History[]

Background[]

Millennia ago, the Shadow Dojo was the base of operations for the Wolf Clan and their leaders, the Forbidden Five. Following the Exile of the Forbidden Five by Egalt and Rontu, Lord Argus had briefly ruled the Wolf Clan and was once visited in the dojo by Zaiden Kane, who convinced the powerless man to strike the Gong to perform Shatterspin and become the sixth member of the Five. However, Argus was cursed and became the Lycan King. Under Kane's control, he cursed the Wyldness and petrified most of the wolf warriors before Kane was expelled from the Wyldness by the remaining warriors.

Following the defeat of Kane, Dragon Masters outlawed the Gong and the Mallet of Shattering as well as the Theroxian language and all teachings associated with the Five. They permanently sealed off the Shadow Dojo, ensuring that it would remain closed unless someone possessed the energy of a Source Dragon to unlock the entrance.^[1] Nevertheless, there existed alternative methods to gain entry into the dojo without the Dragon Masters' knowledge.^[2]

Shatterspin[]

The Wyldness[]

Garmadon used an amulet that had once belonged to Chen, which turned out to be the key to the Shadow Dojo. With the amulet in hand, he successfully unlocked the entrance to the dojo, only to find it deserted and in ruins. The sight confirmed Garmadon's belief that the Wyldness was indeed a cursed land. In a fit of rage, he hurled the Mallet of Shattering at the Gong of Shattering. The moment the gong echoed through the dojo, it sent Garmadon flying out of the Shadow Dojo.

Destinies[]

After being sent to forage for food, Asa and Buck Buck pursued a rabbit into the Shadow Dojo. There, the boy wandered its halls until arriving at the chamber that held the Gong of Shattering. While there, Asa was confronted by the ghosts of the Wolf Mask Warriors, who sensed he has an elemental power and implored for him to ring the Gong of Shattering and to claim his destiny. Unfortunately, Asa was overwhelmed by this experience and fainted, leaving him to be abducted by the Lycan King.

Homecoming[]

Fleeing from Lupindor, Garmadon and Asa made their way to the Shadow Dojo to unleash the true power of Shatterspin, having been left with no other options in their fight against Zaiden Kane and the Lycan King. When Garmadon hesitated to ring the gong, Asa donned a Wolf Mask and rang it, granting him the true power of Shatterspin. When Kane and the Lycan King entered the Dojo, Asa attacked them both with Shatterspin, ultimately succeeding in destroying the Spectral Crown, but at the cost of his own life while taking Kane and the Lycan King down with him. Once the dust cleared, Garmadon stood alone in the Dojo's dark halls as sunlight peaked through its eaves for the first time in a long time.

Between Shatterspin and Dragons Rising, Season 2[]

At some point, the Shadow Dojo would be resealed once again.

The Blood Moon[]

Lord Ras and Jordana enter the Shadow Dojo using Energy extracted from the Source Dragon of Energy in Imperium. Inside, Jordana reads the scrolls of the Forbidden Five, which she doesn't understand. Some time later, Cinder appeared at the Shadow Dojo with the Mallet of Shattering.

The Forest of Spirits[]

The wolf warriors gathered around the Shadow Dojo when they were preparing for the Ritual of the Blood Moon. Ras left to retrieve the spell from Arin when Jordana arrived empty-handed.

Rising Ninja[]

The Wolf Clan conducted the Blood Moon Ritual in the Shadow Dojo, leading to a battle with the ninja, who planned to rescue the Writers of Destiny from Ras' sacrificial plans to free the Forbidden Five. In the fight, Ras knocked Kai into the portal to the Nether-Space, releasing Nokt. Just as Ras was about to sacrifice more of the ninja, Arin intervened by hurling the severed hand of the Elemental Fire Mech, which Sora used her Elemental Powers on to strike Ras, ending the ritual. However, Rox extracted her soul and possessed Jordana. As the ritual unraveled, Ras called his master for help. In an instant, the master transported the Wolf Clan and the Shadow Dojo to the Land of Eternal Dawn, leaving only remnants behind in the Forest of Spirits.

The Shape of Motion[]

A training session took place inside the Shadow Dojo. Cinder and Nokt were fighting to train their Shatterspin technique, surrounded by the Wolf Mask Warriors who contemplate them. When Nokt was about to hurt Cinder by attacking him while he is already down, Ras enters the dojo with Rox, who was possessing Jordana, and activates his control implant to stop him. After a tense discussion between Nokt and Ras, the latter urgeed them to resume training in order to be ready for the Tournament of the Sources.

Dragons Rising, Season 4[]

Birthright[]

After obtaining another Source Dragon Icon, Ras used a portal gate to travel to the Shadow Dojo, which he had started using as his base once again.

  • It was also called the "Temple of the Forbidden Five" in a soundtrack for Dragons Rising Season 2.^[5]
• According to Tri Vuong, the amulet that Garmadon used to open the Shadow Dojo contains a Source Dragon's scale, explaining why the amulet is an alternative way to open the dojo, which is only supposed to be accessible with Source Dragon energy.^[6]
