Plot
Plot[]
The birth of the Elemental Monsters
At the Shrine of the Seven Sources, two Source Dragon acolytes perform their ritualistic duties before being interrupted by the arrival of the Chief Loyalist, whom the former greet. The Chief Loyalist confirms their location and begins to question the workings of the shrine, to which the older acolyte explains how each pillar represents the presence of energy lent to the Merged Lands by each respective Source Dragon, but that one had died, as indicated by the fallen stone sphere representing it. Dismissive, the Chief Loyalist questions if they had observed any fluctuations or anomalies with the pillars of the shrine, before the energy streams representing the Source Dragons of Life, Focus, and Strength collectively dissipate, leaving their respective spheres to fall to the ground as the older acolyte proclaims that a majority of the Source Dragons had withdrawn their support. The spheres, including those fallen, are connected by bolts of energy that meet centered above them before striking the pool of water at the center of the shrine, turning it into an acidic liquid, and striking the ground nearby, allowing for a bubbling tar to emerge from the earth. Out of the pool, an Acid Monster emerges, and out of the tar, an Earth Monster emerges, converging on the acolytes as the Chief Loyalist walks away, speaking into a communications device about how their predictions had come to fruition and that the ninja didn't stand a chance.
Arin and Lloyd meeting Euphrasia
Elsewhere, in the Whispering Wood, Lloyd and Arin recap to Euphrasia about them awakening the Arc Dragon of Focus and guiding it to defeat Thunderfang, the Shatter Dragon of Chaos, which angered half of the Source Dragons of the Council of Sources. They had been attempting to head back to Ninjago when Lloyd's Elemental Power of Life started acting up, and the portal gate in the Monastery of the Spectral Lands had opened up to expel them in the Whispering Wood. When they ask Euphrasia how she got there as well, she reveals that she was in the Cloud Kingdom when her Elemental Power of Wind started to act haywire. She also told them that she was about to head over to Ninjago to find the ninja and ask them about it, but the portal gate in Cloud Kingdom also spat her out into the wrong place too. Soon, the trio venture out into the woods to begin investigating a way home.
Kai's powers on the fritz
Meanwhile, in the Monastery of Madness, Kai, Nya, and Jay are experiencing similar difficulties with their Elemental Powers of Fire, Water, and Lightning and their portal gate, with Kai being flung backwards by an untamed Fire blast as Jay laughs at him. After Nya attempts to use the gate again, to no avail, Jay suggests that the trio wait until sunup to orient themselves, and collects some wood from a nearby training dummy to have Kai make a campfire, the latter being flung once again from attempting to do so, much to Jay's amusement.
In the Land of Eternal Dawn, Sora, Riyu, Frak, and Wyldfyre also find themselves unable to use their portal gate. Sora points out that portal gates are typically located in monasteries, but she notices the land's monastery is no where in sight, with only possible remnants of it left behind. Before she can think further about this, Wyldfyre and Frak panic over their malfunctioning Elemental Powers. Sora tries to calm them, reminding them that their value isn't tied to their abilities, a notion that Wyldfyre and Frak dispute. Reflecting on past challenges faced without Elemental Powers, Sora highlights their confusion after being stranded in a different realm. While trying to orient, the trio notice that it's dawn across the full span of the horizon in all directions.
Back in the Monastery of Madness, Kai, Nya, and Jay sit around a campfire as Nya offers the other two wafers, which both decline despite their hunger. They speak of Jay's missing memories as he recounts leaving the City of Temples because he couldn't remember being a part of the team, a family he felt alienated from. He describes feeling regret for doing so, and Nya promises to help him make new memories, which he claims aren't enough for him. Kai assures him that they'll find a way to help him get his memories back, as tentacled creatures lurk covertly above the monastery's walls.
Zane finds his powers malfunctioning
Elsewhere, Zane and P.I.X.A.L. dance passionately on a mountainside ledge clearing, before Zane collapses, soon recognizing that his powers are malfunctioning. He declares that something is wrong, and that he has to find the other ninja.
Back in the Whispering Wood, Arin remarks on his appreciation of a peaceful adventure for once, with Lloyd's response bringing up the subject of Arin once being a pupil of Ras. They fill Euphrasia in on the context and Arin expresses his regret in following Ras, to which Lloyd apologizes for not being there for the former. Arin describes how Ras exploited his anger, anger he felt at Wu for causing what he believed to be the deaths of his parents. The trio are interrupted by the whispering of the forest, causing them to be on high alert as they follow the whispers.
Meanwhile, back in the Land of Eternal Dawn, Sora, Frak, and Wyldfyre argue over which path to take. Frak proposed they venture toward the trees, but Sora argued for the nearby sound of running water, believing it would provide refreshment, especially since they had no way to carry any. Wyldfyre interrupted, insisting that their main focus should be reaching the Monastery of Spinjitzu instead of getting sidetracked. Frak, claiming to be the most skilled ninja, tried to assert his leadership, but Sora quickly dismissed him, stating her intention to lead. Wyldfyre recalls Egalt’s belief in her potential as a leader, suggesting it’s time for her to step up. Sora, however, questioned Egalt's judgment, noting that even great masters can be wrong. As Riyu picked up a scent, the others followed him, and Frak reminded them of his extensive knowledge of the ninja, claiming he had studied them long before either of them knew about Spinjitzu. Sora shot back with a comment about Frak's past ties to Ras, wondering if that was during the time Frak was working for him. Frak countered by pointing out that Sora had also followed Ras' orders, albeit to join Arin.
The aftermath of Ras' attack
Back in Ninjago at the Monastery of Spinjitzu, Cole and members of the Finders look for the others in the monastery, as Cole recounts how he had his soul drained while attempting to save Bonzle from cryo-sleep, and affirms his hopes that the other ninja had pulled through. Emerging to the courtyard, Cole looks on in shock to see Jenny and Barry tending to the injured Rontu with healing leaves as Mr. Frohicky instructs them from a sleeping mat nearby. Reuniting with the crutched Geo, the aforementioned explains how Ras had attacked the monastery, and Mr. Frohicky elaborates, adding that Ras had went to Wu's study and had taken something.
Lloyd and Euphrasia temporarily regain their powers
Lloyd, Arin, and Euphrasia continue their chase after the whispers, before encountering a group of Acona being attacked by an Acid Monster and an Earth Monster. Jumping into the skirmish, the trio attempt to fight as Lloyd's powers fritz and he gets stuck in tar. As the other two fight on despite Euphrasia's own elemental difficulties, Lloyd observes that the monsters seemed to be made out of pure elemental energy. The battle continues as Lloyd uses Spinjitzu to free himself from the tar, slicing through the Earth Monster just to have it reform and tar him to the side of a tree trunk. Arin collects rocks to use as projectiles to no avail before the Whispering Wood begins to glow, enabling Lloyd to regain his powers, free himself, and dissipate the Elemental Monsters with the help of Euphrasia, who also regained her powers. Afterward, both lose their powers once more, to their disappointment. The ecstatic Acona beckon the trio to follow them.
Elsewhere, despite covering ground, Sora, Frak, and Wyldfyre are continuing their squabble over leadership claims, as Riyu sniffs on ahead. After Frak complains of thirst, the group suddenly encounters a small creek that they hadn't seen prior. Sora wishes for a place to sit, suddenly finding some rocks nearby that hadn't been observed prior, as Wyldfyre comments on her desire for a Wyldmelon, of which she notices a vine nearby, to her suspicion.
The Arc Dragon of Life
Back in the Whispering Wood while following the Acona, Lloyd, Arin, and Euphrasia recap the odd occurrences they had encountered thus far, before being awestruck by the emergence of the Arc Dragon of Life from the center of a village amongst the trees. Wondering if it was a Source Dragon, Lloyd eventually formally greets the dragon, who confrontationally responds by identifying Lloyd, declaring that it had known he had been in the Whispering Wood as the whispers of the forest report to it. The dragon goes on to explain how the village had given up on the return of the Green Ninja, confusing Lloyd, as he hadn't been to the Whispering Wood beforehand. The dragon uproars, lecturing Lloyd about his negligence in performing the duties that others had performed before him, affirming the village's feelings of betrayal. The dragon roars loudly as Lloyd stands confused.
The Loyalists discuss the "Weapon of Desolation"
Meanwhile in a concealed chamber, the Chief Loyalist addresses holograph projections of other Loyalists attending the meeting remotely, affirming the fulfillment of their hypotheses and overviewing the emergence of the first Elemental Monsters. The members celebrate yet question the motives of the monsters, causing the Chief Loyalist to overview their rageful nature and how they were created from the imbalance of Source Energy through the Weapon of Desolation, which they claim they can backtrace to find the location of the weapon. The Chief Loyalist assigns the Loyalists to search their assigned regions for the weapon, vowing upon their departure that "her" time will finally come again.
