Overview
The Abyss of Eternal Night is a chasm located on a mountain in the Never Kingdoms. Acting as an inescapable void, anything that falls into it will never return.
History
History[]
Background[]
A cursed thorn pierced the First Master of Form's hand, leading her to wreak havoc for generations until the First Spinjitzu Master intervened. He managed to destroy the thorn, but this act created the Abyss of Eternal Night. Fearing its power, the First Spinjitzu Master forbid the Formlings from traveling to the Abyss.[1] Later, a Formling King, ignoring his son's warnings, crossed the Abyss with his army, which tragically resulted in half of his forces plummeting into its depths.[2]
The Summit[]
After traveling for some time, the original ninja and Zilvar managed to reach the Abyss of Eternal Night.
Desperately Seeking Sora[]
The ninja and Zilvar walked towards the Abyss and as they approached it, they noticed the sound the Abyss is making is similar to a heartbeat. Zilvar then walked onto the small platform and held the Weapon of Desolation over the Abyss, ready to drop it with the ninja urging he does it soon, but the weapon corrupted Zilvar and told him if he throws it in, he will lose his tribe forever. As a result, Zilvar ultimately betrayed the ninja and created Elemental Monsters, which they began fighting. After being shot by an Earth Monster, Lloyd activated Draconus Form for himself and the others to continue their attack. Jay, thinking he could get through to Zilvar, attempted to reason with him by saying he was just like him: how he was ripped from his people, captured, lied to, and used mystical items that shattered his goodness. He also understands that while his goodness may be damaged, he can find a path forward and if he could throw off anger, aggression, and corruption, Zilvar can too. After hearing this, Zilvar briefly regained control, but the weapon took over him again and he shot an elemental beam at Jay that tossed him into the air and slammed him into the ground, injuring him and knocking him unconscious. Nya was shaken, trying to wake Jay up and Kai went to attack Zilvar for injuring Jay.
Dangerous Connections[]
The possessed Zilvar was able to overpower the ninja and send a few of them back, but Lloyd was able to outmaneuver him and knock the weapon out of his hands before telling Jay to send it down into the Abyss, but they have not won as the weapon floats back up and continues to possess Zilvar. The ninja continued their fight once more to destroy the weapon and Zilvar was able to overwhelm them again, but Lloyd realized that the weapon draws power from everything. Thinking he was able to neutralize the weapon with his own powers, Lloyd made an attempt to grab the weapon; he was successful and shut it down, freeing Zilvar from the possession and neutralizing the Elemental Monsters. Nya asks how Lloyd knew that would work, but he says he didn't. Lloyd continues what he is saying until he sensed something. Jay asks what it is, and Lloyd says he feels something is happening as his body twitches, and suddenly, he obliterates out of existence, dropping the Weapon of Desolation into the Abyss of Eternal Night. Devastated by what just happened, the ninja exited out of their Draconus Forms and run up to the Abyss' mouth yelling for Lloyd. They realize he is not responding and understand him to be gone as his Life sprinkled down around them. When Zilvar awakened and asked where his people are, Kai prepared to strike with Fire, ready to get back at the tiger as revenge for Lloyd but Jay stopped him, saying Zilvar was possessed and thus had no idea what he was doing. Zilvar then came to realize what had happened and questioned what he had done. Cole lamented that they never should've made him carry the weapon, but it's now destroyed. Zilvar then asked if the Green Ninja is really gone, which Kai angrily confirmed. However, Jay is in denial as he just got his memories of all of them back and then saw his powers were fully working, thinking it is Lloyd but Nya said maybe it was simply Lloyd's final gift to them. Zane then said that ever since the Temple of the Green Ninja, Lloyd had a new and different energy, but he said he couldn't feel that energy anymore. With their mission accomplished, the team boarded the Land Bounty and returned to the Monastery of the Never Kingdoms and Ninjago.

Other appearances and mentions[]
Monster in the Monastery[]
The original ninja were discussing where in the Merged Lands they can destroy the Weapon of Desolation until Frak interrupted them, saying he may know someone who may have explored a lot. As such, they headed to the Explorer's Club to visit Reginald Slitherbottom, who let them in and showed them that if they want to dispose an item of cosmic power, the Abyss of Eternal Night in the Never Kingdoms is the place to go. The ninja headed home and discussed the plan with the young ninja. Since the original ninja were in the Never Kingdoms before the Merge, they are the only ones who can go there to destroy the Weapon of Desolation, while the young ninja protect Ninjago. With everything settled, the first six ninja headed out in the Land Bounty to the Abyss.
A Frozen Scar[]
After entering the Never Kingdoms, the ninja came across the Monastery of the Never Kingdoms, where Lloyd reunited with Akita. The two then got on the Titan Mech and Lloyd mentioned to Akita that they are heading to the Abyss of Eternal Night to destroy the Weapon of Desolation. When Akita tells Lloyd that he will need a guide, he suggested her to take them but she said she only stopped by for supplies on her way to Ninjago, so she sent Beniro with the ninja and they began their journey to the Abyss to dispose of the weapon.

Trivia
Trivia[]
- It is unknown what the relation between the Abyss of Eternal Night and the Land of Eternal Dawn is. If any, they share some similarities, including the opposite names and the fact that one seems to fuel Ras' master's power while the other can destroy it.
- It's similar to the Gorge of Eternal Depth from Legends of Chima, as both are extremely deep chasms located in a realm parallel to Ninjago with similar names, feared by locals since anyone or anything cast into them never returned.
- However, unlike the Abyss, the legend of nothing coming back from the Gorge was false as everything that fell down there returned.
