Plot
Plot[]
With his wanderings having led him deep within the Cave of Change, Kai fought hard for his life against a ferocious Centipede monster, but was defeated and cocooned by the giant beast.
After some time, Kai cut himself free from the cocoon and began to wander the cave in search of an exit while evading the attention of the hundred legged beast. Finally catching a glimpse of sunlight, Kai rushed ahead only to discover to his dismay that this hole in the wall led only to a bottomless drop. Turning, Kai inspected the remains of an ancient, long rusted mech. After recognizing the symbol for Fire on its chest, Kai shared some of his elemental fire with the mech, and to his surprise, the mech flared to life as the rust was burned clean from its body.
Seemingly recognizing Kai, the Mech addressed him at first as "Master," before realizing Kai was not who it expected. Noticing a nearby cocoon with torn robes bearing the fire symbol on it, Kai inquired if the Mech's master had also been a Master of Fire as well. The Mech affirmed and projected an image of his master while speaking of his history with the cave, noting that it had failed to protect his master from the Centipede Monster that dwelt within the cave. Kai then informed the Mech that the monster still dwelled and he required the Mech's assistance in slaying the beast. In response, the Mech replied that his spear had been destroyed in the long ago battle, leaving him with nothing to fight with, and as he gazed upon the cocoon with his fallen master's belongings, added he had nothing to fight for. Unmoved by the Mech's words, Kai repaired and restored the spear, slamming it to the ground before the Mech, expressing that while he knew what it was like to lose those one cared about, if the Mech's master was indeed as great as the Mech claimed, he would want the Mech to fight on. Without waiting for an answer, Kai turned back to confront the Centipede Monster.
Confronting the creature at the entrance of the cave, Kai unsheathed his sword and ignited it, grabbing the monster's attention as he planned to fight. Before the monster could reach Kai, the Mech dived in and protected him, stating that he would not fail a Master of Fire twice and he had chosen to carry on. As the Mech and monster fought, both he and Kai realized the monster was actually the Mech's master, having long since been transformed into the same creature that had felled him long ago. Offering to spare the Mech the pain of killing his own master, Kai offered to inflict the final blow, but the Mech refused, stating that he owed this duty to his master. With a powerup of fire from Kai, the Mech thrusted his spear into his fallen master's chest, slaying him as his monstrous form was engulfed in flames.
Afterwards, Kai and the Mech gathered the fallen master's torn belongings and placed them atop a funerary pyre, burning them in honor of his memory as the Mech delivered a eulogy in remembrance of the great man he once was.
