The Dragon Thieves

The Dragon Thieves[]

Following the Search for the Golden Weapons, the Ninja have successfully collected the four Golden Weapons and befriended the four elemental dragon guardians, who now resided alongside them at the Monastery of Spinjitzu. Although the threat of Lord Garmadon's inevitable return remained, the ninja have since relegated themselves to playing video games and fighting to see who could earn the highest score. On this day, Nya crushed all opposition as she, Kai, Jay, and Cole played together. Zane on the other hand abstained from such games and even voiced his apprehension to Wu, suggesting that they should be preparing for Garmadon's return, not spending all of their time relaxing. Unfortunately for Zane, Wu took no issue with his pupils enjoying a bit of respite, remarking that rest and relaxation were just as important.

Later that night, Zane informed Jay that it was the latter's turn to secure the monastery for the night. Although Jay agreed to take his turn on patrol, after some thought, he instead went to bed, believing that nothing was going to happen tonight anyway, so why bother waste time? Unfortunately, Jay's assertions proved to be premature, for tonight, Wyplash and another Skulkin had infiltrated the Monastery in search of a way to inflict payback upon the ninja. Having noticed that two of the dragon stables weren't properly secured, the two bone heads hitched themselves atop of Shard and Flame, waking up the dragons who then flew around the monastery, howling as they did so.

Awoken by the sound of their dragons howling, the ninja rushed into the Monastery's courtyard to see Flame and Shard flying off with Skulkin sitting atop their saddles. It would not take very long for Zane to realize who was at fault here and he was quick to call out Jay for failing to properly perform his security checks. Although Jay admitted his wrongdoing and whined that the ninja could hate him all they wanted, Zane clarified that he didn't consider Jay a failure for making a mistake, as a mistake only became a failure when one gives up on correcting it. With that, the ninja rushed down to the stables to mount Rocky and Wisp to pursue the fleeing Skulkin.

Hot on their tails, the Ninja pursued the Skulkin to Jamanakai Village, where Kai managed to defeat the Skulkin Warrior to retake Flame's reigns. Seeing his comrade fall, Wyplash redirected Shard in another direction, taking the ninja past a forest where a still living Samukai commanded a fleet of Skull Trucks, all lying in wait to ambush the ninja! As Samukai's forces diverted the ninja's attention, Wyplash commanded Shard to open a portal to the Underworld and began to fly towards it. Meanwhile, the Ninja commanded their dragons to unleash their elemental breath upon Samukai's forces, obliterating them and giving Zane an opening to confront Wyplash. Leaping towards Shard, Zane kicked the Skulkin General of Ice out of the saddle and reigned in Shard before he could pass through the portal to the Underworld.

The next day, the ninja relaxed once more with video games, with Nya once again dominating the competition. As Zane entered the room, Jay begged him to play, emphasizing that he was their last hope of beating Nya. This time, Zane agreed to relax with his friends, but was defeated by Nya merely seconds later.

Trivia[]

  • The fact that Nya is with the ninja means that the comic takes place after the Pilot episodes. However, it also features alive Samukai, which makes the comic non-canon.
  • All of the original four Ninja, and Wu, appear in their legacy uniforms but Nya appears in her original casual outfit design.
  • Nya is shown to enjoy and excel in video games despite being portrayed consistently throughout the series as usually hating them.
