Ghosts

Overview

“Besides, water is the only weapon against a ghost, for though they can pass through solid objects, they cannot pass through what never stands still. What's flexible to us is rigid to them.”

Ghosts are the spirits of those who have died or lost their mortal bodies by being cursed in a spectral form. Ghosts in the Departed Realm or in the Spectral Lands are referred as Departed Souls.[4]

Following the Merge, all the ghosts from the Cursed and Departed Realm had the opportunity to move on to the next stage of existence, leaving only Morro who stayed behind to help future Departed Souls and protect them from Soul Suckers, until he was absorbed by Thunderfang, who used the corrupted souls of the Forbidden Five and Spectral Dragonians to collect souls, turning drained individuals into Hollow Ones, to become a Source Dragon.

After Lloyd and Arin used the Arc Dragon of Focus to permanently defeat Thunderfang, Morro's fate remains unknown.

History

History[]

Tournament of Elements[]

The Corridor of Elders[]

Pythor implores Garmadon to use a spell that would release the spirits of the Anacondrai generals while banishing himself. Lloyd performs the spell and the spirits emerged from the realm, shocking everyone with the sight of actual ghosts. The Anacondrai generals banish Chen and his followers to the Cursed Realm, ending the war. With their task completed, the spirits returned Pythor to normal size and thanked the ninja for freeing them before moving on to the Departed Realm.

In the end, Morro escaped the Cursed Realm.

Possession[]

Winds of Change[]

Morro made his way to the Ninjago Museum of History, where the Allied Armor of Azure was being kept. He possessed a Night Watchman, then called Steep Wisdom and requested for Lloyd to come.

When the true Green Ninja, his old Master's nephew, arrived at the museum, Morro—still in the body of the Watchman—led him to a back room where he attempted to attack him with a sledgehammer. The watchman was soon buried under several boxes and Morro left his body to possess several other things in the room, such as a portrait of Chen, a Serpentine statue, and a pile of sand. After weakening the Green Ninja, he took possession of Lloyd himself.

With the Allied Armor and control of the Green Ninja's body in Morro’s possession, the ninja lost their powers, and the ghost journeyed to Steep Wisdom to seek the Staff of the First Spinjitzu Master, now carried by his former Master. He faced the Ninja for the first time, using his power of Wind to easily defeat them. Yet, before he was able to obtain the staff, Wu and the Ninja escaped in the Destiny's Bounty. Undeterred, Morro summoned his Elemental Dragon to chase after them.

Ghost Story[]

Morro confronting the Ninja.

Morro confronting the Ninja.

Morro quickly caught up to the flying vessel and boarded it, defeating Cole and Jay with ease. He used lightning to cripple the ship's autopilot and descended into its lower level, where he defeated Zane. Morro almost succeeded in throwing Kai out of the vessel, but was distracted when Wu threw his staff out the window. As it was Morro's true objective, he summoned his Elemental Dragon once again and used it to retrieve the staff.

Morro flew to a nearby tavern, where he satisfied himself with a drink before interrupting a biker's pool game to decipher the message on the staff. Angered at Morro's action, the biker and his friends surrounded him, though the ghost used the Allied Armor to summon Wrayth, and the two defeated the bikers with ease. He then instructed the Chain Master to deal with the Ninja while he located Master Yang's Airjitzu scrolls.

Upon arriving at the Ancient Library of Domu, where the Airjitzu scrolls were kept, Morro was enraged to find that the thief, Ronin, had already stolen them and fled to Stiix. He stormed out of the building, but not before he gave one of the guards his autograph and took a selfie with them.

Stiix and Stones[]

Morro soon arrived at a hill overlooking Stiix and summoned Soul Archer to aid him in his quest, as Lloyd was beginning to fight his possession. The two descended into the city and confronted Ronin at his shop. Unfortunately for Morro, the Ninja arrived and Morro ordered Soul Archer to hide so they could locate the scroll. Once the Ninja succeeded, Morro summoned several more ghosts and chased after Ronin, eventually claiming the Airjitzu scroll. He was then pursued by Kai though he used the martial art to ascend into the air, where he summoned his Elemental Dragon and escaped.

The Temple on Haunted Hill[]

Morro used the Armor to release Bansha and Ghoultar from the Cursed Realm, hoping that they would be able to decipher the next symbol on the staff. Bansha revealed the next clue to be the Sword of Sanctuary, kept hidden in the Cloud Kingdom, which was only accessible from the Blind Man's Eye. As the only way to reach the phenomenon was to ascend the Wailing Alps, Morro ordered his forces to the Samurai X Cave, intending to possess one of the Ninjas' mechs.

At Yang's temple, the ninja were in search of the Scroll of Airjitzu and were warned of the curse of becoming a ghost. After finding the Scroll, Yang greeted them and told them of the danger of staying before sunrise. The ninja then race out, though Cole had to retrieve the scroll when they dropped it, becoming a ghost at the last moment due to the curse. However, since he was not trapped in the temple, he retains his free will. Yet, before they could take one of the mechs, the ghosts were ambushed by Nya in her Samurai Mech. While she was unable to damage the ghosts, the samurai succeeded in destroying the Allied Armor, thus destroying the way for Morro to summon reinforcements. Ghoultar quickly possessed the mech, however, and the ghosts chased Nya and Ronin from the cave. Unfortunately, it soon began to rain and the Master of Wind summoned his Elemental Dragon to head to the Wailing Alps.

Peak-a-Boo[]

Morro used the Samuari Mech to ascend the Wailing Alps, though at the same time Lloyd was growing stronger and fighting his possession. Upon realizing they were being followed by the Ninja, Morro was encouraged to abandon Lloyd's body by his companions, though the Master of Wind reminded them that only a Spinjitzu Master could find the tomb. He did, however, allow Bansha to create an avalanche, and the ghosts continued their ascent.

As they neared the Hanging Temple, the ghosts discovered the Ninja had survived the avalanche and were climbing even faster. Morro abandoned the mech and ordered his allies to stop them while he continued climbing. Yet, even after calming the winds that plagued the mountain, Morro failed in reaching the Blind Man's Eye.

Kingdom Come[]

With his failure and Lloyd's continued resistance, Morro became increasingly agitated. However, Bansha quickly made contact with Fenwick, the head writer in Cloud Kingdom, and made a deal with him to let them in the back way. Morro was shown to where the Sword of Sanctuary was kept and upon retrieving it, encountered the Ninja. Due to being able to see their next move within the blade's reflection however, Morro was able to dodge their attacks and escape back to Ninjago. However, the Ninja followed, quickly catching up to them, and because Lloyd regained control of his body momentarily, Morro lost the sword to Kai.

The Crooked Path[]

Morro and his ghost companions moved to Stiix, where they took up residence in the remains of Ronin's pawn shop. Bansha then contacted the mercenary, ordering him to bring them the Sword of Sanctuary in exchange for his curse being removed.

Ronin soon arrived with the sword in hand and, after Ghoultar inspected it to make sure it wasn't fake, presented it to Morro. The Master of Wind used it to determine the location of the tomb, though he went behind Ronin's back and possessed him. With Ronin's body, he contacted the Ninja and lead them on a false trail to the Caves of Despair. After the message was sent, he left Ronin and taunted Lloyd by telling him to save his strength, as he will need them once they depart for the real location of the tomb.

Grave Danger[]

Taking possession of Lloyd once more, Morro journeyed to the tomb with the Sword of Sanctuary and passed the first two traps with ease. On the third trap, he eventually met up with the Ninja and dueled with them. Soon, he was fooled by Kai and was trapped, but escaped his imprisonment.

Morro's group escape with the Realm Crystal

However, he caught up to the Ninja at the First Spinjitzu Master's resting spot, holding an extremely weakened Lloyd in one arm and threatening to hurt him with his sword if they didn't give up the Realm Crystal. After a minute of stalling, Kai intended to fool the ghost again, coming out as a success because of the ninja regaining their power and the plan only backfiring when Lloyd was sent plummeting into a river, drifting away and leaving the Fire Ninja and Cole to save him while Zane and Jay took care of Morro. The Master of Wind was too clever for them, however, and escaped with both the crystal and the sword in his hands.

The ghosts regroup with Morro, who appeared with realm crystal and the trio escape through a portal made by the Realm Crystal.

Curseworld, Part I[]

Morro's army of ghosts overtook Stixx, which left the citizens either imprisoned or in hiding. Various trucks from Chen's Noodle industry arrive at the docks, with one truck driven by Wu and Misako before being halted by Morro. The ghosts look in the back of the truck, only to find that it's suspiciously empty. Wu tells Morro that the Ninja will defeat his army of ghosts, but they can still end the occupation without further conflict. Morro disagrees with his former master and has him and Misako imprisoned with the other civilians.

On New Year's day, Morro used the Realm Crystal to return to the city of Stiix, where he opened a portal to the Cursed Realm. After briefly conferring with the weapon masters about the Preeminent's status, he expanded the portal and ordered the Ghost Warriors to prepare the city for their master's arrival.

The Ninja shortly arrived at the city of Stiix with Lloyd by their side to stop the Preeminent from crossing over to Ninjago.

The Preeminent leads the ghosts into battle.

The ghosts and Morro were alerted to the presence of the supposed Green Ninja, whom they caught with ease. The ghosts brought the Green Ninja to the center of town, where Morro mocked the masked warrior and pulled off the hood, only to discover that Nya—the Water Ninja—was underneath. Using his power of wind, Morro was able to repel her water attacks until he noticed Lloyd trying to sneak by. He confronted the real Green Ninja and—using the Sword of Sanctuary—was able to prevent him from reaching the Realm Crystal. However, Ronin arrived and distracted Morro by raining down his wealth, which allowed Lloyd to get inside the building and reach the Realm Crystal. However, Morro managed to get inside before Lloyd could destroy the crystal and delayed him by reminding him that destroying the artifact would ruin any chances of saving Garmadon. His delay worked as the Preeminent arrived and dragged Lloyd into the Cursed Realm.

Curseworld, Part II[]

Morro and Lloyd are now in Chima.

Morro and Lloyd are now in Chima.

As the Preeminent arrived in Stiix, Morro confronted his old master and captured Misako. Then he fought Ronin to get the Sword of Sanctuary back, but Lloyd showed up to get the Sword and battled Morro in other realms. Morro returned to Ninjago and trapped Lloyd in another realm.

Morro before his death

Unfortunately for the Master of Wind, Nya unlocked her True Potential and sank the Preeminent. As the creature fell into the water, Morro used his wind to keep himself above the ocean, Wu arriving on his Elemental Dragon to help him. As he struggled to stay away from the water, he was soon grabbed by his monstrous master. Morro soon realized that his fate had been sealed, and handed his old master the Realm Crystal before sinking into the ocean and dissolving.

With the Cursed Realm destroyed, almost all of the ghosts (except for Clouse who escaped) were sent to the Departed Realm.

The New Ninja[]

A few dozens of Ghost Warriors survived Nya's tidal wave and went hiding. Not long after, they tried to attack the city of Stiix again. They tricked Nya into going to the highest building in Stiix so it would be harder for her to summon water, but with the ninja's help, she managed to activate her True Potential again and destroyed the final remnants of the Ghost Warriors.

Clouse tricked by Nadakhan and absorbed into the teapot.

Upon arriving at Stiix, he dug up the teapot from a pile of junk in the harbor and entered an abandoned shack, where he used the teapot to release Nadakhan, which freed him and allowed him to grant three wishes. Clouse wished for his book of spells, but it backfired when he picked up the book, as it turned into ash due to being burned by the Ninja. He then wished to become human again, but suffered intense pain, as Nadakhan described the transformation from ghost to physical as a "painful process," leading to Clouse being manipulated by the djinn into using his final wish to be free from all of the pain. Nadakhan then used the broad context of the wish to trick the sorcerer into being absorbed into the teapot, where he was free of the pain at the expense of being trapped within the teapot.

The Way Back[]

Due to Jay making his final wish, Clouse was freed from the Djinn Blade and restored to his ghost form, with no memory of the events. He attempted to salvage the Teapot of Tyrahn, only to be noticed by the people of Stiix, who still resented ghosts for the destruction of their village and chased him off, preventing him from freeing Nadakhan and ironically sparing him.

Day of the Departed[]

During the Day of the Departed, Yang manipulates Cole into coming to his temple by having the Earth Ninja steal the Yin Blade and settle the score. He tricks the ninja into attacking him and after the attack backfires, the Master of Earth is captured by Yang's students.

The Ninjas' vilest foes are freed.

The Ninjas' vilest foes are freed.

Yang reveals that his plan was to trick Cole into unleashing the souls of the Ninjas' former enemies, where they will distract the separated remaining Ninja while the ghostly master opens a Rift to the Departed Realm and become mortal again.

The ghosts were aided by Pythor, who was eager to destroy one of the Ninja. They then picked a target and went after the scattered Ninja, who were shocked to see their old foes again and battle them.

Meanwhile, Cole escapes and fights through Yang's pupils until he reaches the old master.

As this happens, the Ninja defeat the foes except for a redeemed Morro, who warns them of Yang's plan while also making them recall Cole. With his task completed, Morro returned to the Departed Realm at peace.

Cole finally faces Yang but is no match for him after the corrupt master overpowers him and proceeds to demoralize him, calling him a ghost who will be forgotten and take his place as Master of the house. However, the voices of the Ninja are heard since they have come to help Cole. This reenergizes the ghostly ninja, who rises to face off against Yang again.

This time, Cole unleashes enough power to shatter the Yin Blade, freeing Yang's students from his control. As the Rift begins to close, Cole prompts the student ghosts to go through the Rift, allowing them to become mortal while Yang admits defeat. A bitter Yang reveals he wanted to be immortal so he would not be forgotten, but Cole reminds him that as the creator of Airjitzu, he would not be forgotten by anyone. Cole then flies the two of them towards the Rift but Yang tells him one of them must remain behind as the Temple's master because of the curse, and throws Cole into the disappearing rift, claiming he wanted to settle his "debts."

Afterward, Cole becomes human again and he and the ninja move into the temple, while Yang wanders the halls, no longer a sadistic monster but a kind master who has accepted his fate, with only Cole being aware of his presence.

Sons of Garmadon[]

True Potential[]

Before the Sons of Garmadon project Lloyd and Garmadon's fight in Kryptarium Prison across every screen in Ninjago, the interview between the Announcer, Jay, Cole, and Nya from the beginning of Infamous can be briefly seen on the screens, where Cole is a ghost.

Amber Spiral[]

Sometime after the Liberation of Ninjago, Skylor journeyed to the Village in the valley in search of answers to a series of recurring dreams she had been experiencing, There, she descended into a long hidden tomb and found the Urn of Enmity. After being beckoned to touch the urn, Skylor's spirit was cast from her body and into the urn, where she awoke inside a facsimile blacksmith shop covered in amber resin. There, she found herself face to face with the spirit of her ancestor, the Original Master of Amber, who was bound in amber chains. The Original Master revealed himself as being responsible for his descendant's dreams, all in a ploy to lure her here so he could possess her body to reclaim the element of Amber and be freed from his prison within the urn. In the resulting tug-of-war of will, Skylor managed to overwhelm her ancestor by vowing never to be like him and to use her powers for good rather than greed and self-interest like he had centuries ago. Exhausted, the Original Master collapsed to the ground as his amber chains shattered and his spirit was transferred to the Departed Realm.

Dragons Rising, Season 3[]

The Spectral Lands[]

Ras sent Arin into the Spectral Lands to get the healing elixir from the Well of the Lost so he can heal from his injuries. In the Spectral Lands, Arin meets Morro, who told him that both the Cursed Realm and Departed Realm fused together when the Merge happened, which allowed Departed souls to move on but rendered them vulnerable to Soul Suckers. Morro brought Arin to the Well, where he tells him that the elixir's properties allow souls to move forward from the Departed Realm; enabling them to transcend to a higher level of existence, be reincarnated, or find eternal rest; and provide healing for the living. After returning to the border, Arin and Morro fought off the Soul Suckers, saving Ras from having his soul absorbed. Arin was taken aback when Morro mentioned that his master was Wu, especially since he believed Wu was dead after seeing what he thought was his ghost. Morro, however, insisted that Wu was still alive, arguing that if he had truly passed on, the ghostly ninja would have known.

The Shatter Dragon[]

Thunderfang absorbing Morro's soul.

After his demise from the elixir of the Well of the Lost, Thunderfang became a Departed Soul within the Spectral Lands. There, Morro sought to protect him from a group of Soul Suckers, mistakenly believing the dragon to be yet another vulnerable spirit. However, the Shatter Dragon instead consumed their souls, including Morro's, thereby amplifying his own powers.

Prior to The Hollow Ones[]

Thunderfang gathered an army of spirits from the Spectral Lands, consisting of the Forbidden Five and numerous Dragonians who were killed while corrupted, transforming them into Hollow Ones in a ghostly state.[5][6] The Spectral Dragonians, imbued with powers akin to those of the Soul Suckers, were dispatched alongside the Forbidden Five to invade the other Merged Lands, intending to steal more souls for Thunderfang to help him ascend into a Source Dragon.[7][8]

The Hollow Ones[]

Kur and a group of Spectral Dragonians hunted the village of Abracalabria one night, marking the start of the Spectral invasions. After stealing the souls of several of the village's inhabitants, they were forced to flee when the sun rose over the horizon. The following evening however, Kur and her platoon returned to finish collecting the souls of the remaining villagers, where Ras, Sora, and Arin witness her.

Human Resources[]

The Spectral Dragonians were sent to Mysterium, along with Kur, who plays a magical flute, as the unseen Spectral Dragonians drain the souls of their victims. After stealing Gandalaria's soul, morning arrives, forcing her and the Spectral Dragonians to leave.

Casket of Bones[]

Drix attacked the Administration to seize the souls of the Administration Agents. After successfully obtaining the agents’ souls, he returned to the Spectral Lands, where Nokt, Zarkt, Rox, and Kur were waiting for him, and transferred them into the Well of the Lost. As Drix ejected the souls from his flute, Thunderfang comments that the Source Dragons will rue the day they rejected him and laughs as his growing power begins to charge.

The Screaming Earth[]

The Spectral Dragonians arrive at the Land of Lee, where they hollow Lee.

Under the Light of a Mechanical Moon[]

Zarkt arrives at the Land of Lee after exiting a portal from the Administration to finish what Drix started. With the Spectral Dragonians pulling the souls out, Zarkt harvest souls with his flute. Noticing the wolf's state, Lloyd wonders what's going on. Meanwhile, Rox arrived back at the Well to transfer more stolen souls to power up Thunderfang's ritual, which pleased her master, who comments his time has never been closer.

Nokt arrived in the Land of Lost Things, where the Spectral Dragonians absorbed the Finders' souls. Kai, Cole, and Frak arrived after freeing the bones of the Source Dragon of Balance and Geo told them of some weird music showed up. Hearing the music, Cole looked up and noticed Nokt, who just finished stealing the Finders' souls with his flute and grinned at them as he left. Geo took one of the Finder's Prismatic Blades and saw the Spectral Dragonians, which he showed to Cole. The three ninja took Geo's Ninja Combat Vehicle and three Prismatic Blades to go after Nokt.

The Ninja retreated and realized Thunderfang was probably in the Spectral Lands, where the departed Ninja Arin met told him that it is where the dead goes to now. Arriving at the Spectral Lands, they notice Thunderfang near the Well of the Lost with Rox, Drix, and Kur when Zarkt later returned to the Well, where he adds in the stolen souls he gathered from the Land, which the Ninja saw him do. When Jay notices the Spectral Dragonians were missing, several of them appeared and fought them. A golden orb directs the Ninja to the Spectral Monastery, where they head to the City of Temples to find Roby, who might know how to stop them since that was where Thunderfang was defeated last time.

The Vault of Focus[]

Nokt arrived in Imperium and managed to capture several souls with his Spectral Dragonians. When Cole spots him, he attempts to take him down but Kai stops him due to knowing the dangers when Percival Tartigrade suggests upgrading their Prismatic Blades. Frak and Kai go ahead but Cole instead fights Nokt head on in the Ninja Combat Vehicle Jet. As Nokt continues to play his flute to absorb more souls, he soon hears lasers being fired at him. He then spots Cole inside the jet and manages to avoid the lasers before dodging the ninja's attempt to bring him down. Nokt and Cole continue to battle, with Cole dodging his Brute Force attack, but Nokt uses Shatterspin to repel Cole's lasers and launches a powerful wave that destroys the jet. Cole then jumps out and uses Spinjitzu to keep himself afloat as he charges at Nokt but the Spectral Dragonians grab and restrain him as the wolf ghost plays his flute, which steals the ninja’s soul. Frak and Kai arrive and save the hollowed ninja. The two ninja use their new Reveal Blades to destroy the Spectral Dragonians, forcing the others to flee. Nokt notices his minions retreating and sees Kai before firing a Brute Force ball at him but Kai throws his Reveal Blade at the flute and comments that his music is terrible, which releases most of the stolen Imperian souls. Nokt then retreats with the rest of his Spectral Dragonians.

At the City of Temples, Bleckt keeps watch since he is aware that if Thunderfang had amassed enough souls to become a Source Dragon, the resulting power would be evident across the Merged Lands, though it had yet to be detected.

When Nokt arrived from Imperium, he ejected the souls he still had into the Well. A confused Thunderfang chastised Nokt, pointing out that Imperium is a densely populated land. Immediately after, Rox returned with more souls, in which the dragon remarked that her contributions were more fitting. With a sufficient number of souls collected, the Well surged with energy, leading Thunderfang to declare that he had finally amassed enough souls to commence his evolution.

As the Ninja head to the Monastery of Gates, they witness Thunderfang's growing power.

For Whom the Bell Tolls[]

In the Spectral Lands, Thunderfang became more powerful, growing a large claw. He then sensed someone nearing the Arc Dragon of Focus' resting place and realized it was the Ninja trying to wake his eternal enemy. Unknown to Thunderfang, the Five, and the Spectral Dragonians, Lloyd and Arin were in the Spectral Lands with their Prismatic Ore mechs, waiting for the two halves to be awakened so they can fuse them into the Focus Arc Dragon through the Unbidden Storm to defeat him once and for all.

When Doves Cry[]

As Lloyd and Arin get close to the Well of the Lost, the two fight Nokt, Rox, and Drix, along with many Spectral Dragonians but they manage to hold against them using their Prismatic armor, which deflected Nokt's Brute Force and Rox's Shatterspin. The two escape their ghost enemies when Lloyd punched a hole through the cavern beneath the Well of the Lost.

Kur and her Spectral Dragonians traveled to Djinjago, where she flew past Rapton and the Freebooters, who have stolen some of Arrakore's treasures. In Rapton's case, he stole a rare Djinjagan unicorn figurine that completed his collection.

Chaos Reigns[]

Zarkt and his Spectral Dragonians arrived in Mysterium, battling Kai, Nya, and a coconut copy of Gandalaria. Zarkt attempts to use Shatterspin on the focus crystals but was stopped by Nya's Rising Dragon. Kur made the same attempt in Mysterium but was stopped by Riyu, Frak, Sora, and Wyldfyre.

In the Spectral Lands, Arin and Lloyd try to help the Arc Dragon of Focus defeat Thunderfang upon realizing they are connected to it. The two help the Arc Dragon fight Thunderfang while the other ninja at each of the Cave of Bells constantly prevent Zarkt and Kur from destroying the focus crystals.

After the Arc Dragon of Focus defeated Thunderfang by destroying the Well of the Lost, the Shatter Dragon released a surge of soul energy that dissipated his form, along with the Forbidden Five and Spectral Dragonians, but returned the souls to the living Hollow Ones.

Dragons Rising, Season 4[]

Seed and Soil[]

After Rontu died her soul went to the Spectral Lands, where she meet Egalt and Morro, who were both restored after Thunderfang's defeat.

Known ghosts
Abilities

Abilities[]

  • Elemental Powers - Ghosts of Elemental Masters retain their Elemental Powers.
  • Immortality - Ghosts are souls without mortal bodies to inhabit, making them effectively unable to age or die naturally.
    • Conditional Indestructibility - Some ghosts cannot be destroyed under certain conditions, such as Spectral Dragonians, who are immune to Prismatic Blades.
      • Elemental Immunity - Some ghosts like the Spectral Dragonians are immune to Elemental Powers.
    • Thermal Resistance - Ghosts from the Cursed Realm are unaffected by the cold temperatures of the Wailing Alps and the hot temperatures of the Caves of Despair.
  • Invisibility/Undetectability - Ghosts can become invisible and undetectable to the naked eye at will.
  • Intangibility - Ghosts can phase through solid matter.
  • Flight/Levitation - Ghosts can lift themselves off the ground and remain suspended in the air indefinitely. They can even move through the air freely and control their altitude.
  • Absolute Possession - Ghosts can possess anything, whether they be living beings or inanimate objects.
    • Object/Machine Possession - Ghosts from the Cursed Realm could also possess objects and machines as Morro possessed a Chen portrait and a Serpentine statue. Cole was able to possess a pile of snow and turn it into a body. He later possessed Zane's Ice Mech to make up for lost ground and later possessed a door to unlock the door in the Cloud Kingdom.
      • Vehicle Possession - Ghosts from the Cursed Realm could also possess vehicles, transforming the said vehicles into their liking.
    • Remote Possession - Ghosts can also possess anything or anyone from a remote distance, as seen when Morro possessed Bansha.
    • Voxikinesis - When possessing something capable of speech, ghosts can manipulate their voice to sound like either their own or their victim.
    • Transmutation - Through their possession, ghosts are able to transmute anything they possess to their own liking.
  • Corporikinesis - Ghosts from the Cursed Realm can change between having legs and a ghost tail, but they prefer traveling through levitation using their ghost tails, as opposed to walking.
  • Telepathy - Some ghosts such as Morro and Bansha can communicate with others telepathically. This ability is severely limited when possessing someone however.
  • Spectral Magic - Ghosts are capable of using a form of magic known as spectral magic.
    • Curse Inducement - Ghosts can curse mortals and objects.
      • Dimensional Imprisonment - By cursing mortals, ghosts can imprison them in the Cursed Realm.
      • Poltergeization - Mortals and objects cursed by ghosts can become ghosts themselves.
    • Size Augmentation - Ghosts can increase the size of objects/entities, as the Anacondrai Generals did with Pythor.
    • Telumgenesis - Ghosts can create spectral weapons such as Ghost Blades with their magic.
  • Spectral Perception - Ghosts are able to perceive hidden spiritual energy, such as when Morro was able to see Soul Suckers without the usage of Prismatic Steel. Thunderfang and the Forbidden Five were also able to spot the Spectral Dragonians when they cross out of the Spectral Land borders.
  • Soul absorption - The Spectral Dragonians can absorb souls, rendering their victims hollowed. Thunderfang's method of soul absorption is lethal, but this only occurs when he consumes the souls of his victims,[5] rather than those he absorbed from the Well of the Lost.
  • Spectrokinesis - Some ghosts like Thunderfang and the Forbidden Five can manipulate other ghosts.
  • Cold Presence - Some ghosts like Spectral Dragonians and the Forbidden Five can make the temperature drop through their presences.
    • Caligogenesis - Some ghosts like Spectral Dragonians and the Forbidden Five can also cause a cold fog to appear through their presences.
  • Electronic Disruption - Some ghosts like Spectral Dragonians and the Forbidden Five can cause electronics to shut down.
Weaknesses

Weaknesses[]

  • Water (formerly) - Before the Merge,[9] a ghost's main weakness was water, and presumably any other liquid,[10] which would send them back to the Cursed Realm if distributed in a large enough quantity.[11] However, after the Cursed Realm's destruction, all ghosts would be sent to the Departed Realm.
  • Paranormal essence detector - A ghost's invisibility can be countered by a paranormal essence detector,[12] which allows a normal human to see a ghost even if they are invisible.[13]
    • Thermal vision - A ghost's invisibility can be countered with thermal vision, which will allow a normal human to detect the ghost's heat signature.
  • Realm dependence - If a ghost remains outside of a vessel, such as a body, or are tied to the Temple of Airjitzu or an afterlife realm like the Cursed Realm for a certain amount of time, they will pass over to the Departed Realm.[14] This may only apply to the realm of Ninjago, with other realms having different rules, as evidenced by Clouse being able to spend a long time in the Underworld without a vessel.[15]
  • Deepstone - Since the molecules in Deepstone are constantly moving, it can both neutralize and defeat ghosts, also preventing them from possessing the user.
  • Elemental Powers - While only water can send them back, elemental powers have some degree of effect on Ghosts, as Fire and Ice can dissipate them, due to making water.
    • Fire - While Fire can't directly defeat ghosts, objects heated by it can become too hot for a ghost to touch.
    • Energy - Energy can knock back ghosts.
    • Lightning - Lightning is capable of temporarily harming ghosts and disabling their power of levitation, as well as destroying their weapons. This power can also hurt Departed souls from the Departed Ream or the Spectral Lands.
  • Sword of Sanctuary - The Sword of Sanctuary is capable of defeating ghosts.
  • Vengestone - Vengestone can fully negate a ghost's powers and abilities, just like Elemental Powers.
  • Extreme Force - It is possible to knock back Ghosts with enough force as seen when Dogshank managed to knock Cole away.
  • Prismatic Ore - Prismatic Ore can block attacks from ghosts, including those with elemental powers and Shatterspin.[16]
    • Prismatic Steel - Prismatic Steel is capable of defeating ghosts, but some of them, like the Spectral Dragonians, can actually damage standard Prismatic Steel.[7] However, upgraded versions of the material, such as the Reveal Blades, retain their ghost-destroying abilities even against stronger foes.[8]
  • Sunlight - Ghosts from the Spectral Lands cannot withstand the sun.[7]
