In this full episode, Lloyd enters the Temple of the Green Ninja and faces a shocking trial. Will he survive it? Plot

Lloyd, Arin, Euphrasia, and Zane arrive at the Temple of the Green Ninja, where Lloyd is anxious about the unknown challenges that lie ahead, having been fixated on the quest itself. Arin suggests that the temple might be overseen by a spirit guardian, just like the Temple of the Dragon Cores. However, Lloyd is acutely aware that the ritual he must undergo to unlock his True Potential as the Green Ninja is fraught with danger, as the Arc Dragon of Life warned that it could be fatal. As they approach the entrance, Lloyd uses his powers to part the curtain of vines, but when Arin attempts to follow, he is halted by an invisible barrier. After a moment of confusion, Lloyd realizes that only he can pass since he's the Green Ninja. Arin urges Lloyd to reconsider the risks involved. Despite his friends' concerns, Lloyd felt responsible for embracing his destiny and rectifying everything. He steps into the temple, leaving his friends behind as he is transported to a grassy field, where he is suddenly ensnared by roots.

In the Monastery of Spinjitzu, Mr. Frohicky tends to the gravely weakened Rontu, reassuring her that she will recover and mentioning that Jenny and Barry have gone to gather supplies while he prepares a restorative meal. Rontu, however, believes her death is approaching, recalling Egalt's passing and sensing that Riyu, her final student, is also close to death in a distant land. Despite Mr. Frohicky's attempts to comfort her, Rontu insists that her visions are real and blames herself for Riyu's fate, believing she failed to protect him. As she mournfully declares that both of them will soon die, Mr. Frohicky can only watch in sorrow.

Aboard Freya's Windmill in Umbrasilvis, Wyldfyre continues caring for the unconscious Riyu, anxiously waiting for Sora and Frak to return with the energy needed to save him. Meanwhile, the pair board the Mutation Monster's airship, where Frak focuses on stopping the creature before it destroys everything on board while Sora remains determined to retrieve the energy for Riyu. Investigating a scream, they discover Rowan Rockspike, who reveals he has been hiding from the monster. As Frak questions a mysterious hooded Loyalist he finds on the ship, Sora is ambushed by the Mutation Monster. After fending off its attack with Spinjitzu, Sora and Frak remove their disguises and pursue the escaping creature. Their chase is interrupted by Reginald, who angrily demands they recover his escaped creation before the two ninjas continue after the Mutation Monster, knowing it is their only chance to save Riyu.

Lloyd is greeted by a mysterious figure in black clothing who shows him the symbols of the seven Source Dragons and discs that look to represent each of the Realms around them, before one turns red and flies off. Lloyd then tries to ask the figure what that was, only to be greeted by the question, "Why ask me, old man?" by the figure, revealing itself to be a physical manifestation of his young self before he joined the Ninja.

Back in the Monastery of Spinjitzu, Cole and Geo clean up the damage left by Ras's attack on Master Wu's study. As they search through the scattered scrolls, Geo speculates that Ras targeted the room because it contained knowledge he wanted. Cole regrets allowing his anger toward Nokt to distract him, believing he could have protected the monastery if he had stayed behind. While examining the scrolls, Cole discovers that they all concern methods of locating and containing energy and notices that one numbered scroll is missing. Suspecting Ras stole it, Cole theorizes that the missing scroll contains knowledge about containing a specific type of energy that Ras is seeking, possibly connected to Master Wu's research.

Back in Umbrasilvis, Sora and Frak pursue the escaped Mutation Monster through the city, following the sounds of panicked civilians. As the creature attacks fleeing Umbrasilvans with energy blasts, Sora uses Spinjitzu to keep it at bay while she and Frak protect the townspeople. Although the Mutation Monster continues to evade them, the two ninjas remain determined to stop it and recover the energy needed to save Riyu. Wyldfyre grows frustrated that they have yet to obtain the elemental energy needed to save Riyu. Unable to rely on her elemental powers, Wyldfyre joins the fight using only physical attacks, even grabbing a ceremonial flagpole to strike the creature. Working together, the three ninjas briefly restrain the Mutation Monster, allowing Sora to use the energy-collecting device. Although the monster breaks free before the process is fully completed, Freya catches the dropped device and returns it to Sora. Believing the collected energy is enough, Sora injects it into Riyu, who briefly awakens with glowing eyes and lets out a powerful roar before collapsing once more, leaving the success of the treatment uncertain. Frak devises a strategy to corner the Mutation Monster by trapping it in a dead end, with Wyldfyre helping force the creature into position. However, just as they appear to have it contained, the Mutation Monster begins absorbing energy and suddenly transforms into a much larger and more powerful form, leaving the two caught off guard. As Frak realizes they will need a new plan to deal with the transformed creature, the mysterious hooded Loyalist watches the battle unfold from a nearby rooftop.

Within his mysterious vision, Lloyd encounters a younger version of himself and questions whether the child is truly him. Rather than providing direct answers, Young Lloyd speaks in riddles, comparing Lloyd's search for understanding to the relationship between a tree and its seeds. Demonstrating his point, he plants a seed that instantly grows into the Tree of Life, which produces countless more seeds and trees. When Lloyd admits he still does not understand, Young Lloyd urges him to "get to the root of the mystery." Before Lloyd can ask what he is meant to find, the vision begins to collapse as he shrinks away while Young Lloyd laughs, ending the cryptic encounter.

At the Crossroads, Jenny and Barry search for supplies requested by Mr. Frohicky, taking a moment to reminisce about the familiar sights and food of their old neighborhood while expressing concern for Arin's safety. Their errand is interrupted when a Fire Monster suddenly appears and attacks the marketplace, sending civilians into a panic. After narrowly avoiding the creature's blasts, Jenny and Barry rescue two children from the attack and usher them to safety as the Fire Monster continues its rampage.

As Frak and Wyldfyre are overwhelmed by the transformed Mutation Monster, Gweeg arrives and uses his Lariat Launcher to free them from the creature's grasp. While the battle continues, Sora fears that the experimental treatment has failed to save Riyu. In his unconscious state, Riyu relives memories of his time with Arin, Sora, and Rontu, while hearing Egalt tell him that his journey is not what he believes it to be. Back at the Monastery of Spinjitzu, Mr. Frohicky checks on Rontu and discovers that her condition has continued to worsen as her heartbeat grows weaker.

In the Spectral Lands, Rontu reunites with Egalt, believing she has died and failed both Riyu and the Merged Lands. Egalt assures her that her time has not yet come and explains that Riyu's destiny is vital to the future, insisting that only she can guide her student on the path ahead. Although Rontu fears Riyu will not survive, Egalt encourages her never to lose hope before sending her spirit back. At the Monastery of Spinjitzu, Rontu suddenly regains consciousness, awakening with a gasp and immediately calling out Riyu's name.

As Sora mourns what she believes is Riyu's death, he suddenly awakens and undergoes a powerful transformation, taking to the skies and wielding two broken windmill blades as improvised weapons. Displaying newfound strength, Riyu easily overpowers the Mutation Monster, blocking its attacks before defeating it. Reunited with Sora, Riyu affectionately nuzzles her, much to her relief, while Frak and Wyldfyre celebrate his victory. The Umbrasilvans cheer the defeat of the Mutation Monster, and Gweeg praises Riyu's performance. From a nearby rooftop, the mysterious hooded Loyalist silently observes the outcome before departing.

Back at the Loyalists' hideout, the Loyalist seen at the airship was able get the information that the Chief Loyalist needed the Mutation Monster became larger. The Chief Loyalist then lowers her hood and removes her mask, revealing herself to be Dr. LaRow as she reports to a scheming Beatrix, who is now fused to her Empress Mech.

  • This episode marks Beatrix’s first appearance since "The Power Within", as she was pushed into a MergeQuake by Arin and wasn't seen since. Among its many changes, her Empress Mech still bears the hole punched through its chest by Arin's Object Spinjitzu.
  • The wooden disks seen in Lloyd's vision of the Source Dragons bear resemblance to those from the Spirit of the Temple's story in "The Temple of the Dragon Cores," which were used to represent the realms.
    • One of the disks turns red before flying off. The total count of the disks in this episode is 18, possibly hinting at another realm have once existed.
  • This episode marks the first time Jillian Michaels has voiced Lloyd in Ninjago: Dragons Rising, as she voiced Young Lloyd, a variant of Lloyd that he meets in this episode.
  • Despite appearing in Season 3 of Ninjago: Dragons Rising, this is the first episode of this show where Morro is called by his name, as his name was never said on-screen, and he was credited as "Departed Soul". Additionally, after the events in "Chaos Reigns", it is revealed that Morro’s soul has returned and continued guarding the Spectral Lands.
  • Barry and Jenny mention that they have not had Merlopian seaweed cake since their honeymoon, which implies that at some point after the events of Seabound and before the Merge, Merlopian culture was already semi-mainstream among Ninjago citizens.
  • Sora is now the third Ninja of the younger generation to perform a full Spinjitzu tornado. The first Ninja to do so was Arin in "Truth and Lies" and second Ninja to do so was Riyu in "Chaos Reigns".
    • Unlike Arin and Riyu, no one acts surprised or joyful when she achieved her full Spinjitzu tornado, with no one surprised at her development. Even the original ninja have no reaction to it.
