Crystastrophe[]

When the Overlord moved the Crystal Island across the rice field, he unleashed an army of Crystal Warriors, which turned some of the farmers into crystal zombies.

A Lesson in Anger[]

A Ninjago City citizen ran in the way of a few Crystal Warriors and was turned into a crystal zombie, as discovered by Gayle Gossip and Vinny during a news broadcast. Later, the New Ninja attempted to fight the Crystal Warriors, but were quickly defeated and turned into crystal zombies.

Return of the Ice Emperor[]

When Hounddog McBrag chased after Lloyd and Garmadon in the sewers, he ran into two crystal-infected Hypnobrai, but was saved by Lloyd.

Safe Haven[]

As Kai, Cole, and Skylor tried to accompany Jake to safety, they were eventually ambushed by several crystallized citizens, though they were saved by some of the paperboys.

Distress Calls[]

As Cole, Vinny and Blazey drove to the Ninjago News Center building, they passed through some crystal zombies. Under the sewers, Garmadon and Lloyd also ran into more crystal-infected Hypnobrai.

Dragon Form[]

While part of the Resistance fought off the entirety of the Crystal army, Ultra Violet, Killow, and Ronin were ultimately turned into crystal zombies.

Roots[]

As the Overlord moved the Crystal Island above Ninjago City with the central crystal, the ninja, in their Dragon Forms, used their now-purified Golden Weapons to fire a golden blast at the Crystal Temple. Although the temple's blast was strong enough to overpower the ninja and crystalize them, the power of the Weapons created the Golden Ultra Dragon, which Lloyd used to defeat the Overlord for good. As a result, the Crystal Island was destroyed, diminishing the Overlord's power and his crystals while purifying those who were crystalized.

Appearance and abilities[]

By coming into contact with infectious crystals by mere touch or getting blasted from either the Dragonides, the members of the Crystal Council, the Crystal Warriors, being harmed by the crystal weapons,^[2][3] or being caught in blasts from the Crystal Island,^[4] victims would become crystalized, having pink/purple crystalline skin complete with large crystals sprouting from their heads and around their necks, similar to that of a flower neck or fur collar. Their clothing is unaffected, though some may have certain parts of their clothes torn by crystals, an example being the Teal Ninja's left leg exposed to reveal crystals. Victims would also gain red eyes. Infected Serpentine, on the other hand, specifically the Hypnobrai, would have bright pink eyes and tongues, and their hands and legs would be covered in crystals. They also have crystal-like spikes protruding from their backs. Infected victims behave and act in movement similar to actual zombies, with no sense of mind and intelligence, only with the mindset of infecting others as well as animals, such as Wu's chicken. They also seem to be incapable of speech and only moan and groan.

Victims that are hit with blasts and get crystalized/zombified can also become paralyzed for some time after awhile, as shown with Ultra Violet, Killow, Ronin, and the four original ninja (Jay, Zane, Kai and Cole). There seems to be no apparent cure or antidote for those who have been infected, other than the destruction of the Overlord's physical form and his power over crystals.
