History[]
Following Asa's abduction by the Lycan King, Garmadon, Mama Mawa, and the Children of the Wolf set off to the ruined city of Lupindor to rescue their kidnapped friend. After arriving at the Hall of Wolves - once the mighty Wolf Clan's seat of power, now the dwelling of the Lycan King - Garmadon ordered the children to stay behind while he looked for Asa. With some encouragement by Mama Mawa however, Zuri, the oldest of the children and their leader, disobeyed Garmadon's orders and instead ordered her friends to look for vantage points should an opportunity to confront the Lycan King reveal itself.
After some time, Garmadon discovered Asa wandering the halls of the ruined structure alone. Stepping out towards him, Garmadon was attacked by the Lycan King, provoking a battle between them. While Garmadon fought, Zuri saw an opportunity to strike and ordered her friends to attack now. As the four children pounced from their hiding spots, they struck at the Lycan King's Runes of Binding with Shatterspin, but failed to destroy the runes due to their mistimed attacks! In the distraction, Mama Mawa rushed forward to whisk Asa away, but this caught the attention of the Lycan King who then prepared one of his petrifying howls.
As he unleashed his attack towards Asa and Mama Mawa, the Children of the Wolf leapt in front of their youngest friend and shielded him from the blast, becoming petrified in his place. Saddened and angered by his friends' sacrifice, Asa viciously attacked the Lycan King with a powerful burst of Shatterspin, destroying all four runes of binding in the process. With the runes destroyed, the King's Spectral Crown returned to its corporeal state and Garmadon leapt forward to knock it from the monster's brow, where it landed at the feet of Mama Mawa. As it rolled up to her, Garmadon urged the elder to destroy the crown, but to his surprise, "Mama Mawa" instead put the crown upon "her" head and revealed their true identity as Zaiden Kane - the sorcerer responsible for the curse upon the Wyldness in the first place! While gloating, Kane revealed that they wanted Garmadon to destroy the runes of binding, for they had been in actuality, created by the Wolf Clan decades ago to lock the spectral crown away from Kane. With the runes now broken and the crown once again in their possession, Kane now controlled the Lycan King once again and could resume their conquest of the Wyldness.
With no options left, Garmadon and Asa fled into the streets of Lupindor towards the Shadow Dojo with Kane in pursuit. The two however, were able to delay their pursuers by destroying one of the city's stone bridges, casting Kane and the Lycan King into the waters surrounding the flooded city. After reaching the Shadow Dojo, Garmadon prepared himself to ring the Gong of Shattering, but hesitated knowing the curse that befell Argus that transformed him into the Lycan King. Bracing himself, Garmadon warned Asa that should anything happen to him, the boy was to run to the Stone Wolves and flee into the portal to Ninjago. Before he could ring however, Garmadon was struck by a vision of his future self: a demonic figure that begged for Garmadon to strike the gong and to cast aside his humanity so that the evil building up inside of him could be unleashed! Horrified by this vision, Garmadon dropped the Mallet of Shattering and refused to ring the gong. Watching his teacher collapse, Asa stepped up and comforted him before placing a wolf mask over his own face and ringing the gong.
At that moment, Kane and the Lycan King burst into the Shadow Dojo, gloating all the way. Their gloating however, would be cut short when they saw a glimpse of Asa wearing a wolf mask that now glowed red and disintegrated into the boy's body. Having unlocked the true power of Shatterspin, Asa propelled himself into battle with Kane and the Lycan King, striking at the Lycanthrope first. In the struggle that followed, Asa snatched the spectral crown from Kane's head and crushed it with Shatterspin, releasing its energies in a blinding burst of white light. Resigned to their fate, Kane begged for Garmadon to take care of Buck Buck before being disintegrated alongside Asa and the Lycan King.
When the light faded, Garmadon rushed forward but only found a burned scrap of Asa's clothing with nothing else remaining of the young child. Heartbroken, Garmadon watched as sunlight shined through the eaves of the Shadow Dojo for the first time in a long time as Argus' curse upon the Wyldness was finally lifted and all those petrified by the Lycan King were restored to life.
