Rusty[1] (also known as the Fire Knight Mech or the Fire Tech Mech[2]) was a sentient Fire Battle Mech created by the Fire Master. At some point in the past, it failed to assist the Fire Master and vowed to never fail any Elemental Master of Fire again.
History
History[]
Background[]
At some point, Rusty was created by the Fire Master. One day, Rusty and the Fire Master went to investigate the Cave of Change, as his master noticed that the people going inside the cave were not returning. However, Rusty and its master would get attacked by a centipede monster and unfortunately, Rusty would lose the Fire Master to the creature.[3]
Fallen Master[]
After the Merge happened, Kai found Rusty inactive within the Cave of Change. As he inspects the mech, Rusty absorbs the fire from Kai’s sword and gets activated. The sentient mech initially welcomes back its master, only to feel grief once it remembered what happened. It tells Kai about its fallen master whom it had failed to protect. Kai needed the sentient mech’s strength to help fight the centipede monster, however Rusty believes that there is no longer anything to fight with and nothing to fight for. Kai notices a piece of Rusty’s broken spear on the ground. Kai was able to reforge the weapon and give it to Rusty.
As Kai was about to fight the centipede monster, Rusty stops it from charging towards the current Master of Fire with its repaired blade. Rusty vowed that it will not fail another fire wielder. They both realize that the centipede monster is Rusty’s master. Kai offers to finish it off for it. However, Rusty refused and once asked, Kai to lends his fire to the mech for it to use to slay the centipede monster in a powerful fire blast. After the battle, Kai and Rusty would retrieve the Fire Master’s roningasa, robes, and necklace, which would be burned in memory of him at a funeral pyre outside the Cave of Change.
False Light[]
After leaving the Cave of Change, Rusty wandered the Land of Monsters alongside Kai for some time. In their journey, Kai began to slowly but surely lose hope and faith in ever escaping, finally culminating in a furious outburst. When Rusty suggested that Kai's emotions were merely the epitome of the human condition, Kai lashed out at it and demanded to know why Rusty continued to follow him. In response, Rusty admitted that while Kai had reforged it, it was still in search of a purpose. This response only further infuriated the Master of Fire who derisively asked if he was expected to find that too. Kai apologized almost immediately afterwards, however, and Rusty did not seem to hold it against him.
When Kai ran after an apparition resembling his master, Wu, Rusty followed Kai to the banks of a large, foggy lake. Although it sensed that something was wrong here and attempted to warn Kai of the possible dangers, Kai ignored it, dismissing its concerns as "lies" intended to keep him in the Land of Monsters. Rusty then spotted the silhouette of the Gimon-Ogu looming within the fog and fought off one of the creature's tentacles, but depleted its stored fire in the process.
After Daidan landed alongside the shoreline and expressed an intention to help Kai, Rusty pleaded with the dragon to provide it with some of her fire - a request she obliged with. Unfortunately, Daidan too fell under the sway of the sea monster and began wading into the lake as well. When Rusty was confronted with an illusion of its own fallen master, whom it had personally slain some time ago, Rusty acknowledged but dismissed the illusion as a fantasy. Realizing now its purpose, Rusty propelled himself towards the sea monster and began to fight it, hoping to save its allies. Unfortunately, the monster would quickly turn the tide against Rusty, throwing him into the air and snapping up the lower half of its body in its jaws. Left with no other options, Rusty activated its self-destruct mechanism, destroying itself and sending its soul to the Spectral Lands but critically wounding and burning the sea monster in the process.
Functions
Functions[]
- Sentience - Despite being a mech, Rusty is capable of independent and free thought as well as speech.
- Spearmanship - Although Rusty possesses remarkable hand-to-hand combat abilities, its skills seem limited exclusively to wielding a spear, as it remarked after meeting Kai that since its spear was broken, it was unable to fight.
- Fire - Rusty possessed the elemental power of Fire.
- Pyrokinetic Absorption - Rusty could absorb fire from various sources such as Kai's fire sword or Daidan's pyrokinetic breath to use as an energy source.
- Self-Combustion - In addition, Rusty possesses a self-destruct mechanism hidden within its chest that may be activated when its spear is inserted. This function, when activated, releases all of the fire energy stored within Rusty as its power source in a massive fire explosion.
- Pyrokinetic Absorption - Rusty could absorb fire from various sources such as Kai's fire sword or Daidan's pyrokinetic breath to use as an energy source.
Appearance
Appearance[]
Rusty is a large, red mech that resembles the armor of a medieval European knight, with fire sprouting from his head to give the impression of a helmet with plumage. On the center of his chest is the symbol for the elemental power of Fire, and he has, on occasion, worn a large cloak draped along his shoulders that covers his entire body.
