Ras

Overview

“Permit me? My strength permits me.”
— Lord Ras to Mr. Frohicky, "When Doves Cry"

Lord Ras is an anthropomorphic tiger from the Wyldness and the last living descendent of Zarkar. He was trained by an unknown master and chosen for their plan to conquer all the Source Dragons to reverse the Merge.

Before the Merge, Ras came to Imperium and assisted Empress Beatrix to gain control of the kingdom by assassinating her father, becoming the leader of the Claws of Imperium afterwards. Despite being a capable commander and a highly professional warrior, he has failed to stop Arin, Sora, and Lloyd from freeing and escaping with the dragons Imperium had captured. Consequently, Ras was stripped of his title as leader of the Claws and imprisoned for his failures by Empress Beatrix, who now decided to do the job herself. During the MergeQuake Storm, Ras managed to escape his cell and, in the aftermath, recruited Jordana for her achievement in extracting energy from a Source Dragon on behalf of his master.

A year after the Liberation of Imperium, Ras traversed the Forest of Spirits with Jordana and used the Source Dragon energy to open the Shadow Dojo. He reassembled the Wolf Clan and attacked the Cloud Kingdom and the Land of Lost Things, seeking to free the Forbidden Five during the Ritual of the Blood Moon, but only succeeded in releasing Nokt after banishing Kai to the Nether-Space and unknowingly Rox's soul who took possession of Jordana's body. After he and his allies escaped, he promises his master that he would not fail him again.

Attending the Tournament of the Sources, Master Ras recruited the amnesiac Jay, deceiving the latter in the process, and Arin's old friend, Frak beforehand to teach them how to win the tournament. After both combatants lost, he casted them aside while also telling Arin about how Master Wu was responsible for the Merge before watching Nokt defeat Sora and prepared to take over the Merged Realms. However, Nokt betrayed Ras and released the rest of the Forbidden Five, until his seized powers were taken from him, forcing them to retreat to the Cloud Kingdom portal gate with the tiger dragged along when he attempted to intervene. Ras ended up in the First Land alongside Arin after the gate was destroyed, and the latter helped nurse Ras back to health with intentions of finding his parents.

For several weeks, Ras trained Arin, who took care of him while he was in a bad state. After Ras' condition got worse, Arin carried him to the Spectral Lands, where he found the Well of the Lost and used its healing elixir to save Ras from dying. Ras then took Arin to a mysterious graveyard and showed him the tombstones of his parents, explaining that he can bring them back by reversing the Merge as they could alter reality during that process. Both of them travelled to the World Forest and found out the information they needed from the Spirit of the Temple, before encountering the ninja. Ras was soon kidnapped by the Forbidden Five, who took him to the Storm Village, where Ras had his final showdown with Nokt before being saved by Arin and the Forbidden Five released Thunderfang. After the Shatter Dragon got defeated, Ras left the ninja with Arin and also Sora, who joined them, to continue their quest to reverse the Merge.

Ras took Arin and Sora to the Forge of the Forgotten, where he revealed his true intentions of sacrificing Sora to forge a Source Dragon Icon. Arin realized that Ras was manipulating him by giving little information and left with Sora to reunite with the ninja. Ras then killed an unknown mortal to forge a Source Dragon Icon and fought his way out of the Underworld. With the ninja spread throughout the Merged Lands to awaken the Arc Dragon of Focus, Ras resumed his master's plans, eventually using the portal gates to arrive at the Monastery of Spinjitzu. There, he sought out Wu's research after defeating Alfonzo Frohicky, Geo, and Rontu. After trapping Wu in a protective container, Ras tampered with the portal gates, dispersing the ninja to the most remote corners of the Merged Lands, all the while turning the portals off so the ninja couldn't use them to return. In the following days, he obtained a new Source Dragon Icon.

Appearance

Appearance[]

Lord Ras is a humanoid tiger with black fur and pink stripes all over his body. On the face, these stripes are only in the forehead area and under his red eyes, which are surrounded by gray fur that resemble eyebrows. He also has four large white fangs protruding from his mouth. His chin hair is braided into a small black braid akin to a beard and he has three white claws on his feet. On certain occasions such as during the Blood Moon, or when he is empowered by his master, all of his pink stripes change color to red along with his hands and he gains extra strength. As a result of his battle with Nokt following the return of the Forbidden Five, Ras attained a scar over the left side of his face.

As a child, Ras wore a simple purple kimono with pink trims, his name written in pink in Ninjargon, and a red suit underneath in addition to purple pants. He also didn't have his chin hair braided as it was too short.

As an adult, Ras wore the traditional attire of his tribe until he joined Imperium. It is composed of a gray kimono that left his entire right side exposed, had gold ornamental trims, and was tied with a simple tan cloth.

When Ras became part of Imperium, he began to wear sleeveless red robes with gold detailing that is tied by a red belt with golden symbols and a gold and red buckle. He wore a sleeveless gray suit under his robes and gold hexagonal plating that covered his black pants, in addition to black boots with gold detailing. He also wore golden gauntlets and a large golden armor that covers his neck and shoulders.

When Ras became leader of the Wolf Clan, he switched to a black kimono with gray trims under a dark purple sash with silver symbols and light blue edges complete with a new dark purple armor and gloves. His boots have gray and light blue detailing and his new kimono has a plating of the same blue color that bears the Wolf Clan symbol. The back of his kimono has a large light blue crescent symbol with his name written in silver in Ninjargon. When he is angry or the Blood Moon rises, his stripes and hands turn red.

During the Tournament of the Sources, Ras started wearing gray pants with black markings, including a black belt with light blue crystals and a big brown rope with the same blue crystals on the ends. He also wore crescent-shaped knee pads and two-pronged arm armor of the same blue color, in addition to shoulder pads made of dark gray spikes and joined to two light blue claw-like plating, which have chains connecting a small light gray armor plating and a dark gray circle bearing a silver version of the Wolf Clan symbol on his back. His chest was bare, revealing pink stripes and a six pack.

After defeating some of the Greenbone Warriors and Skulkin, Ras started wearing armor made from their bones. It resembled a ribcage, covering his upper torso, and has bone-like shoulder pads and two large bone-like plates covering his upper chest. He also started wearing the Greenbone Leader's helmet and a skull-like mask that covers his face. However, he was forced to destroy the armor when Geo restrained him using Fusion and later he also removed the mask and the helmet and went back to his former attire.

“Are you sure you should've told the ninja brat all of that, Lord Ras? Information can be power.”
“And information can be poison. I ommitted some of my intentions, but everything I told him was true. And that truth will poison his mind.”
“And that poison will spread to the other ninja. And drive them all apart.”
Jordana and Ras, "Truth and Lies"
Ras crying as a child

Ras crying as a child

Ras is a very manipulative and intimidating tiger humanoid. When he was a child in the Wyldness, Ras was abandoned until he met his master. During the long years they spent together, Ras learned from his master that strength was all that mattered and decided to fulfill his master's plan, even if it took years. As pointed out by Nokt and Rox, Ras is sometimes too blind to see the truth right in front of him, being blinded by the thought of his own cleverness and the perfection of his master's plan. Ras can also be quite prideful and sometimes pick the wrong battles, as he was prepared to fight Nokt (who had just accumulated all of the Elemental Powers in the Tournament of the Sources), Rox (possessing Jordana), and the entire Wolf Clan corrupted by the latter.

Ras preparing to fight his enemies instead of trying to solve their issues in a different way

Ras preparing to fight his enemies instead of trying to solve their issues in a different way

Ras' main philosophy comes from what his master had taught him, believing that strength is the most important thing in the world and it is the only way to solve any issues and how to become the greatest. As Arin points out, due to this, Ras has anger management issues, as he always tries to solve everything by fighting instead of talking. Ras doesn't care about anyone or anything except for himself, as he sees everyone only as a device for gaining his goals and after having no use for them, he abandons them.

Ras teaching Arin how to become a better ninja

Ras teaching Arin how to become a better ninja

However, Ras still showed some genuine feelings, mostly when his mysterious past is mentioned. His motivation to reverse the Merge seems to come from the loss of his people. He claims that by undoing the Merge, he can alter reality in the process and thus bring his people back, believing that his goals are noble and despite his actions being evil, he thinks it is necessary because every great warrior has to make difficult choices to save those who are dear to them. At some point, he realized that reaching his end goal would be a long, thankless journey, and he developed the belief that needing to be liked is equivalent to weakness; he would do what he felt necessary to be done regardless if he would be hated for it. Despite this, he also seemingly cared for Arin at least a little bit, as he saw himself in the young ninja, a weakling with no master, and tried to help him by teaching him how to be a ferocious warrior. While Arin was mourning the supposed deaths of his parents, Ras tried to comfort him by placing a hand on his shoulder, and later sympathized with Arin's goal of saving his parents, as he also always wanted to save his people. Ras also seemed to be genuinely smiling after Arin defeated Thunderfang, though he groaned once his pupil briefly ran off to celebrate with the ninja.

Over the course of his life, Ras was chased and hated by multiple people or creatures and that led him to believe that his strength attracts opponents who want to eliminate him.

Ras manipulating Princess Beatrix

Ras manipulating Princess Beatrix

When he first came to Imperium, he managed to win Princess Beatrix over to his side with lies and then helped her rise to power by ruthlessly murdering her father and later imprisoned the Source Dragon of Energy and started draining its energy. Ras uses intimidation on all his subordinates as a method to get what he wants. Several times, this intimidation even reached physical attacks.

Ras shouting at his underlings

Once he was imprisoned by the Empress, he tried to manipulate her again, telling her that she had no chance of winning without him. When he then managed to escape, he met Jordana, whom he chose as the next person he could manipulate. He revealed to her his true intentions, which is that he serves his true master, to whom he is truly devoted. His devotion is even so great that he considers his mission the only significant thing and sees no possibility of failure.

Ras speaking to his master

Ras speaking to his master

A year after leaving Imperium with Jordana, Ras admitted that he hated the culture of the Imperians and their ways of completely ignoring the other realms and thinking they were superior to everyone else. He then opened the Shadow Dojo and welcomed another member of his new army, Cinder. Together with Jordana, he then taught them, Cinder how to properly use Shatterspin and he encouraged Jordana to study the Theroxian scrolls and learn their magic. When they succeeded, Ras was pleased with them, but when they showed signs of displeasure or disappointment, he would become very angry and even physically hurt them.

Ras manipulating Arin

Ras manipulating Arin

Before the Tournament of the Sources, Ras manipulated Jay into thinking he was his student that fought alongside him before the Merge and that he hated the ninja and also recruited Arin's childhood friend, Frak, to become his champion in the tournament. Although being strict, Frak was amazed by his master's skills and lessons, not knowing about all the evil he had done.

Ras smiling after corrupting Arin

During the Tournament, Ras started to manipulate Arin into thinking the ninja, especially Lloyd, weren't good masters for him. He revealed to Arin his true intentions about wanting to reverse the Merge and also that it had been caused by Master Wu. When asked about this by Rox possessing Jordana, he told her that information, albeit true, could work as poison if put into a right mind, Arin's mind. This manipulation later paid off as Arin abandoned the ninja and saved Ras.

Ras punishing Frak after disobeying him

Ras punishing Frak after disobeying him

There seems to be a pattern to Ras' manipulation victims as he only chooses vulnerable, insecure, and heavily naïve people to manipulate. Beatrix, Jordana, Bleckt, Arin, Frak, and Jay all share some of these traits. He always poisons their minds with something he has to offer to fulfill their dreams but in reality, he only sees them as devices to help him achieve his goals. If these victims fail him in any way, he is not hesitant to discard them from his alliance and abandon them.

Ras using his powered-up form

Ras using his powered-up form

During Arin's training, Ras was very weak from his battle with Nokt but he was still determined to teach Arin his ways of fighting. He constantly repeated to the young ninja how strength is the most important thing and he has to focus on his anger and rage so he can truly access his real powers. Despite Arin saving Ras' life multiple times, he never thanked the ninja because of his nature.

After Sora joined their team, Ras tolerated her despite being annoyed by her but later revealed that he had only allowed her presence so he could use her a sacrifice in the Forge of the Forgotten. He tried to manipulate Arin into thinking it is what's best but the ninja opposed him. Ras then snapped, used his powered-up form, and tried to kill both of them, finally breaking his bond with Arin.

Abilities[]

“Ras is a master manipulator. He could be brainwashing Arin and Arin would have no clue.”
Frak about Ras' skills, "The Great Zane Robbery"
  • Tiger Physiology: As an anthropomorphic tiger from the Wyldness, Ras has the following abilities:
    • Night vision: Like many felines, Ras possesses exceptional night vision, enabling sight in dimly lit environments or complete darkness.[1]
    • Superhuman speed/stamina: In addition to his feline nature, Ras can move at incredibly fast speed for a long time without tiring out, being able to catch up to Arin when the ninja was driving the Explorer away from the Shadow Dojo.
    • Superhuman durability/endurance: Ras has superhuman levels of durability and endurance, managing to endure Rapton's taser and hits from dragons. In the past, he managed to take on Zeatrix's shockwave attack and leave without showing any signs of exhaustion. He was also able to take several elemental blows from Nokt after the latter had absorbed nearly every Elemental Powers. He was also undamaged after getting repeatedly attacked by several Chaos-empowered Wolf Mask Warriors. Even when critically injured from Nokt's Shatterspin, Ras managed to gather enough strength to walk to the elixir. He took a direct Shatterspin punch to the face by Drix and even survived being crushed under large rocks from the Underworld caused by Arin’s Object Spinjitzu. While fighting Rontu, he managed to take a surprised tail whip from her.
      • Ras defeating Rontu, a legendary warrior

Ras defeating Rontu, a legendary warrior

Heat Resistance: Ras has a resistance to high temperatures, allowing him to shrug off the heat from the recently created Dragon Icon bone sword. Although he is capable of feeling some pain from heat, as when Nokt broke his grip using Heat, he is still tough enough to survive the wolf's Heat blast. He also managed to survive in the high temperatures of the Wyldness.
    • Superhuman leaping: Ras can jump at incredibly high distance. He was able to leap far enough to catch up to the Explorer during the Ritual of the Blood Moon.
    • Superhuman strength: Ras has superhuman strength to overpower his opponents. Thanks to the Icon of the Source Dragon of Strength, he managed to bring down several dragons; species larger than him, knock Lloyd out of his Spinjitzu Tornado during the Blood Moon ritual, smash Nokt out of his Shatterspin, and even overpower Rontu with two strikes. Even without the Strength Icon, he is still able to demonstrate several feats such as lifting people with one arm and throwing Arin down to the ground during the Ritual of the Blood Moon. He did the same to Geo and proved to be stronger than Alfonzo, leaving both injured. During the Underworld fight, Ras managed to repel Arin's Object Spinjitzu-powered rock. Later, at the Monastery of Spinjitzu, he managed to take apart his fused bone armor, punch Geo to the ground after throwing him upward, and knock him out.
    • Superhuman agility: Ras has superhuman agility, able to do flips when fighting enemies. He also managed to dodge Rontu's tail whip, despite having both icons in his hands.
    • Superhuman reflexes: Ras has superhuman reflexes, as he managed to keep up with humans and several Elemental Masters. However, he is slower than members of the Forbidden Five like Nokt and Drix, who managed to get the drop on him.
    • Regenerative healing factor: Ras has regenerative healing factor, able to heal wounds from battles but gain scars. The limits of his healing factor are unknown but he required the healing elixir to heal from his injuries from Nokt's Shatterspin. But, he managed to recover and walk on both legs during a fight with Thunderfang immediately after Arin defeated him.
    • Quadrupedalism: Owing to his tiger-like nature, Ras can move on all four limbs like an actual animal, an ability that he uses to run faster, which makes it hard for humans to keep up.[2]
  • High intelligence: Ras has shown to have a high intelligence, being highly knowledgeable in many things the Ninja are unaware of. He even claims to know a great many things, including the truth about this universe.
    • Master Manipulator: Ras' intellect also makes him highly skilled and dangerous at manipulating people. He showed an ease in recruiting and rallying people to his cause like Beatrix, Jordana, Jay, Frak, Arin, and probably Cinder. He also knows how to use people's weaknesses, information he possesses, and lies to manipulate others as Frak, Jay, and Arin paid the price. This is especially seen in the way he manipulates Arin to help him in his cause, taking advantage of his insecurity on his skills and using the fact that Master Wu caused the Merge and the information he got from Jay about Arin's parents being in the Land of Lee to create a divide between the young Ninja and his friends (especially Sora and Lloyd) and drive him to side with him.
    • Skilled tactician: One of Ras’ greatest uses of his intelligence is that he is also a skilled tactician, often having a contingency plan in case the original one failed.
Ras training during the tournament

Ras training during the tournament

  • Skilled combatant: Ras is a fearsome combatant in martial arts who can efficiently hold against most of the ninja, easily defeat Arin on his own, and even stand up to powerful Elemental Masters like Lloyd and Nokt. He can also take on multiple opponents like Chaos-empowered Wolf warriors and corrupted Dragonian warriors, whereas powerless Elemental Masters and the Ninja had struggled to defeat them. While slightly weakened, he was able to hold against Nokt one-on-one until the wolf managed to knock him down with a Shatterspin blow. After getting his injuries healed, Ras managed to defeat two Dragonian Warriors at the World Forest and later several Skulkins and Greenbone Warriors in the Underworld. He also had the upper hand against Arin and Sora in the Underworld, the two ninja only defeating him thanks to luck. At the Monastery, he was able to easily defeat Geo without any of his dragon icons and even defeat Rontu.
    • Martial arts: Being a martial arts teacher, Ras is great at passing his martial arts to his students. He managed to teach Cinder to be a formidable opponent, improve Nokt's skills, teach Frak how to use his Quake powers and Shatterspin, and even taught Arin to do a full Spinjitzu tornado, where the ninja also managed to briefly fight Nokt using Ras' teachings.
    • Hammer Mastery: Ras primarily fights with the Icon of the Source Dragon of Strength, a Source Dragon Icon in the form of a war hammer which he's skilled in using to attack others and defend himself.
    • Swordsmanship: Having carried several blades over his life, Ras is a skilled swordsman. He used the Forge Icon together with his hammer to fight Rontu.
  • Magic: Despite being a warrior, Ras has an unspecified degree of magic, allowing him to use magic spells or curses. Using one of the Theroxian scrolls, he was able to recite the incantation to use the Forbidden Five's Theroxian magic that aided Jordana in taking control of Bonzle. He also used magic to imprison Wu in the protective container.
    • Curse inducement/Mind control: Ras can place curses on his chosen targets. He used this ability to hide information by cursing the Scroll-Worms and turning them hostile. Moreover, he can also control the Scroll-Worms and make them obey his commands.
  • Leadership: As leader of the Claws of Imperium, Ras led the Claw Hunters on dragon hunts. He even led the Wolf Clan during the invasion of the Cloud Kingdom and the Tournament of the Sources.
  • Pylikinesis: Ras has somehow gained control over the portal gates in each of the Merged Realms, whcih he used to transport the ninja into the farthest reaches of the Merged Lands and shut down the gates, rendering them inaccessible to everyone except himself.
    • Portal Negation: Ras was able to disrupt and disable the portal gates.
  • Communication with his master: Ras is able to communicate with his master in their void when they call him.
    • Levitation: When communicating with his master, Ras levitates in the air.
Ras accessing his anger form

Ras accessing his anger form

  • Anger Form: When angered, Ras can access an empowered form where he gains red stripes and greater power. This enhancement is possible due to his master's powers.
    • Attribute Enhancement: In his anger form, Ras' strength is enhanced to the point where he can easily take down multiple Wolf warriors. His durability and endurance are also enhanced, as he managed to take hits from the corrupted Wolf warriors, including Nokt's stolen Elemental Powers, and it took a Shatterspin blow to knock him out. He also managed to win a fight against a squad of Greenbone Warriors and Skulkin in this state, even using their bones to create armor as proof of his victory.
  • Expert Pilot/Driver: Ras is an expert pilot and driver.
  • Expert Biker: Ras is also an expert biker.
  • Vast resources: Ras has many contingencies and resources placed across the Merged Lands in case of need, such as the Super Storm Jet in the First Land and possibly the Explorer in the Wyldness.
  • Expert Craftsman/Armorer: Ras is an expert in flawlessly crafting items, seeing that he was able to construct armor from the bones of Greenbone Warriors and Re-Awakened.

Weapons[]

  • Imperium Sword (formerly): During his time in Imperium, Ras used an Imperium Sword to hunt dragons.
  • Machete (briefly): Ras owned a machete which he used to cut through the jungle to get to the Shadow Dojo.
  • Mallet and Gong of Shattering (formerly): Ras used the Mallet and Gong of Shattering to grant supernatural abilities and combat skills. When he strikes the gong with the mallet, the powers are bestowed upon those wearing a Wolf Mask. Ras must strike the gong repeatedly every few seconds to keep extending the usage of the abilities.
  • Control implant (formerly): Ras had small chips that he planned to attach to the Forbidden Five and every time either of them disobeys him, he can trigger the device's remote to electrocute any member by doing so.
  • Returning Blade (formerly): Ras had a Prismatic Blade he received as an old battle trophy. He kept the blade with him until he gave it to Arin to help him explore the Spectral Lands for the healing elixir.
Weaknesses

Weaknesses[]

  • Arrogance - As Nokt and Rox pointed out, Ras can sometimes be too blind to see the truth right in front of him, being blinded by the thought of his own cleverness and the perfection of his master's plan, as he didn't think of Sora using her Technology to destroy Nokt's control collar or noticed Jordana being controlled by Rox.
  • Temper - As pointed out by Arin, Ras has serious anger issues. This can cause him to slip, as Frak begun to see his true nature and he recklessly confronted people like Nokt in the Monastery of Gates, where he attempted to make him pay for his betrayal.
  • Large/Extreme Force - While Ras is physically stronger than a regular human, his immense strength is ineffective against larger creatures like dragons due to being smaller than them, making it impossible to defeat them without his icons. Also, extreme forces like Spinjitzu can break his powerful hold, which Arin exploited in the Underworld.
  • Shatterspin - Despite his superhuman levels of strength and durability, even his healing factor, Shatterspin is still capable of overpowering Ras as demonstrated when Nokt managed to defeat him twice. Even his anger-empowered form didn't prevent him from being seriously injured and knocked unconscious by Nokt's Shatterspin at the Monastery of Gates. The wounds were also so severe that he needed the healing elixir from the Well of the Lost in the Spectral Lands. While Drix didn't seriously injure Ras, the insect was still able to send the tiger flying back with a single Shatterspin-empowered punch during a fight at the World Trees.

UNRIVALLED

You need more proof that Ras is one of the most powerful villains around? Well, here it is:

PURE POWER!

Ras has no Elemental Powers, can't do Spinjitzu or any other fancy stuff. What does he have is pure muscle power! So much that even the strongest Elemental Masters go weak at the knees.

MEAN MOB!

But that alone does not make him the most powerful villain of all time. Because only those who gather the right people around them are truly powerful. And Ras can do that like no other!

ALL AGAINST ONE!

Only when everyone turns against him, like at the end of the Tournament of the Sources, does Ras have to admit the defeat. There, the Wolf Masks suddenly change sides and get massive energy claws on their backs.[7]

Villain of the Month!

There's no question about it - Lord Ras is one of the top five worst supervillains of all time! Few have kept the ninja in check for as long as he has. But to this day, his true plan remains a mystery. Does he want to overthrow the Source Dragons? Take over the world? What do you think?[8]

Etymology

Etymology[]

Ras means "head" in Amharic and it is a royal title in Ethiopian Semitic languages being similar to "duke" or "prince."

Behind the scenes

Behind the scenes[]

  • According to concept art, Ras was originally supposed to be a big fig like Dogshank and Killow but this was changed in the process.
    • Additionally, his original head design was based on 70200 CHI Laval[9] and his whole body was similar to Hulk but in gold.
    • On the other concept art, he is more similar to real life tigers based on his orange color, black stripes, and his head design. His attire was based on ancient Greece, Persia, and the Mongol Khanate as was the rest of Imperium in early stages of development.[10]
  • Similarly to the Crystal King's minifigure, Ras' teeth aren't painted in his minifigure form.
  • Based on the box art of 71813 Wolf Mask Shadow Dojo, Ras' Wolf Clan outfit was supposed to be different in some stages of development. The biggest changes are that his shoulders armor was the Imperium armor recolored in purple, his belt was originally made of rope, there was a word "blood" written on his suit in Ninjargon, and he had arm printing similar to his other minifigures.[11]
  • By the second half of Season 1, Ras' voice has drastically changed, being higher and softer.
    • Although there is no in-universe reason for the change, it was likely to provide some form of accommodation for his voice actor Brian Drummond, as doing a voice so deep and low can be damaging to one's throat.
Trivia

Trivia[]

  • He is the fourth character in the Ninjago franchise to have the title of Lord. The first three were Garmadon, Belgrave, and Mogra.
    • However, he is the second Lord to appear in the show. Belgrave is only mentioned in Seabound and Mogra only appears in the comic series Garmadon.
  • He is one of the six main antagonists (or group of main antagonists) to have appeared before the installment where they are the main antagonist, the others being Morro, Yang, Krux, Ronin, and the Forbidden Five.
  • He is one of the nine main antagonists (or group of main antagonists) to be from another realm, the others being the Preeminent, Nadakhan, Iron Baron, the Omega, Vex, Beatrix, the Forbidden Five, and Thunderfang.
  • He is the only villain of the franchise to appear in five consecutive waves of sets (June 2023, January 2024, March 2024, June 2024 and January 2025) and with Rapton he is the only villain of Dragons Rising to appear in every season so far.
  • Ras shares many similarities with Vex, another antagonist from the franchise:
    • Both were outsiders who sought an alliance with a ruling figure, Grimfax for Vex and Levo for Ras, but were rejected.
    • Both became a second-in-command to a powerful "master" who helped them dispose of the original rulers who rejected them, Zane for Vex and Beatrix for Ras, and then were appointed as tyrants who gained control of an entire nation, the Never-Realm for Zane and the City of Imperium for Beatrix.
      • Unlike Vex, Ras had an actual master that he genuinely served and did not exhibit the same level of deceit towards Beatrix as Vex did towards Zane, primarily because he did not resort to such manipulation.
      • Unlike Vex, who continuously deceived Zane by manipulating him into targeting those labeled as traitors and aggressors, Ras only misled Beatrix into helping him locate the Source Dragons for his master, pretending that it was for Imperium.
    • Both were ultimately stripped of their ill-gained position by the very individuals who elevated them in the first place.
    • Both Ras and Vex manipulated an amnesiac ninja into fighting for them, Zane for Vex and Jay for Ras.
  • For an unknown reason, Ras' eyes are orange in the sets but sometimes red in the show. However, they are more prominently the latter color when cast under a shadow.
  • It is possible that Lord Ras' name is a reference to the four main characters of Ninjago: Dragons Rising. Just as Lloyd Garmadon's name is a pun on "Lord Garmadon", the inverse may be true with Ras' title referring to Lloyd. The first letters of Riyu, Arin and Sora's names spell out "RAS".
  • When asked if Ras cleans himself by licking his paw, Chris "Doc" Wyatt replied with "LOL. Probably." [12]
  • Before he was revealed to be from the Wyldness, Chris "Doc" Wyatt joked about the possibility that Ras is from the world of Fabuland, another LEGO theme.[13]
  • In Chima, which is a place in Ras' original realm the Wyldness, there is a tribe of tigers who lived on the top of Mount Cavora. However, these tigers are different from Ras and his tribe, as they are orange with black stripes, similar to real life tigers instead of being black. It is unknown if there is any connection between those two tribes as except for few members who served the Phoenix Tribe, as there is no information about the tribe in Legends of Chima.
    • One of the tigers from Chima, Tormak, stole a Phoenix artifact which turned his fur black, being similar to the Wyldness tigers for a while.
  • When asked why Ras has black fur and pink stripes, Chris "Doc" Wyatt replied, "Interesting that you're asking this. Can a tiger change its stripes? If so, what would cause that?".[14]
    • In "The Final Game," it was shown that within the Tiger Tribe, all tigers possess black fur as a natural trait. However, what sets each tiger apart are the colors of their stripes, with Ras sporting pink stripes, in contrast to one of his ancestors, Zarkar, who had blue-gray stripes. Furthermore, Ras can change the color of his stripes to red when extremely enraged, as shown in "The Final Game" and "Casket of Bones") or during the Blood Moon (as shown in "Fugitives From Madness").
  • Ras has several animal traits based on real life tigers.
    • He sometimes growls and snarls between sentences when talking.
    • He has natural night vision, as explained by Jordana in "The Blood Moon."
    • He can run very fast, even managing to overtake a moving vehicle. Additionally, he can jump very high like real tigers—both of these traits can be seen in "The Forest of Spirits."
    • When fighting or running, he occasionally uses all four limbs like real animals, such as when fighting Lloyd in "Rising Ninja."
  • When asked how long ago Ras was found in the Forest of Spirits by his master, Chris "Doc" Wyatt replied that he is not allowed to answer that question.[15]
  • Despite never being seen using it, it was hinted in "They Gather for the Feast" that Ras owns a cell phone or some kind of similar device, as he sent an alert to Frak to remind him of his training.
    • Additionally, Frak's text tone consists of a first few notes from Ras' theme, hinting he is Frak's master.[16]
  • Catnip can have a effect on Ras's state of mind.[17]
  • According to Chris "Doc" Wyatt, Ras knows a lot about the ninja, including Jay and Nya's relationship, because of the fact that the ninja are well-known figures.[18] This also includes Ras knowing Lloyd's last name.[19] Ras also knows about the First Spinjitzu Master and that he created Ninjago and some other realms.[20]
  • When asked if Ras has an elemental power, Chris "Doc" Wyatt responded "Not that we've seen..."[21]
  • It will be revealed soon if Ras is an orphan.[22]
    • In Season 3 Part 1, Ras revealed that no one has saved his world and that he could bring back his people by reversing the Merge, implying this although not truly confirming.
  • He seems to have an affinity for collecting trophies, seeing as he kept the Returning Blade as one for years and would later turn the remains of his skeletal enemies from the Underworld into armor, as well as steal the Greenbone Leader's helmet.
  • When asked how Ras is aware of Master Wu being responsible for causing the Merge, Chris "Doc" Wyatt answered that his master told him.[23]
  • Ras' stripes were able to turn red prior to the Blood Moon.[24]
