History
History[]
Background[]
During the Long Winter, the river got frozen by the Ice Emperor. Even after the Liberation of the Never-Realm, the Boreal River continued to be frozen.
A Frozen Scar[]
During their journey to the Abyss of Eternal Night in the Never Kingdoms, the ninja reached the Boreal River. Beniro explained that it had become covered in corrupted Ice during the Long Winter, and after the realm's liberation, it remained frozen by the corrupted Ice, as a vestige of the Ice Emperor. Although Zane suggested going around the river because of the danger it posed, Lloyd pointed out that the Weapon of Desolation's containment unit was becoming increasingly unstable, forcing them to cross it instead. Their attempt to fly over the frozen river failed, leaving them no choice but to travel across its icy surface.
As they crossed, the Weapon released Source Energy, corrupting Beniro and compelling him to seize the Weapon and flee across the ice. The ninja gave chase, but the Weapon became lodged in the river's corrupted Ice. Reacting with the river's Elemental Power of Ice, it activated and began creating numerous Ice Monsters.
During the battle, Zane struggled with his fear of being corrupted by the ice as he attempted to recover the Weapon. After Zilvar returned from the monastery and rescued him from Beniro, Zane was able to free his teammates from the ice while Zilvar successfully reclaimed the Weapon of Desolation.

Etymology
Etymology[]
The name Boreal River comes from the word "boreal," which means "north" or "northern regions." This term is also linked to Boreas, the ancient Greek god of the north wind. It also shares its name with Boreal, the Ice Emperor's dragon, which is likely the reference behind the name of river.
