Plot

Plot[]

After wandering in the Land of Monsters alongside the Mech for some time with no end or escape in sight, Kai began to slowly but surely lose hope. As his compass beeped, changing course once more, Kai threw the device to the ground in anger and frustration, lamenting that escape seemed impossible. When the Mech informed Kai that he still lacked a purpose, Kai snapped at the Mech, asking if he was to help the Mech discover that too now?! After realizing his words, Kai promptly apologized for his harsh tone, but bitterly admitted that he would do anything to end his wanderings. At that moment, Kai caught a glimpse of a familiar face seemingly standing in the distance. "Master?" he asked in disbelief.

Feeling hope for the first time in a long time, Kai began rushing after the specter of his missing Master, pleading with him to stay, for he had wandered these dangerous lands for what now felt like an eternity. In spite of the Mech's warnings, Kai rushed off after the specter, eventually arriving along the shores of a large lake. As the specter disappeared, Kai returned to his senses and gazed about the shoreline's foggy banks. At that moment, a flash of light appeared upon the surface of the water, and with wide eyes, Kai gasped as he saw the faces of his friends, master and, most of all, his sister. "You made it! You're safe! Come on, join us! It's finally over!" they said as Kai stared into the water with longing eyes. Without another moment of hesitation, Kai began to step towards the water's edge.

Before he could take his first step into the water, however, the Mech arrived and warned Kai not to proceed, for he sensed that something was wrong here. In response, Kai retorted that the Mech was only saying so because he needed Kai. Well, Kai didn't need him and after all his long, lonely wanderings, he was so tired and ready to go home. With that, Kai began wading ever deeper into the lake in pursuit of the "portal," completely mesmerized in his singular goal even as the Mech was suddenly attacked by a long tentacle reaching from deep within the fog.

Although the Mech was able to fight off the tentacle, spotting the silhouette of a massive Sea Beast looming in the fog in the process, he could proceed no further for his fire was nearly extinguished. Watching helplessly as Kai waded ever deeper into the lake, a green dragon flew by overhead and unleashed her breath upon the Sea Monster. Landing gracefully on the shoreline beside the Mech, the Dragon noted that Kai was the one who needed saving now. Upon the Mech's request, the Dragon breathed a burst of fire upon him, restoring his energy and strength, before preparing to save Kai from the Sea Monster. Her attack, however, would be cut short when she too saw a glimpse of what she desired most in the water's surface. "My baby...you're alive?" she asked in disbelief before beginning to wade into the water herself. Although the Mech urged the Dragon to restrain herself, warning that whatever she saw in the water's surface was not real, neither she nor Kai listened to him. At that moment, the Mech was greeted by his own vision: one of his fallen master. "Come, my pupil. We will find your purpose together," he urged to the Mech.

Although he longed to be reunited with his long deceased master, the Mech knew that what he saw was only an illusion. Thanking the apparition, the Mech resolved itself to protect Kai and the Dragon, immediately lunging into battle with the Sea Monster as he wedged himself between the monster's massive, snapping jaws. Unfortunately, the Mech's struggle quickly turned against him and the Sea Monster caught the Mech between its powerful jaws, snapping up the Mech's lower body. With Kai and the Dragon both sinking deeper into the lake and with no options left, the Mech activated his self destruct mechanism in a last ditch effort to save his allies. With a massive explosion, the Mech was no more, but in doing so, he also critically wounded the Sea Monster which now writhed and shrieked in pain as its entire body was engulfed in flames. Unable to sustain its illusions, Kai and the Dragon were restored to their senses and swam to escape to the lake's surface.

Desperate to prevent its prey from escaping completely, the Sea Monster attempted to grasp both with its powerful tentacles as they escaped to the surface of the lake. While it was able to briefly grab hold of the Dragon, this maneuver was far too little and too late. With a mighty blow, Kai felled the Sea Monster with his sword, ending its reign of terror over the lake.

As the sun now rose overhead, Kai and the Dragon sat alongside the shores of the lake, solemnly gazing out into the distance as the light of the sun dispersed the heavy fog that once covered these sandy banks. "I was wrong," started the Dragon as she finally admitted that Kai was right about what it took to survive in a place as dangerous as the Land of Monsters. Acknowledging the Dragon's change of heart, Kai asked her if she felt the fire that burned strongly within them, emphasizing that this was the same fire that fueled the Mech in his journey - the hope and determination to push forward in spite of insurmountable odds. Discovering a burned and torn fragment of the Mech's once majestic cloak, Kai wrapped it around himself as a cape before carrying onwards in his journey. "He did not fail, and neither will I." he said, vanishing beyond the horizon as the Dragon watched onwards.

Comparison of the Legacy of the Green Ninja intro group shot and Kai's illusion of the Ninja

Comparison of the Legacy of the Green Ninja intro group shot and Kai's illusion of the Ninja

  • The symbol in the title card is a Ninjargon 3.
    • In the Monstrosity compilation video, the title card is placed at the start of the episode, while in the episode version, it is placed after Kai sees the illusion of Wu.

Continuity[]

  • When Kai sees the reflection of the ninja in the lake, Nya, Cole and Zane appear in their original designs.
    • Additionally, the first two voices Kai hears of the ninja could potentially be Lloyd and Nya's voices, the two people Kai longs to see the most.
  • The reflection of the ninja that Kai sees in the lake shares similarities to the Legacy of the Green Ninja opening sequence:
    • Wu appearing to be sitting down in the front.
    • Cole behind Wu to the left.
    • Zane directly behind Wu.
    • Lloyd standing next to Wu with his arm placed over him.
    • Nya to the right next to Lloyd.
    • The only difference is Jay isn't positioned next to Nya like in the opening sequence but rather next to Wu.

Errors[]

  • The Fire Master is mistakenly referred to as "Wu" in the subtitles.
