Overview
The Mallet of Shattering is a Chaos-infused mallet that is paired with the Gong of Shattering. When the Gong is struck, the mallet enables the wielder to strengthen the Wolf Clan by channeling Chaos, either by being infused with it or enabling Elemental Masters to perform Shatterspin. It is currently stored in the Temple Vault in the City of Temples following the Wolf Clan's defeat after the Tournament of the Sources.[1]
History
History[]
Background[]
Lord Argus ringing the gong.
The Mallet of Shattering was once used by the Forbidden Five, who used it with the Gong of Shattering to empower their army of Wolf Mask Warriors. After they were banished to the Nether-Space, Lord Argus took over the Wolf Clan and was approached by Zaiden Kane, who manipulated him into ringing the gong with the mallet, which he did. By this act, Argus was turned into the Lycan King and all of the Wyldness was cursed into half-existence. After that, the mallet was sealed alongside the gong and all the Wolf Masks inside the Shadow Dojo, never to be opened again.[2]
Shatterspin[]
The Wyldness[]
Garmadon throws the mallet at the Gong, enraged.
Thousands of years after, Garmadon entered the Shadow Dojo and saw the mallet lying on the ground. He picked up the mallet and threw it in a fit of rage. The mallet hit the Gong of Shattering and rang it. The force from the hit pushed Garmadon through the walls of the dojo and further into the Forest of Spirits.
The Lycan King[]
After being attacked by the Lycan King, Garmadon and the Children of the Wolf took the Mallet of Shattering and went to see Mama Mawa. Then she told the story of the mallet, Forbidden Five, and the Shadow Dojo to Garmadon.
Destinies[]
Garmadon continued to hold the mallet as he taught the Children of the Wolf. Sitting near a shallow river, Garmadon walked around cautiously with the Mallet on his back. Warby hid in some tree roots and tried to grab the scarf tied to the mallet, but Garmadon avoided his leap, causing him fall to the floor. When the four children destroyed the trees surrounding Garmadon before pouncing on him, he simply smacked them away with the mallet and declared they were close but not close enough. However, Garmadon realized the scarf is gone, and Iriel held it up, asking if they won. With a hearty laugh, Garmadon admitted to their victory and told them they are ready to face the Lycan King.
Following this training session, Garmadon held the mallet against his back as he, Mama Mawa, and the Children of the Wolf made preparations to find the Lycan King.
Homecoming[]
Pursuing the Lycan King to Lupindor. Garmadon wielded the mallet in combat against the lycanthrope after encountering him in the Hall of Wolves. Once the Runes of Binding were destroyed, Garmadon leapt upwards and knocked the Spectral Crown from the Lycan King's brow with the mallet, calling out to Mama Mawa to destroy it. Unfortunately, the wise guide revealed that she had truly been Zaiden Kane all this time and betrayed Garmadon, donning the spectral crown themself to resume their conquest of the Wyldness. Garmadon and Asa were then forced to flee to the Shadow Dojo with the mallet in hand.
Arriving at the Gong of Shattering's chamber, Garmadon held the mallet and braced himself for the risk of being turned into a wolf beast like Argus had been. Before he could strike it however, Garmadon was struck by a vision of his future self, demanding for him to ring the gong and unleash his inner evil. At that moment, Asa stepped up and took the mallet from Garmadon while donning a Wolf Mask. The boy then rang the gong himself, and since he was an elemental master, he was granted the true power of Shatterspin as the wolf mask crumbled and was absorbed into his body.
After the Wolf Clan's curse was dissolved following Asa's sacrifice to destroy the Spectral Crown, Zaiden, and the Lycan King, the Wolf warriors entrusted the Mallet of Shattering to Garmadon, telling him to bring it back to Ninjago and prevent it from falling into the wrong hands.
Eventually, the mallet changed hands multiple times before entering the possession of Hantro after the Merge, who then sold it to Fedulian, who in turn put it in his shop in the Crossroads.

Trivia
Trivia[]
- The Mallet of Shattering's handle is adapted from the Icon of the Source Dragon of Strength in LEGO form, while its head bears resemblance to the Imperial Hammer's head, albeit being smaller in comparison.
- The characters in the show never explicitly referred to the Mallet of Shattering by its name. Instead, it was simply called a mallet paired with the Gong of Shattering. The only time where it was referred to as the Mallet of Shattering, apart from the sets, was in Shatterspin.
