Shard was an Ice Dragon, the guardian of the Shurikens of Ice and Zane's pet.
After merging with the other three dragons, Shard was eventually caught by the Dragon Hunters and killed so his skeletal remains could be used as the throne for Iron Baron.[1]

Background[]
Originally from the First Realm, Shard was placed in the Ice Temple in Ninjago by Master Wu to guard the Shurikens of Ice.[2]
King of Shadows[]
When the ninja arrived at the Frozen Wasteland, they discovered the Shurikens of Ice, guarded by Shard. They took the Shurikens but Zane was frozen in the process. They slid out, running from him, and hit an ice column, where the ice surrounding Zane was broken.
Weapons of Destiny[]
After Nya and Kai escaped the Fire Temple, Shard, along with the other dragons, was brought and ridden by Zane into the Underworld.
Rise of the Snakes[]
At some point, dragon pens were carved into the mountain underneath the Monastery of Spinjitzu and Shard began living there with Flame, Wisp and Rocky under the care of the ninja.
When the ninja learned that Lord Garmadon had apparently returned, Zane mounted Shard and flew him to Jamanakai Village, racing the other ninja along the way. After the threat had been discovered to be merely Lloyd Garmadon, Zane flew him back to the monastery. When the Hypnobrai attacked the village later in the day, Zane once again rode on him as transport there.

Zane ordered Shard to put out the fire that burned down the Monastery of Spinjitzu.
Snakebit[]
Shard and his three dragons companions left the ninja to fly to the Spirit Coves to begin their transformation into the Ultra Dragon.
Prior to Hunted[]
At some point after the events of The Final Battle, Shard, now the Ultra Dragon, returned to the Realm of Oni and Dragons after one final mission with Lloyd and some time later was hunted down and killed by the Dragon Hunters and his head became a decoration of Iron Baron for his throne.

- He appeared in LEGO Battles: Ninjago as a Story Mode boss and as a boss in Spinjitzu Smash!.
- He was the smallest of the original dragons.
- In his LEGO set, he only has three wing blades for each arm and no saddle.
- A Lightning Dragon in Mask of the Sensei resembles Shard's set form. Ironically, Shard is an Ice Dragon.
- Shard was Zane's first dragon, the second being the Titanium Dragon.
- In "The Day of the Dragon," P.I.X.A.L. mentions how Zane was never afraid of dragons and he used to have one, indirectly referring to him.
- Despite being white with orange accents in the sets, he was actually light blue with white accents in the show.
- Shard disliked summer and preferred cool breezes.[3]
