. The Lightning-Tide prosecutor makes accusations against the two ninja. The defense makes no case for them but instead adds another charge to their case. The judge passes a sentence of 1,003 Zappings. Nya tries to explain the situation, but Kai breaks out and starts blasting fire at the Lightning-Tides. The Tides throw Vengestone at Kai and throw him back into the cell.

Elsewhere, Lloyd, Frak, Zane, Sora, Riyu, and Zanth land in a small neighborhood. Sora knocks on a house door and asks the person there about Arin, but the person tells her she will bring its wrath on them and slams the door. Suddenly, they hear Zanth roar and run over to see what is happening. They find Dorama's puppet attacking her, much to Frak's horror. The puppet starts shooting at them with lasers from its eyes, a new ability it gained.

At the Lightning-Tides' village, Kai asks the Lightning-Tide Prosecutor where they found the Vengestone. Wyldfyre shows up and pretends to be a Lava-Tide with a pardon from the Lava-Tide President. The Lightning-Tide Leader tells the other Lightning-Tides to throw rocks at her.

Someplace else, the five ninja fight Dorama's puppet. All of a sudden, Frak notices a glow coming from a hole in the back of the puppet's head. He climbs into the hole, wailing and yelling in terror while Zane, Sora, and Lloyd keep it distracted. Frak discovers a blade lodged in the puppet's head. He pulls it out and the puppet powers down. The three ninja pull out the terrified Frak from the puppet's head and the residents of the neighborhood thank them for taking it down. Lloyd decides they should keep the blade before Sora finds Arin's grapple and tracks on the ground. Riyu sniffs the tracks, and they start to follow them.

At the Lightning-Tide court, Kai, Nya, and Wyldfyre stand in a jail cell as they watch the Lightning-Tides discuss the number of zaps the three ninja should receive. Nya starts to explain how they interrupted the ceremony on accident while looking for Jay. The touching story makes the Lightning-Tides cry, causing their leader to let only Nya out. This forces her to use her power over water to get Kai and Wyldfyre out. They run away as one of the Tides puts up a wanted poster of the three of them.

Meanwhile, a truck drives through the Forest of Spirits when the Forbidden Five land in front of it. Zarkt blasts the truck, Kur decays the two people who were inside it, and Drix sends a swarm of insects after them. Rox commands the rest of the five to loot the truck for supplies so they can go to the First Land and unchain Thunderfang.

Trivia

Trivia[]

Continuity[]

  • This is the first beginning of a season part in which neither Arin nor Ras physically appear.
  • The shot of Thunderfang falling into the abyss in the First Land to be imprisoned matches the shot of Garmadon falling from Ninjago down into the Underworld to be banished as seen in "Battle Between Brothers".
  • Cole mentioning he has history knowing what Departed Souls really are is referring to the time he become a ghost in Possession and his interactions with Morro and Yang.
  • The music that plays when Lloyd is talking to Frak about his fighting style, is a new rendition of his Revealing the Green Ninja theme.
  • It’s possible that after the explosion of the Cloud Kingdom portal gate, the Forbidden Five were sent to the Wyldness since that is where they are when they show up at the end of the episode.
  • The wastelands the ninja fight Dorama's puppet in physically border the First Land, however it is later revealed in "Conspiracy!" that the desert is part of the Sea of Sand, since Ninjago Island only border's Imperium, it appears that the desert was moved near the First Land following the Merge, similar to a section of Stiix as seen in "Flying Lessons."

Cultural references[]

  • Kai popping his lips to pass the time, which annoys Nya is similar to Donkey's lip popping, which annoys Shrek in Shrek 2.
  • Nya yelling "Hold it!" during the Lightning-Tide court case was a reference to Ace Attorney.

Errors[]

  • Sora’s right arm seems to clip through her left arm twice before Zane appears for the first time in the episode.[6]
