Sometime after Ras' attack on the Monastery of Spinjitzu, Cole and the Finders awaken to assess the damages. As Cole and Geo discuss their next steps, knocking resounds from outside the monastery gates; someone has arrived. While Cole and Geo exchange concerned glances, Fritz walks up and opens the gates and greets Master Zant-Tanz.
Greeting the Master of Plants, Cole inquires about the Mucoid General's reason for visiting. In response, Zant-Tanz explains that he, like many other Elemental Masters, have come in search of answers for the strange circumstances surrounding Elemental Powers as of late. When Cole expressed confusion about Zant-Tanz's inquiry, the latter explained how Gorge, the Master of Size, had visited the Mother Garden but lost control over his size-changing powers and shrunk until he had disappeared from the view of the naked eye!
When Cole expressed continued skepticism over the claims of out of control elemental powers, Zant-Tanz demonstrated with his own power of Plants, accidentally calling forth a massive vine that burst through the monastery grounds and now threatened to entangle the entire structure. In annoyance, Cole called upon his power of Earth, ignoring Zant-Tanz's warnings, only to discover that he too had no control over his powers! To add to matters, the vine summoned by Zant-Tanz absorbed Cole's out of control powers, covering its tendrils with a stony shell. Alarmed, Cole ordered the finders to grab weapons to prune the vines with.
While Cole and the Finders fought the out of control vines, Alfonzo Frohicky climbed up to the monastery rooftop to seek shelter away from the battle. There, he spotted that the vines were spreading beyond the monastery walls and were now also fusing with the thorn bushes outside. As if on cue, the vines being cut by Cole and the Finders began developing thorns - in fact the vines could also shoot off the thorns, with some striking Rontu as she lay nearby, resting from her injuries. Fearing for Rontu's safety, Geo attempted to use his power of Fusion to create a protective barrier with roof tiles, but to no avail.
As the vines began spreading deeper into the monastery, Cole led the finders into the Hangar bay, noting that they had to find and destroy the main stem to stop the vines from spreading. Upon entering the hanger bay, Cole immediately ran towards his Elemental Earth Mech, only for the vines to take control over it first. Forced to disable the mech with the guns of the Rock Cycle, Cole now moaned that he was out of ideas on stopping the vines; without elemental powers to fight with, was the only remaining option really going to be torching down the monastery?
In spite of Cole bemoaning the situation, Fritz thought up of an idea and transformed into his animal form. Moments later, Fritz returned with an enormous flock of birds which swooped in and tore apart the vines, shredding them and ending the threat. When Cole asked Fritz how he did it mere minutes later, Fritz explained that it was nesting season and he just told the birds to take as much as needed from the monastery! With the immediate threat defeated, Cole decided to start looking into what Ras could have been looking for in the monastery while Zant-Tanz departed to warn other elemental masters about the in-balance in elemental powers.

- The comic is set during or after "The Whispering Wood".
- The comic features the Rock Cycle, although it was completely destroyed in "The Shape of Nya". It's possible that it is supposed to represent a different vehicle, similar to how Cole's mech represented the Fire Mech in "First Try!" and Dieselnaut-like vehicle was used by Ms. Demeanor in "Bad Water!."
- This is the first time Gorge's name has been mentioned in any Ninjago media.
