Never Kingdoms

Overview

This article is about the realm. For the episode, see The Never-Realm.
“People inside the land can leave and return, and those who went there before the Merge can enter again. Everyone else gets stopped by an invisible barrier outside the land.”

The Never Kingdoms, formerly known as the Never-Realm, was one of the realms before the Merge, being the most distant one from Ninjago, and is now part of the Merged Lands. Once ravaged by the Ice Emperor, it is a snowy land that is inhabited by humans, Formlings, Yetis, Frost Wolves and more.

After the Merge, it is only possible for people who inhabited or visited the realm prior to the event to enter it. If they aren't inhabitants or never visited the realm, they will be shunned out by a magical barrier at the border.

History

History[]

Prior to the series[]

The realm came into existence at an unknown point in time. At one point, the First Spinjitzu Master was briefly stranded there during his travel between realms, and bestowed the Elemental Power of Form to a human woman he selected as his guardian. He barely managed to escape back to Ninjago and later warned Wu that he is forbidden from entering the realm, as no one else knew how to escape.[2] The First Master of Form would take on many animal forms and came to be held in high esteem by a nameless tribe.[3]

When time's name was new, a tribe of nomadic storyteller Dragons called the Mythica traveled from realm to realm, sharing epic story-songs, until they were hunted to extinction by the Oni, who wanted to silence their stories. But some of their tales were handed down by word of mouth as myths, including the tale of Wojira.[4]

The First Spinjitzu Master later returned to the Never-Realm after the First Master of Form got a cursed thorn stuck in her paw while taking the form of an animal and helped break the curse on her by destroying the thorn but accidentally created the Abyss of Eternal Night in the process. After being freed of her curse, the Elemental Master bestowed some of her power to the nameless tribe, giving birth to the Formlings whom the First Spinjitzu Master forbid from traveling to the abyss[3] and a tradition known as the Choosing where the Formlings would find their animal forms.[5]

At some point, a Formling King led his army across the Abyss of Eternal Night after ignoring the warnings of his son, resulting in the king and half his army falling into it.[6]

At some point, the village of the Formlings was attacked by a Yeti which led to the Formling boy Fritz being lost and forgotten by his people and ending up in the Land of Lost Things.[7]

Many years later, a Formling man by the name of Vex, who was unable to find his animal form, left his village after thinking that his kind taunted him behind his back, apparently making him the first Formling in history.[5]

After Vex failed to persuade king Grimfax into destroying the Formlings and was thrown out of the latter's castle, Vex attempted to find food until he found Zane, who landed in the Never-Realm along with one of the Monastery's defense systems, Titan Mech, and the Second Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu after being banished there and 60 years into the past[8] by Aspheera. Vex immediately started to stalk him through the realm, when he saw and was amazed by his power of Ice. After seeing him use the Scroll to defeat an Ice Bird, he tried to use it, only to find out it doesn't work as he has no powers. With no other choice, Vex erased Zane's memories by removing the plug that was connected to the mech and claimed that he is his advisor. Vex manipulated Zane by telling him the Scroll is his scepter and proclaimed him as the Ice Emperor before they headed for Grimfax's castle and overthrew him. After taking his throne, the Ice Emperor proceeded to plunge the realm into an eternal winter while forcing Grimfax and his soldiers to serve him as enforcers of his reign.[9]

At some point during his reign, the Ice Emperor created an army of Sword Masters and Archers who along with Grimfax and his soldiers would come to be known as the Blizzard Samurai and would become feared across the realm. The Ice Emperor later created a dragon named Boreal who he used to guard his castle.

Vex persuaded the Ice Emperor to freeze his former village, which the latter did with Boreal, leaving Akita and Kataru the only survivors, the latter of which was taken by Boreal as a prize. From that day, Akita swore revenge on Vex and his master for their actions.[5]

During the Ice Emperor's reign, most human tribes moved to the south to avoid the harsh weather and Blizzard Samurai, with the Fishers becoming the only remaining folk.[10] Many Ice Dragons migrated to the realm due to liking the cold weather.[1] For unknown reasons, the Ice Emperor committed a genocide against the Yetis during his reign which left Krag as the sole survivor.[11] The Ice Emperor at some point froze a pair wolf monsters and the giant griffin during his reign.[12]

At some point, the nomadic Tiger Tribe warrior Zilvar settled in the Never-Realm with the Fishers but eventually left for unknown reasons.[3]

Season 11: Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitzu[]

Under Siege[]

After P.I.X.A.L. activated the Monastery of Spinjitzu's water cannons and rubber shuriken launchers to prevent the Elemental Cobras from burning down the door, Aspheera used her fire and Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu augmented staff to send the defenses to the Never-Realm and 60 years into the past.[8]

Vengeance is Mine![]

While fighting P.I.X.A.L. in the hanger bay, Aspheera managed to overpower the Titan Mech and fired a magic blast at it which P.I.X.A.L. blocked with the mech's left arm, causing the arm to be sent to the Never-Realm and into the past.[8]

While fighting Wu with Forbidden Spinjitzu, Aspheera attempted to banish him to the Never-Realm with a magic blast but missed and instead hit the disabled Titan Mech, banishing it instead and sending it into the past.[8]

After being defeated and frozen by Zane, Aspheera used her free left arm to fire another magic blast from her scepter at Wu but Zane body blocked it, resulting in him being sent to the Never-Realm and into the past.[8]

Later, the Titan Mech was abandoned in the Never-Realm along with Zane's footprints were seen in the snow leading away from the area.

An imprisoned Aspheera later informed Wu of where Zane was sent and the old master was horrified to learn this while Aspheera gloated to the old master about having the last laugh.

A Cold Goodbye[]

P.I.X.A.L. used Aspheera's staff to send the ninja and the Land Bounty to the Never-Realm to rescue Zane.

The Never-Realm[]

Once the Land Bounty arrived in the Never-Realm, it crashed in an unknown part of the N Realm and was heavily damaged, but not before the ninja were able to escape. Lloyd asked Cole if he still has the Traveler's Tea, but Cole dropped it when he almost fell. Kai blamed Cole, but Lloyd broke up the argument and suggested that they should head down before they all freeze to death.

However, while on the way, the ninja encountered frozen people and were attacked by Frost Wolves until they rescued by a mysterious group of three and were told to come with them.

Once the ninja left with the group, they went to an unknown village where they met Sorla and learned that Zane was "captured" by the Ice Emperor. After Lloyd and the other ninja disagreed with Sorla that Zane is lost, the latter said that their friend is fortunate and warned them that General Vex and the Blizzard Samurai will come for them.

Meanwhile, at the Castle of Ice, the Ice Emperor commanded his army to destroy the ninja and their allies after being persuaded by Vex.

Fire Maker[]

Uthaug and Boma warned the other Fishers that the Blizzard Samurai are coming, so they create a fort by sunrise.

The Blizzard Samurai attacked, but they are unable to destroy the ninja; however, Grimfax was able to take out the Hearth Fire with his axe. In the evening, the Ice Fishers sat around the empty Fire, freezing in the winter night. Kai continued to blame himself for not having his Elemental Powers before trying once more. This time, he was able to create the Fire, and the Fishers chanted "Fire Maker" due to his success.

An Unlikely Ally[]

Lloyd headed off to find Zane in the Castle of Ice while the rest of the ninja stay behind to guard the Great Lake. While Lloyd was in the mountains, he was ambushed by Blizzard Samurai. He saved himself when he created an avalanche by shouting. Akita, in her wolf form, saved Lloyd by pushing him out of the way of the avalanche. Later, Lloyd followed Akita to the Land Bounty, but he was unable to operate the damaged vehicle. Despite this, he got a signal on the Titan Mech and planned to use it to storm the Ice Emperor's Castle.

The Message[]

While waiting for Lloyd to come back, Cole told the children the story about how Aspheera banished Zane to the Never-Realm. They run out in fear, and Kai and Nya questioned what he told them. Then, Uthaug shows the ninja a piece of Lloyd's gi and tells them there were signs of fighting where Lloyd was.

Lloyd and the wolf, who he named Red, continued their journey but came across a giant bird that attacks them. They managed to hide in a cave, where they found Zane's Titan Mech. Lloyd started it up and found a farewell message from Zane. Afterwards, he repaired the mech and used it to fight off the bird.

The Traveler's Tree[]

Cole was upset because he had a nightmare that the ninja hated him for losing the Traveler's Tea. He heard about the Traveler's Tree from a child and went to find it.

Meanwhile, Boma and Uthaug tried to find a place to fish but almost fell off the cliff. Cole came by to save them, and the trio had dinner together. Cole told them about trying to find the tree, but Boma and Uthaug warned him about a monster named Krag guarding the tree. However, Cole wasn't convinced and went on his way. He then walked on a bridge, and Krag appeared to push him.

Meanwhile, Kai and Jay asked Nya where Cole was and told her what happened earlier. Boma and Uthaug rushes to tell them Cole is also on the mountain, prompting Jay and Nya to go after him while Kai stays behind to protect the village.

Krag's Lament[]

While Nya and Jay tries to find Cole on the mountain, Cole was knocked unconscious by Krag and taken to a cave. When he wakes up, he trapped Krag and found out he is the last of his species. He went back to free him and make him his friend. After explaining he was looking for the Traveler's Tree, Krag took him there and back to the cave.

However, they were attacked by Jay and Nya. Cole explained that Krag is his ally and that he helped him get to the tree. Once they got back, however, Krag was attacked by Jay and Nya. Cole broke up the fight and explained he helped him obtain Traveler Tea leaves.

After Nya and Jay apologized and befriended him, Cole offered to let Krag come with them down the mountain. Krag agreed, and bids farewell to his home by planting the tree branch and growling.

Secret of the Wolf[]

Grimfax and the Blizzard Samurai returned to the Castle of Ice proclaiming victory, only to be reprimanded by Vex, who persuades the Ice Emperor to freeze him, but stopped halfway through before learning of a stranger in green, and ordered them to release Boreal to attack the Great Lake.

My Enemy, My Friend[]

Boreal attacked the Great Lake, completely freezing the Fishers, except for Kai, who blamed himself due to weakly recovering his power. Jay, Cole, Nya, and Krag came back to see the aftermath before they decided to find and repair the Land Bounty to storm the Castle of Ice. Boreal later attacked Lloyd and Akita before taking Lloyd on Vex's orders, where he comes face to face with the Ice Emperor, who surprises his former friend with his true identity.

A Fragile Hope[]

While the other ninja and Krag were fixing the Land Bounty, Lloyd tried to get the scepter away from Zane, knowing that the scroll was corrupting him. However, Lloyd was easily defeated by the Ice Emperor and was put in the dungeon, where he mets Kataru and learned that the latter actually survived his fight against Boreal.

Later, Grimfax freed Lloyd and Kataru from their cells and allied with them to free Zane from his corruption and stop Vex.

Once and for All[]

The newly formed Resistance set out to awaken Zane, but first, they had to destroy Vex's crystal. However, Vex saw them coming and intercepted them, which forced Grimfax and Kataru to hold off the Blizzard Samurai while Lloyd awakened Zane.

The ninja and Krag were driving in the Land Bounty to the castle. Unfortunately, Boreal heard them coming and chased them down. Eventually, Nya was able to drive the Land Bounty into him, which crushed him and left him unconscious.

Meanwhile, Akita had found her way into the Ice Emperor's Throne Room, where she took out her anger on him. But, he easily dispatched her dagger and prepared to freeze her when Lloyd crashed into the room, telling him it was time to put this to a stop for once and for all.

Awakenings[]

Lloyd confronted Zane in the Throne Room. Akita was surprised and furious when she found out the Ice Emperor was really Zane. Her anger freed her arm and she charged at the Ice Emperor, but Lloyd blocked her and they argued until the Ice Emperor knocked them both out, which started an inevitable battle.

Outside, far from the Throne Room, Kataru and Grimfax fought their own battle against the Blizzard Samurai and they were soon defeated. Vex ordered them to be taken away to the dungeon and led the rest of the Blizzard Samurai to the Throne Room.

Meanwhile, the ninja and Krag were recovering from all the chaos. There, Nya discovered Boreal was made up entirely of ice and they realized Zane was the Ice Emperor. Before they could run off to warn Lloyd, Boreal woke up and attacked them. He split Kai and Nya from the rest of the group and Nya was forced to learn how to master control over ice to protect Kai and herself. She succeeded and the group rejoined, but Boreal emerged out once again and Kai was the one who saved them when he regained his powers. After they destroyed Boreal, they set out for the castle.

Back at the castle, Lloyd fought the Ice Emperor but after a short while, he froze his entire body except for his head. Akita tried to take on the Ice Emperor to save Lloyd, but the Ice Emperor froze her as well. Vex walked in as Lloyd was begging the Ice Emperor to stop. Vex encouraged the Ice Emperor to finish him off but the Ice Emperor could not bring himself to do it so Vex decided to take care of Lloyd himself. However, when Vex was gloating to Lloyd about not being able to protect anyone, the Ice Emperor pondered on the word and all his memories came back. Himself again, Zane stopped Vex and smashed his scepter, freeing the realm from the curse of the scroll. However some of its power remained which left the Boreal River eternally frozen.[3] Zane froze an enraged Vex as the ninja came in to find the castle back to normal and reunited with Lloyd and Zane, while Kataru reunited with Akita.

In the end, Vex was banished to the outskirts of the realm and Sorla helped the ninja get home with the tea leaves and a berry from the Traveler's Tree. Jay, Kai, Nya, and Zane went into the portal first, while Cole bid goodbye to Krag and Lloyd shared his last moments with Akita. Krag squeezed Cole a big hug before letting him go and Akita kissed Lloyd on the cheek before he left the realm. Seeing Akita saddened, Kataru took her out on another run to cheer her up and Akita remarked how her brother thinks Lloyd will never return, but she believes otherwise and she will see him, just not for a very long time.

Dragons Rising, Season 1[]

During a clashing of realms known as the Merge, the Never-Realm was merged with the other Realms and ended up next to the Land of Madness.[3] No longer classified as a separate realm, it was subsequently renamed the Never Kingdoms. A mysterious barrier surrounded the Never Kingdoms, allowing its natives to freely leave and return, as well as permitting those who had previously visited to re-enter. However, anyone else attempting to enter is halted by an invisible barrier and expelled from the area. As a result of the Merge, the Monastery of the Never Kingdoms was created.

Prior to Dragons Rising, Season 4[]

At some point after the Merge, the Formlings and Fishers found the Titan Mech and took it to the Monastery of the Never Kingdoms where they turned it into a statue honoring the ninja for their role in ending the Ice Emperor's reign.[3]

Dragons Rising, Season 4[]

Prior to A Frozen Scar[]

Akita learned about the upcoming Summit of the Merged Lands and volunteered to join as the delegate of the Never Kingdoms on the upcoming Council of the Merged Lands in the hopes of seeing Lloyd again.[3]

A Frozen Scar[]

Upon reaching the border between the Never Kingdoms and Land of Madness, the ninja, Zilvar, and Grimtak were uncertain if the barrier truly existed but nonetheless remained cautious. Watching as the Cragling man Pebbleton and Mucoid woman Zazkzaz approached the border, they tried to warn the travelers of the barrier but their warnings were misinterpreted as a welcome. Upon passing through the barrier, Pebbleton and Zazkzaz were forcefully ejected from the realm at high speeds and launched into a nearby rock.

Now aware that the barrier wasn't a rumor, Lloyd hypothesized that if Reginald Slitherbottom was right about the barrier he was right about the exception too. Growing impatient, Zilvar tested it himself by commanding Grimtak to run through it. When neither of them were rejected, the ninja realized the exception was true and followed the tiger and Dragon Beast through the barrier in the Land Bounty, combiner bike, and race buggy.

Upon entering the Never Kingdoms, Cole suggested that the ninja should scout ahead which the rest of them agreed to. With some scouting they spotted the Monastery of the Never Kingdoms with the rebuilt Titan Mech in its courtyard across a river. Lloyd recognized the Titan Mech while Zane commented that it would be convenient if the portal gates were online.

The ninja, Zilvar, and Grimtak traveled to the Monastery of the Never Kingdoms where Zilvar was welcomed by a pair of fisher children while the ninja checked out the Titan Mech. Realizing it was a shrine dedicated to them, the ninja learned they were remembered by the residents of the Never Kingdoms. Upon noticing Nya, Sorla welcomed the ninja back to the Never Kingdoms and explained the shrine's history to them while Zane looked at the shrine with shame. As Lloyd comforted the nindroid, Zane commented that while he's aware the Ice Emperor wasn't truly him he still used his power to cause great permanent harm to the land and that if the Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu could do that the Weapon of Desolation could too. Determining that their mission to destroy the Weapon of Desolation was only more urgent now with it slowly escaping its deteriorating containment unit as he created an ice flower which he placed at the shrine, they were interrupted by barking as Akita in her wolf form.

Recognizing Lloyd, Akita licked the Green Ninja's chest a few times before assuming her humanoid form and welcoming him back to the Never Kingdoms. Beniro called out to her, having followed Akita and was introduced to Lloyd by her as her fiancée. After climbing onto the Titan Mech's shoulder with Akita, Lloyd explained to her why they had returned to the Never Kingdoms and needed to reach the Abyss of Eternal Night. Akita explained to him that it was a place of bad omen for her people which would require navigation via scent to reach due to the dense fog surrounding it. Lloyd requested that Akita guide them there but she explained she couldn't as she had only stopped at the monastery to prepare for her journey to Ninjago in preparation for the Summit of the Merged Lands. Revealing that she volunteered in the hopes of seeing Lloyd again, Akita requested that Beniro guide the ninja as she left for Ninjago and waved goodbye to Lloyd. Beniro stated he was excited for their journey to the Abyss of Eternal Night and would leave at dawn.

Later that night while the ninja and Zilvar were asleep, Kai was possessed by a ball of light who used the ninja's body to wake up the rest of the ninja and warn them of the "Beast Warrior" and accidentally waking up Zilvar in the process. The following morning Kai explained to Jay that the ball of light was Wu to Jay's confusion. Kai proceeded to explain that Wu had spoken to him and Cole after they unearthed the Source Dragon of Balance's corpse in a spiritual form which Lloyd stated wasn't a spirit as Arin never saw him in the Spectral Lands. Kai was uncertain but agreed with Lloyd that regardless Wu's warning should be taken seriously as Zilvar bought a fish to feed Grimtak. Suspicious of Zilvar given Wu's warning, Kai expressed his concerns to Jay and Lloyd. Lloyd stated that Zilvar hadn't done anything to lose their trust while affirming that nothing should be left to chance with the important mission while Jay continued to trust Zilvar over Wu. Jay then stated that Zilvar has a right to start a new life now that he was out of the gladiator pit which Lloyd agreed with.

Lloyd explained to Zilvar that the ninja don't want his help now that they have a guide to take them to the Abyss of Eternal Night while he fed Grimtak. Lloyd told Zilvar he deserves to start a new life and he wished them safe travels. Meanwhile Nya talked to Sorla about Wu's warning, suspecting he was referring to Zilvar. Sorla responded by telling Nya of the time Zilvar first arrived broken, acknowledging that while he has darkness in his heart pain can look like evil. Nya retorted by explaining that she's also seen pain make good people do bad things more than she would like.

The ninja boarded the Land Bounty and left with Beniro, following him through a forested canyon as night began to fall. Due to interference, the ninja were forced to follow by sight. As the Weapon of Desolation was disturbed by the Land Bountys vibrations, it released a buildup of Source Energy that caused Jay to lose sight of Beniro. The resulting burst of energy and vibrations triggered an avalanche which Jay was able to narrowly dodge as they exited the Land Bounty to investigate. Cole noticed claw marks on the boulders as Beniro found them again, having tracked Lloyd by scent. Beniro subsequently explained that the region they were traveling through has steep cliffs hidden in the fog and that the path would become difficult to navigate at night so set up camp with the ninja. Around the campfire, Lloyd asked Beniro about the Abyss of Eternal Night. In response Beniro explained the legends of his people involving it and the First Master of Form. In response Kai proclaimed Formlings as honorary Elemental Masters while Lloyd thanked Beniro for going against his peoples' beliefs to aid the ninja. Beniro stated in response that he'd do anything for Akita which Lloyd agreed with.

The night after the ninja left with Beniro and their vehicles, Zilvar took a moment to admire the beauty of the Never Kingdoms. Picking up a leaf, the tiger reflected on how much Mei would've loved the realm when suddenly he was startled by the Monastery of the Never Kingdoms' portal gate activating. Arming himself with his mace, Zilvar watched as the doors opened to reveal Ras.

The Summit (flashback)[]

Zilvar identified Ras as a fellow Tiger Tribe warrior, but was confused by how Ras knew him as he failed to identify his name. As the tigers walked, Ras revealed his original identity as Zeras which shocked Zilvar. Ras explained to Zilvar that after he left the tribe came to the conclusion that he either died or abandoned them. Zilvar asserted that he didn't leave and had he known Ras was still alive would've looked for him. Feeling guilty for failing to save his people and not supporting Ras, Zilvar listened to Ras' urging that the Weapon of Desolation's destruction must be prevented in order to bring back their tribe. Ras explained to Zilvar that the Weapon of Desolation was created by his master so it being destroyed could harm them. Mortified, Zilvar questioned Ras about his master. Ras dismissed Zilvar's questions and insisted the focus should be on securing the Weapon of Desolation. Fearing the Weapon of Desolation could destroy the Merged Lands, Zilvar refused to prevent its casting into the Abyss of Eternal Night but nonetheless agreed to help Ras. Ras dismissed Zilvar's concerns as he revealed his plan to capture the Source Dragons and use their combined power to both reverse the Merge for his master and resurrect the dead Tiger Tribe. Zilvar refused, calling Ras' plan blasphemous. In response Ras implored Zilvar to think of Mei and their tribe, but Zilvar reminded Ras of Mei's pure heart and stated that helping him with such a destructive goal would be an insult to her memory. In a moment of rage, Zilvar provoked Ras by calling him his birth name. Angered, Ras claimed he had worked hard for the tribe Zilvar failed to save as he drew the Icon of the Source Dragon of Strength. Zilvar warned Ras not to challenge him, but the enraged tiger threatened to take matters into his own hands. As Ras Vowed to eliminate the ninja and Zilvar for his betrayal, Zilvar retorted that it was Ras who had betrayed their tribe and not him. Further enraged, Ras prepared to strike Zilvar but Zilvar summoned Grimtak who headbutted Ras. With Ras distracted, Zilvar declared his intention to protect and aid the ninja as he mounted Grimtak and departed to join the ninja on their quest.

A Frozen Scar[]

The next day the ninja and Beniro arrived at the Boreal River which Zane identified as no ordinary frozen river. Beniro explained that the Boreal River was the last remnant of the Ice Emperor's reign, an eternally frozen river of cursed ice. Zane wished to avoid crossing it but Lloyd rejected that idea, pointing out that going around the river would take time they didn't have given the state of the Weapon of Desolation's containment unit. Zane suggested instead flying across but when they tried the ninja discovered the Land Bountys aircraft separation system had been frozen by the Boreal River's cursed ice. Left with no other choice, the ninja and Beniro returned to their vehicles and began driving across the river. Unfortunately midway through crossing the river the Weapon of Desolation corrupted Beniro and managed to escape its containment unit.

Assuming his fox form, the now corrupted Beniro grabbed the Weapon of Desolation in his mouth and exited the Land Bounty. Trying to escape with the Weapon of Desolation, Beniro was followed by Cole and Kai on their combiner bike and race buggy. Determined to escape from the ninja, the Weapon of Desolation reacted with the ice of the Boreal River by projecting large ice spikes from it and cracking the ice the Land Bounty was resting on. Lloyd and Zane joined Kai and Cole in chasing Beniro while Jay and Nya prevented the Land Bounty from sinking. In response Beniro through the Weapon of Desolation into the air where it embedded itself into the ice upon landing and created Ice Monsters which Lloyd and Zane dealt with by assuming their Draconus Forms. The Weapon of Desolation released another wave of Source Energy which reacted with the Boreal River's ice, causing the wheels of the combiner bike and race buggy to freeze to the river. Realizing the ice needed to be controlled, Lloyd ordered Zane to do so. Nervous that the Ice Emperor's lingering corruption in the Boreal River would control him, Zane initially refused. Lloyd however responded that he wouldn't let that happen and Zane complied. The Weapon of Desolation attempted to defend itself in response while Beniro tried to attack Zane but was intercepted by the timely arrival of Zilvar and Grimtak.

Lloyd attempted to ask Zilvar where he came from but was interrupted by Zilvar attempting to tell him about his meeting with Ras. Before he could however Beniro attacked and pinned down Lloyd who told the tiger to get ahold of the Weapon of Desolation since he was the only one who could safely touch it. While Lloyd continued fighting Beniro and Jay and Nya kept the Land Bounty from sinking Zilvar and Grimtak claimed the Weapon of Desolation which allowed Zane to control and stabilize the Boreal River's ice. With the Weapon of Desolation temporarily pacified Lloyd managed to free Beniro of his corruption.

Managing to cross the Boreal River, the ninja, Zilvar, Grimtak, and Beniro met on the other side of it where Beniro apologized for his actions. Cole asked Zilvar why he had returned to them, but as the tiger was about to explain the Weapon of Desolation began to corrupt him. Resisting the Weapon of Desolation's corruption in an internal struggle with his tempted side reminding him of Ras could restore their tribe if the Weapon of Desolation remained intact, Zilvar told himself he couldn't tell the ninja about Ras. In a moment of deception, Zilvar told the ninja he had a feeling. No longer able to guide the ninja to the Abyss of Eternal Night, Beniro handed Lloyd a map to it before returning to the Monastery of the Never Kingdoms. Having no other choice with the Weapon of Desolation's containment unit destroyed, Beniro unable to stay with them, and none of them able to touch the Weapon of Desolation the ninja reluctantly tasked Zilvar with holding the Weapon of Desolation as they continued their journey to the Abyss of Eternal Night.

All Wizards Are Liars[]

Zilvar woke up from a nightmare where he saw the death of his tribe, which the Weapon of Desolation took advantage of by telling him to save his people. Concerned for his friend, Jay asked Zilvar if he was okay. Zilvar responded that he was okay and it was just a dream as Jay continued driving the Land Bounty.

Trivia

Trivia[]

  • This is the fourth realm the ninja traveled to prior to the Merge, the first being in the Underworld, followed by the Cloud Kingdom, and the third being the First Land.
  • It is the only named realm to have a hyphen in its name before it was renamed.
  • According to Wu, Traveler's Tea grown in Ninjago will not work in the Never-Realm, but Traveler's Tea and its berries from the Traveler's Tree do work.[13]
  • The reason it is called the Never-Realm is that no one had ever returned from there. However, in some cases, some were able to escape, such as the First Spinjitzu Master, the ninja, and Zilvar.
  • The Never Kingdoms shares similarities with the Land of Eternal Dawn as being one of the remote realms. The Never Kingdoms were called the Never-Realm for being nearly impossible to escape, whereas the Land of Eternal Dawn, as noted by Dr. LaRow, is characterized by its difficulty to find, uncharted for millennia, and was believed to lack a name. The Land of Eternal Dawn is also regarded as the most distant compared to the Never Kingdoms.[14]
    • The Never Kingdoms also has a location known as the Abyss of Eternal Night, putting into question if there is a possible connection between the two realms. Additionally, they share some similarities in their names being opposites and the fact that one realm seems to fuel Ras' master's power and the other can destroy it.
    • Coincidentally, both realms play a significant role in Dragons Rising Season 4.
  • According to the Visual Dictionary New Edition, the Never-Realm was normally covered in winter for nine months a year. When Zane conquered the Never-Realm, the winter became harsher, colder, and everlasting.
  • Despite the First Spinjitzu Master's claim of the realm being dangerous, many of its residents, including Akita and Kataru, imply that the realm have been peaceful until decades ago when Zane appeared and took over under the influence of Vex's manipulation once he removed his memories. It is unclear what danger he discovered in the realm that none of its residents have seemed to.
  • The time flow in the Never-Realm was unclear before Dragons Rising Season 4:
    • Lloyd assumed that the Never-Realm had a faster time flow than Ninjago.
    • In the live-chat of an art-stream hosted by Joshua Deck, Tommy Andreasen revealed that Aspheera had not only sent Zane to the Never-Realm, but also into the past. He was in the Never-Realm for "60-ish" years.[17]
      TommyAndreasenZaneTimeline
    • Originally, Chris "Doc" Wyatt stated time passed differently in the realm.[18] He would later clarify it was unestablished how time passed between Ninjago and the Never-Realm.[19]
    • The Merge synced time across the realms, but before it, time sometimes passed differently in different realms.[20]
      • When later asked if the passage of time in the Never-Realm changed after the Merge, Doc Wyatt stated "Stay tuned."[21]
      • In "A Frozen Scar," Akita stated that time moves faster in the Never-Realm before the Merge. However, its unclear what the time dilation was pre-merge.
  • According to Tommy Andreasen, it is possible that Oni attacked the realm,[22] although the inhabitants said that the Never-Realm was peaceful before Zane's arrival, so it is not clear.
  • It is unknown if the Realm Crystal could make a portal to the Never-Realm prior to being destroyed by Lloyd.
    • However, considering that the First Spinjitzu Master used the Realm Crystal to travel through the realms, it's possible he used it to travel to the Never-Realm. If he did used it, the Realm Crystal may have only allowed him to get there, as he found difficulty to find his way back.
  • When asked if Zane could perform the Spinjitzu Burst in the Never-Realm, Chris "Doc" Wyatt stated "Remember that the Never Realm thawed (mostly) at the end of that season."[23] It is unknown if he could have used the Burst during the Long Winter.
  • Travelling through the Land of Madness is apparently the fastest way to reach the Never Kingdoms.
  • It is currently unknown if entering the realm through the Monastery of the Never Kingdoms' portal gate would bypass the magical barrier.
