Plot

Following The Merge, Kai found himself stranded in the dangerous Land of Monsters. Left completely alone, the Master of Fire spent every day struggling just to stay alive as he sought a way back home and to be reunited with his friends.
After a long time of solitary travel, Kai found himself caught up in a battle between a colossal creature and a green dragon. As he observed the fight, Kai saw that the giant creature only wanted to protect its egg, which the dragon seemed intent on destroying. With a sigh, the Master of Fire intervened and leapt atop the dragon, interrupting her attack run. Although the dragon protested Kai's intervention, angrily demanding to know how he could protect this giant monster, Kai retorted that as far as he could tell, the dragon was the only monster here. At that moment, the colossal creature struck both dragon and rider, flinging both far away.
Scrambling to his feet, Kai ignited his sword and held it before him to ward off the dragon, demanding answers for what he had just experienced. Obliging, the dragon revealed that the giant monster ate her own child some time ago when it devastated her homeland, leaving her bitter and without prospects for the future. Although she knew her actions were wrong, the dragon insisted on repaying the colossal beast in kind, by destroying its unborn young. In horror, Kai protested against the dragon's intended course of actions, though the dragon ignored him and set off on another attack run. As she neared the egg, Kai shouted out for her to stop, urging for her to look at herself and see what she would become if she carried out her mission of destruction. Heeding Kai's words, the dragon paused after glimpsing her own hate filled reflection in the egg's shining surface and broke off her attack. Kai's victory would be short lived, however, as the giant creature had now spotted him and was reaching down towards him. Fortunately, the green dragon had a change of heart and rushed in, rescuing Kai from the colossal beast.
As the pair sat beside a fire, Kai thanked the dragon for saving his life. The dragon however, dismissed Kai's gratitude, retorting that Kai's words had made her weak. In response, Kai quietly stated that if the dragon felt sparing children was a sign of weakness, then she had no idea what true strength was. Seemingly accepting Kai's retort, the dragon admitted to him that good people usually did not survive for long in the Land of Monsters, adding that she had come to believe it was impossible even to survive here while retaining one's heroism. As she flew off, Kai whispered under his breath his hope that the dragon was wrong.
